I stumbled on Magus' old Jinko story (the jungle one from way back) the other day, and was reminded how some anons like their MGs a bit darker. One order soldier who tried to escape was apparently savaged in such a way that it was a surprise he was still alive.

I agree about spelling and grammar.
Showing instead of telling can be a bit of a trap. You really should do a bit of both, and do the showing in both the dialogue and in the expressions/actions a character does.
For example, there are only so many expressions you can do to convey a character is shocked. I don't want to read how a character's eyes went wide 20x in a story.
Also, I'm not psychic. Might be controversial, but if I don't know what you are trying to show with a character, then just tell me.

Third red flag I didn't mention is spending ages describing a character's appearance. I know what a jinko looks like, and I'd rather you spread out what makes your jinko unique over the course of the story.
