Been reading Ayakashi Gohan recently
I knew it was pretty highly rated going in but I didn't really expect to enjoy it as much as I have been. The production values are amazing, great art, soundtrack and voice acting. I haven't finished a route yet but people who dislike very sweet, only happyendings-type stories probably won't like it much but I'd still say don't knock it out of your books just yet. I'm not a big fan of those kinds of saccharine stories either but I'm really digging it. Didn't realise I needed a nice comfy pickmeup and this game fits the bill perfectly
I like how Rin is both voiced and has a personality of her own. I started with the human chapters first and was really pleasantly surprised by her character development and how natural it felt. There is also a nice ensemble cast and not too much romance pigeonholing until you get into one of the boy's route proper, which I enjoy. I know some anons probably like romance from the getgo but it can feel pretty forced and unnatural sometimes to me and I prefer long common routes with a focus on friendship
I cried/teared up during Sagiri and Kei chapters. Yes I'm a huge sap, I know

Also, I'm still planning to play Alice=alice too but after Bad medicine and Kamisama no hitsugi I wasn't sure if I wanted to play something else with Rejet-like LIs lol. Has anyone else started on that yet?
I think I saw some anons posting about Cage and Kuni no Alice or something last thread but don't think I saw any alice=alice

>I'm afraid it's one of those games where the sex scenes are rare and sometimes seem almost like an afterthought
I was just about to say that it's no big deal, I just need to adjust my expectations, but then Nitta's other route kicked off with a whole string of rape scenes with almost no cooldown between them lmao.
You know, no wonder you couldn't remember if this was the good or the bad route. I can't tell either. The bad, probably. Maybe. Compared to I SCREAM's spoonfed storytelling I CRYING was barely coherent so I'm not sure, there's an argument to be made for both. I'm going to need the minor endings to make sense of this. I CONFUSED
Cool route though. Nitta has a gigahuge bathtub, Segawa was 11/10 he absolutely stole the show, Teppei finally had sex that was only just mostly but not entirely unpleasant, and Nitta casually murdering the fuck out of Gondou without saying a single word really made me glad I played the routes in this order. What the fuck was that, Nitta? What was all the drama for then, Nitta?

Anyway I CRYING > I SCREAM, but I SCREAM had the better sex scene.

>Maki's route might be the lewdest
Looking forward to it!

>>45221972
Yeah I also played them in that order and I'm extremely glad for it. Nitta disposing of him like he's trash just hits different with that context, also makes you remember it could have just easily been Teppei in his stead.
Segawa is absolutely my favorite secondary character I think (not like there's a lot of competition.)

Maki's route is great but I'm not sure I'd recommend it as the first route in Close, the reason for that is that due to Maki carrying/covering for Teppei it turns the first half into a light romcom, almost a parody of the usual grim shit. Pic related. The finales are worth the wait though.
Ishimatsu's route is more orthodox, and IMO has the most satisfying kino endings in Cage no matter what you pick.

Moving on virche
>Ceres
Is the most depressing heroine I've ever come upon in an otome to this day. She is like sweet pools Youji but unlike Youji she is into lycoris flowers and not meat. Not bad so far but she is gloomy as fuck. Hobbies do include cleaning and cooking but nobody let's her do them because they see her as plague chan, everyone that becomes close to her suffers a horrible death like vomiting blood or catching fire. She is cute though and can't help but feel sorry for her.
LIs
>Mathis
The shota bocchan. I'll post more as I play his route. He looks cute.
>Yves
HE A CUTE. Everyone loves him and want to dick him regardless of their gender. Especially his colleague/friend. Cheerful and will do everything to help out others.
>Oniichan
Good boy too. Protective type
>Scien
Slut
>Luca
I thought he was a princess at first.
>Ankou
Sex
I can't tell much about the LIs yet. But it's not a bad game so far desu.
Another thing that I find ironically funny is the happy looney music playing when tragic things happen like heroine remembering children burning to death while they scream, thinking of ways of killing herself, or a dude happily announcing that his gf died and if they can help him out carry her corpse like it's a bag of vegetables lmao. Translation is pretty good.

I would totally pirate, fuck and become the little sister to a Majima. Great seeing back from you, Majimasis. Thank you as always, be well and safe as well! I will try to post more things I made when I get the chance! I genuinely like coming here because of your posts. Pirate Majima/Shiba and Mermaid Yuriko sounds fun. Another idea for making something with Majima haha

>Chigiri
Yes! Tbh I was a little put off by Choudoku's art style at the first but I really grew to love it over time. Amano Chigiri's work in the FD is just so good and so is in the artbooks.
Going back to being NEET sounds great hypothetically but idk, those times when I was one were pretty miserable... Good luck on making something for Majima! Here's hoping Aromarie milks Choudoku for more mech! I need.

>Maruki
I rather not think negatively if I could help it for sure, yeah. There were video games in history that were in their development cycle for years upon years that did eventually release so I'm not gonna pretend it's dead until there's real proof. I remember everyone used to meme Duke Nukem Forever was forever unreleased but look what happened kek

>Gayoushi
Gayoushi really is based. It's Majima's game and stuff like hers that truly makes me happy I went through the trouble to get better at JP. I think out of everything we've discussed with recs, I recommend the Majo duology + the side stories the most to you. You'll love it! The first game didn't feel too long and probably had one of the most cathartic true endings I've read ever in otome.
Still reading the second game at snail pace but it's already giving me kami vibes with the sexy jiji mc. A shame the games aren't voiced but for the royalty free music Gayoushi does chooses, it's pure kino. This fucking track is permanently burned into my mind.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VRZtnQcFEKw&pp=ygUVa2V2aW4gbWFjbGVvZCB1bmxpZ2h0
She only does manga now (seems to be more profitable...) but I have small hope that maybe one she'll change her mind if more people support her stuff!

>Eroge/Galge
Yeah, it's pretty hopeless to be dependent on R18 joseimuke games in general at this point IMO. Though, I think even for eroge/galge, especially plot heavy ones, it's on the uncertain side sadly. Despite this, there are still many great, extremely varied ones that already exist. For that reason, you definitely should get into them more, I say. Personally played nothing but galge before BL/otome became a thing here so I'm a little biased but there are lots of different things to appreciate as long as you're open minded!

>JP
Thank you for the encouragement sis. Perhaps in another year or so. We'll get there for sure as long as we keep on reading constantly! I can recognize a lot without lookups but there are still things that trip me up, especially with the readings. sakura-paris.org is really good for reliably writing out vocabulary/kanji and providing different J-J dictionary options + external links to the usual online ones. I also found kanji.club extremely useful for looking up kanji from its components if Sakura Paris doesn't recognize my handwriting.

>censorship/incest
Pretty much natural to see PC games get toned down whenever they get ported to console, huh? I remember in the non-R18 Choudoku port, they watered down the incest and also remove some potential triggering content for both the original text and TL. Kyouko's ghost story about a deaf blind girl who was forced to become a prostitute was completely removed. Minor I guess but it's also kinda stupid since it does refers to it later in the story. it's very ??? wtf is that vague shit
Oh yeah! I remember asking about Yosuga no Sora here a while back. I want to play it for the qt white haired twins. Big time sucker for white hair girls.

>KnS
Tomoyuki truly is the cutest, gotta be that haircut and patheticness kek. Really like the Innocent Grey artist in general.
Yuriko's personality taking huge turns in certain routes/endings and her borderline obsession with Majima reminded me a bit of KnS2's main villain so yeah kek
I always headcanoned Yuriko being yandere in another time/placesince her dad is basically one himself and of course, she has Majima's cursed manlet goblin blood as well

>Rejet
There are many games I still haven't played from them desu. I really enjoyed their heavy ones like BWS so I'm totally looking forward to reading Moshikami one day. Hype for Masato big bro and all his depravity. Thank you sis, hopefully I'll be able to set up my vita and finally say hello kek. Totally understandable with dropping games after your favorites. >Mashou Megane
I was a little surprised how Karen wasn't too popular with some of the JP reviews I read. They just didn't like how she was as a protagonist. Too unconventional, I guess. When I think about it about more, Gayoushi's protagonists are kinda like Karen in a way. Yaneko in Majo also gets a dual persona with a magic item. Very self depreciating and clumsy in reality but has a boisterous personality with her ideal self
Besides all the depravity and all, I liked Cidre's good end where he was ultimately very supportive to Karen and encouraged her to be herself instead of trying hiding behind a persona. Btw thanks for the heads up, sis. I was planning to read Doutei's route next but I think I'll go forward with Peach instead once I get back to reading it again

>Paradise
For sure, really think consuming everything in JP for this sort of medium is the best at this point 100%. Some weebshit localizations can be good but those are very far in between.
But yeah, I have a strong feeling I'll hate Matsuda tormenting the qt protag but also love him at the same time kek, especially when he shows off his broken side. It's always those toxic two faced bastards who eventually get shit coming back at them. That feeling is just the best, really. Thanks again, sis!

>Voltage
I'm sure they'll eventually port more of their games like Rose in the Embers. I think I read that one years ago at work. Tho I can't remember much of it besides the art being kinda better than the usual ones at that time lmao

NTA but on majo and mashou megane, I found it interesting that Yaneko’s alter ego is completely de-sexualised when usually the case with this kind of story in R18 (ie in Mashou Megane) the alter ego is a sex crazed maniac or at least more assertive about it. Oddoseia is, by the reactions of the other characters, unappealing to men (or at least unappealing to Zaijouin) and uninterested in romance. I guess it makes sense after what Yaneko’s been through that she’d just not want to deal with any of that kind of thing at all.
It’s also interesting that Oddoseia’s personality change seems to be a byproduct of her change in appearance and isn’t exactly a split personality. Particularly in the second part there are a few characters with hang ups about their appearance (or who are notably lacking concern in it) in various ways so it’s sort of a running theme.

I'm AA2 I fucked the hell out of Hypmics Doppo kek. The AA2 community is so dedicated. Narita Ken voices some personas too. And go for it sis I believe you!

>chigiri
She does make art for some situation cds from what I've seen on DLsite. And the LIs look very similar to choudoku ones. She loves her Fujitas, Shibas and ofc gremlinos designs so much. Based. Same sis Yuriko did look a bit weird in some cgs or the LIs mouths but yeah they do grow on you. In r17 version she did fix their expressions but desu I'd like goblino even in a stickman drawn version hahaha. Tysm sis, I'll either make him or commission the aliexpress Chinese chads haha. Funnily enough I see chou no doku tapestries on aliexpress from time to time! Good luck on you too sis!

>Maruki
Same and they did get a lot from the fanbooks crowd funds + the artbooks sold out and also the English version so I don't think that funds are their problem. Aromarie doesn't seem to have the best marketing too since they do announce things 1 month before at best kek. Usually they do on the same week lmao. I hope that they will bless us with the new goblino and his yandere muppet show! If kanja S and luckydog1 released there is still hope for it!!

>Gayoushi
You really got me interested into it from your review and your analysis here along with the other anons! I'll definitely try it out the plot and everything do sound ultra kino and I bet they will be, i trust your taste sis, I'll definitely check it out soon thank you a lot! And kudos to her since I do remember that majo 2 was vaporware! It's number one in my doujin link along with the shitoku game! I love unhinged stuff so much. Not to mention the ost, I just listened it i can already tell this game's going to be from my favorite. Kino osts do make up for the unvoiced LIs in doujins. Hope she does come back for more games she seems to be really talented! I hope dlsite localizes her games too so she can get more western fans too! Dlsite might be banned for many yuropfags though, because of their shitty laws.

>r18
I really like liarsoft and littlewitch ones! They have these otomeish vibes and the LIs are cute not self-insert eyeless uncutes. Sayooshi one was robbed he needed a sprite he looks like goblino the same sexo hairstyle! Based sis, it's really important to appreciate different genres! There are some really good ones that can appeal to everyone! Maruki did start as a galge one too. I've seen that artists who write for different types of genres tend to be top-tier and the games kamige.

>JP
Thank you so much for your useful tips sis! I had to stop Japanese in order to take my degree since my course was difficult to pass and no time for nip so tl;dr covid hit and I re-started a few months ago and reading vns has got me back in track sooner than expected! I was using itazuraneko before it died and there are many kind anons on /torrents/ language threads who have helped me and got me some nip books that I needed but were too pricey to ship here, they often seed links too! Kanji tree is a great app too teaches you the right way to write the kanji! I'll search the ones you told me too best luck to you too sis thank you again! Kek you are so right sis haven't thought about it Yuriko does have her moms Alabama genes but also her yandere nutcase dads genes as well kek. We need a spin off with her going to China to find goblino and turning everything upside down.

>censorship
I do remember the censorship! And that story was so important for shibas and goblinos bad endings! And kyoukos in a way! But besides that yes they did butcher goblinos parts which really didn't make sense because they didn't remove the incest or anything so???. They even removed lines like Shiba devouring Yurikos lips lmao. But I did like the extra stories they were funny or their POVs. Other than that r18 game all the way!!
I really like that artist too! And the littlewitch one. Adorable boys.

>rejet
Bws was so good! Tragic, aesthetic and had the kino schizo moments. From their best games. Go for it sis! I don't know how you'll take it but rejet does tend to make really unhinged things in both a tragic and memeish way. Masanii is a very special case. 1/2

Sis the heart pussy scene lives rent free hahaha. That was one of the most unhinged scenes I've even come upon in an otome. Well the other ones I've come upon are also from pil games kek. Douteis bad end was fun too. Peaches was not my thing and also his route was pretty butchered so they didn't do his bad one justice too. I loved Cidres best end too! He was cute and it was pretty much the best ending. Him moaning more in his bad end was ultra kek too. Still bitter that oujisama didn't get a route. He was very based. Not surprised nips didn't like Karen. Give them a heroine with voice acting a formed personality and hobbies other than cooking and they go apeshit. More reasons to play gayoushis games, the heroines are after all 60% of the game.

>paradise
As you said sis Matsuda is the type of LI that makes you both hate him and love him at the same time. He is super unhinged and his DV fetish is despicable but he is very pathetic. Also agreed with this anon! The fds are a must. Made me go from 7-8 to 10 with paradise! The game is Azuma though he is great without him the game would be nothing. I'm glad his seiyuu is getting the recognition he deserves now and taking advantage of his moaning talent.

I'm clueless about commercial releases, but I actually think about this a lot about dlsite stuff. Not to mention, BL/homo voice works also saw a similar increase in releases. It just shows how much the R18 market for women has shifted to audio works rather than pc games. Probably helps that it's infinitely cheaper to produce and because everyone owns a smartphone and therefore can readily access them.

I remember going through all the samples of newer releases every once in a while to buy a few I liked, but that's nearly impossible to do now unless I spend a crazy amount of time on it. The CD boom probably is connected to the demise of R18 otome.
First of all, PC gaming is suffering (especially for non-gamer demographics), many people don't even have a PC/laptop, and it's much harder to get your R18 game distributed/publicized on mobile or console. So games that get made will be mostly SFW.
But beyond that, why play a R18 VN in the first place when you could listen to a R18 CD? Especially for the otome genre, what are you missing out on? The faceless voiceless protagonist? The idiot's inner monologues? Is it worth enduring 5 hours of shitty generic linear plot just to get a couple of H scenes? CDs give you all of the sexy payoff with none of the tedium.
Inversely, from the producer's viewpoint, why make a VN instead of a CD? You bother learning to code (or use renpy or whatever) and you have to draw a bunch of backgrounds and sprites and browse through generic free music for your BGM and you need to write a ton of boring descriptions and so on, even after you're done you need to deal with compatibility issues and tech support. Or if you don't do all that yourself you need people to help you with it of course.
Meanwhile for CDs you only need to write some steamy dialogue (just the guys of course), do the voice recording and commission a cover/character pic and that's about it. All of which you needed to do for the VN as well anyway. If you want to do routes for several guys you can just make a CD series or even just separate tracks.

Don't get me wrong, I love R18 VNs like everyone here, but it's obvious why CDs are winning.
What I really mourn for is that you get less and less professional VAs doing R18, and too many CDs use third-rate ero-only VAs or total amateurs now.

>> No.45245344

>>45245144
I don't know. Can't say I'm overly familiar with drama CDs but I like reading VNs for the sake of reading and I'm a more visual person than anything else. People shit on the protagonists in BL/otome a lot but I rather have something there than nothing at all. Some writing styles like Maruki's and a few others are quite nice and you don't quite get that with just VA work in CDs.
I'm probably the minority nowadays but I don't think the medium can ever be replaced for me. R18 otome's state is sad naturally but there's a lot more to be flexible with if you already know some JP as mentioned here before.

Autism incoming. This conversation made me look at trends for R18 otome. With commercial game releases, I kind of expected a slow drop off in numbers over the years, but looking at it, that isn't really the case. The first R18 otome game was Hoshi no Oujo in 2003, and for the next two years there wasn't much else, then in 2006 you suddenly get 12 games in one year. But this peak is over before it started as in 2007 there are now only 6 releases. This becomes the standard and you get 3-6 games a year, every year, until 2019 when it stops and all of a sudden there's nothing more getting made.
There are the Dusk games after this which sometimes get confused for commercial, but they're actually doujin works. And I'm not sure Dusk is planning on making more anyway. Trends in numbers for doujin R18 games are harder to track since I assume there's gonna be older games that are lost to time and and 3 minute kusoge that technically count padding out numbers in recent years.
2018 is about when audio works were really taking off. But I don't think it's a direct cause, more like a result of the same trends.
Another thing that barely existed before that does now is doujin TL manga. I am sure that when I visited garumani back in 2018 or so most of the manga were fanfic doujins or all ages. This is an even more recent trend, it only started taking off in the 2020s.
I honestly never find myself reading them that much. Having grown up reading doujins on pirate sites buying them feels alien to me, and exhentai doesn't have a tag for joseimuke or otome that I know of (it really should at this point) so I just don't come across them even if they are uploaded. But I guess they do quite well, better than the audios from what I can tell.
I'm really not sure what could be done to repopularise R18 otome games. Just got to hope there's people left in the world with enough resources and enthusiasm in what they want to make to be unconcerned with sales.

Majima is the most wonderful girl. Fun stuff as always, sis. I kneel, I'm a dumbass when it comes to animation edits

>AA2/Sims
Ah, the Hypmic cards! Doppo's card maker is one of my favorites. Potato's stuff is great, really talented modder. I'm fond of those who go above and beyond for their characters, particularly for the guys. When I think about it more, AA2 is pretty much the only 3D eroge that even allows to mod decent male content w/ VA work included. If only Illusion (now ILLsoft what a great name change) stopped making shovelware. Iirc they do in fact have yumes working with them funny enough. But yeah, the AA2 community does indeed have a lot of dedication for such an old game. Though, I think nowadays most modders have moved on or preferred to keep their distance. Unfortunately for me, I accidentally deleted a lot of my content including some years old stuff while doing a clean up recently. Gotta rebuild things anyway. Thanks for the kind words though!
And same, I used to also play the shit out of the Sims 2 as well. Best game in the series. If only Sims 3 wasn't a wreck with its performance. Loved the open world in that.

>Chigiri
I think I saw those! I'm guessing freelance work for CDs is what she does nowadays?
desu I wasn't too fond of Chigiri's eyes and how Yuriko was drawn at first either, almost felt she was different people from seeing one screenshot to another from the main game. Though, what sets Choudoku apart and convinced me to really love Chigiri's work was the FD and seeing more of Majima ofc. Love how she draws the hair and does her coloring. The protagonist is especially cute in the cheongsam Majima has good taste Made me appreciate the huge variety of hairstyles and outfits overall at the end. There aren't many otome that has that, really. Of course seeing more of Majima's facial expressions made my heart go doki doki. Thought his smile was endearing while his devilish smirks were even better. The cutest ones have the best expressions. Don't think I can hang a tapestry at my place but I want at least a small portrait of him for my shrine one day haha

>Maruki
Yeah, I recall the Steam version of Choudoku was announced at very short notice and so was the English TL. I figured it's not within their style to set a date long term and release things several months or years after nowadays I guess. I feel like that's good in a way because companies for this medium are notorious for constantly delaying things out of nowhere. It is what it is now regardless, though.

>Gayoushi
Go for it! Admittedly Majo's beginning is slow moving where it builds upon heavily on SoL but trust me, it's worth every second and hits harder because of it. Plenty of people have already played it including some from the untranslated eroge thread and have loved it. It's one massive emotional rollercoaster despite the game's length. Besides the music track I've sent earlier, this one is yet another which gave me chills.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXT2Ayifqpw
Just thought it was the perfect BGM to convey the finale.

>eroge/galge
Liarsoft and Littlewitch both have great art styles! Other really good artists who can also draw nice males in eroge are Carnelian and Yamamoto Kazue. Later was involved with illustrating My Fair Angel, which is apparently a lewd Princess Maker-like game with incest - ikemen protagonist is technically the dad of the girl he's most involved with in H scenes. I haven't played it yet but I heard plenty of good things about it from those who did here in /jp/
But yeah, some of the most talented writers in the medium are indeed those who have experience writing other genres for sure. Really feel those are more experimental compared to the usual corporate ones in the industry (ex. Otomate).

>JP
Understandable. I dropped learning Japanese several times myself in the past because of university and other factors. As much as some meme "you need to be really young to learn JP", I feel like it was way better now to take in things after I was finally done with school and started a more healthy lifestyle. Also easier to be consistent and admit any mistakes instead of pretending nothing is wrong. No way to really learn unless you practice good consciousness at some level imo. I haven't tried or heard about Kanji Tree but seems like a useful app! Tbh I brute force ~1800 kanjis into my head which was ultimately really useful for learning vocabulary intuitively. Hard to say it's for everyone but it worked for me
Also spin off with Yuriko after Kyouko's ending would be so kino. Headcanon her finally snapping and coordinating a series of "mystery" Chinese deaths in Majima's route main bad end after becoming a crimelord and getting cucked way too much just like KnS2's villain

>Censorship
For sure, it's ultimately all "small" changes but does in reality generate some weird plotholes and uneven writing. I'm a dumb autistic coomer but I also didn't like how they removed that small part about Majima feeling (You) up through your dress in the Shanghai Doll ending either.
Though, what I really did enjoyed was the new 3P Mizuhito/Hideo ending. It wasn't R18, sure but Hideo's VA work + Mizuhito messing with him was pretty damn good for what it is compared to Hideo just screeching while tied up and gagged imo Omake scenes were also good! Can't choose which one I liked more: Majima's scenario with him trying to choose Yuriko's birthday present or the one where all the characters changed bodies haha

>Rejet
I'm all about the unhinged shit in any VN so I have a strong feeling I will be intrigued at least if not. It will be a experience for sure. Thanks sis.

>Mashou Megane
Those reviews weren't extremely out of nowhere in reality, yeah. Kinda just thought they probably would have empathized with Karen a bit more. Seems like "rooting for the underdog" is not very popular for people into a medium like this.
Oh, and Cidre was really good for sure. Sometimes I forget commerical R18 otome can be like that. I'm not into Peach at all but I figured it's better to get that route out of the way firsts. Shame the game never got a FD.

>Paradise
I like how Azuma is a really relatable one beneath all his casualness. The faces he makes are just the cutest.
Glad Furukawa is getting the recognition he deserves too. Needs to do more of that deep voice of his.

>Voltage
I was really happy to hear that they ported Irresistible Mistakes and made it non-freemium. Really enjoyed that one for Toma in particular. Funny tsundere, I'm a sucker for banter. It was a good game for work back then.
I think it's interesting how Voltage is one of the few companies who is actively interested in localizing games for the West, while at the same time, releases the same stuff in JP. They also done their own line of OELVNs even. Hoping they'll continue their current business model.

About Virche. Tbh as much as I want to, I don't think I'll be able to play Virche for a while since it is a very long, plot heavy game. Was only curious if the Agent script worked or not since that game is in my backlog. Hope people have fun and give more of their opinions about the game.

>>45233338
Recurrent themes about about physical appearance seems to be pretty consistent with agony/禁飼育 works, I feel. Iirc I recall reading one JP review of the first Majo game where they commented Oddoseia gave them more of a "grown up Yaneko" impression rather than a true separate identity. It's interesting to know that the only thing Zaijouin seemingly found attractive in Oddoseia were her eyes in the first game, which was something Yaneko also had. I figured with everything in regards to Oddoseia, Yaneko deliberately wanted to be undesirable to the opposite gender as much as possible especially after what happened in the prologue. To me, it felt almost like she desired to become more interested with the same gender instead or least be seen as an idealized person for other girls to be friends/consider as a role model (in her mind). This explains to a certain extent why Yaneko was so insecure about revealing herself besides being an obvious target and Zaijouin himself.

I have barely touched the surface of the second game but I liked how it expands upon more on these issues with appearance and as well as discrimination, which was only gone over in 異端審問官の愛寂 very loosely. Smokefil is probably my favorite side character in the first game so I'm really happy to see him as one of the leads this time.

In a way Majo is sort of a dark version of that old school genre of magical girl or superhero story where a child protagonist becomes an adult alter ego. Minky Momo, Creamy Mami etc.
Not that Yaneko is a child in the same way (she’s presumably around high school age) but it’s the same kind of fantasy.

>friends
I love the female friendships/relationships between female characters in gayoushi’s works. More than the otome elements really. The female casts of her stuff are so varied, you don’t see much like it in VNs. It sometimes feels like the female friendships are given more weight than the heroine’s relationship with the guy. Goes to the extreme in Ame Omoi which more or less has a yuri true end. Fitting given it clearly takes some inspiration from utena.
Also it’s good that you’ve played Itanshinmonkan because there’s a short follow up scene for it in majo 2. I didn’t play it before I had finished but I’d recommend that anyone who wants to play the majo series play it before the second one.
Shibari Shinpu also has a follow up scene. It’s not really clear since it’s an AU story for Suregaru but it’s set in the same world as majo. I wouldn’t say it’s vital but there’s a certain reveal that was a complete shock to me that would probably be a lot easier to guess if you’ve played it.

So. About YOU CRYING.
.................................................wew lad.

The quantum timeline was probably meant to be a mitigating factor, but I don't think it's possible to read this route and not take it as the ultimate punchline to Nitta's entire arc. Again I don't know if the branching conditions would let someone experience these three routes in a different order, but that would suck so hard. I SCREAM. I CRYING, YOU CRYING in this order has a perfect flow, perfect structure, buildup, payoff, and an incredibly satisfying conclusion.

Well, even if he had competition he is just too damn entertaining. I'm going to miss him going forward.

As for Maki's route, that sounds to me like a pretty good reason to start with his route. After the four routes of Open an interlude of sorts doesn't sound like such a bad thing. Well but also during the prologue he was my top choice for first route, so there's that too. Will come down to what mood my final Open route will leave me in, probably.

Yeah, Gayoushi seems like she draws a lot of her inspiration from older anime and manga so no surprise there. She does drop references to some media in her own work as a running gag time to time.

>The female casts of her stuff are so varied, you don’t see much like it in VNs.
Gayoushi's interpretation of friendships, especially among the girls, is also one of my favorite elements in all the agony/禁飼育 VNs I've read so far as well. There's nothing else quite like it. Her way with writing characters and their interactions feels both as a experience that hits home personally and also something that's feels refreshing at the same time.
While not an otome, Gayoushi's eroge title, Kokuzai, also had slight yuri undertones with Ayuri and her interactions with the other females in the story, all of which felt nicely done despite some rough edges. Honestly wished Kugiko wasn't linked to her """love interest""" for that reason. Was really curious about the friends in Ame Omoi so I'm glad to hear that it also attempts similar elements.

>Also it’s good that you’ve played Itanshinmonkan because there’s a short follow up scene for it in majo 2.
I'm more or less a person who favors release order when it comes to consuming most media within a series so I just thought reading Itanshinmonkan and Geretsu were at least obligatory to read before going into the second game and I'm glad I did. A few other reviews I've seen have been also giving out similar remarks as you mentioned as well.
Itan was quite good despite not being R18 as with the rest of the non-free agony games I've played. I really enjoyed Itan far more for its SoL compared to the dramatic dark change as what agony/禁飼育 is typically most well known for. The interactions among the marshland friends were fun.
On that note, kinda felt Itan's climax was particularly awkwardly executed. Especially how the nuns somehow convinced just about about every doctor in the city to completely throw away their moral compass for hush money. Just found it incredulous despite the reasons given. I also got Suregaru from the last DLsite sale and was planning to read Shibari Shinpu with it but I wasn't sure at all how it was related to the Majo series. Much appreciated for the heads up.

Honestly if you are a foreign fan, in some respects it’s easier today to find people to discuss things with, though obviously the state of the industry is a downer.
With otome games, it used to be the case that most new releases were vita exclusives and since the vita didn’t have a working emulator until recently, you had to both own a console and have the skills to read Japanese with no text hooker (en releases were few and far between). The barriers to entry were pretty high. At the time I was a high schooler with no money and babby tier Japanese and I could only look on and seethe as my compatriots played games I thought looked cool like Sweet Clown and Psychadelica while I settled for an nth playthrough of tmgs3 or struggling through some partially translated PC game with VNR. To me it always feels like a fantasy for the sort of self-centred person who sees that and thinks 'wow, she's just like me, all my problems are someone else's fault too'.
That being said I found Virche enjoyable for the most part when I played it after it came out. Katagiri can at least write different plots, and heroines who have hobbies apart from mopping floors and peeling potatoes. And write romance that's not side plot like what it is in nakayamafags stories, but what can you expect from an otom*tes low standards pegi 12+ cuck. And didn't say that kataguri is the perfect writer she's as bad but compared to that fag yes id rather take her dickless cuck's bad endings.

Basically every pil game was written by a different writing team, usually an already known writer with a fairly distinctive style, or at least the thing they made for pil is similar to something they made previously.
Koibito Yuugi is like Maruki’s previous work, Shingakkou is like BaraKi, I’ve never read anything else by the masquerade writer but they had previously worked with the same artist before for a different studio or maybe in a doujin circle.
Pigeon Blood was the only game written like it was and even then it was using some already known writers (it was also very badly received so it’s easy to see why they never did it again).
So if it seems like there’s a house style it’s more based on who’s being chosen seeming like a fit for the company I guess. It’s not like some companies where there’s an obvious creative director behind the tendencies you see in the games (that I can see, at least, there could certainly be an anonymous one).
As for where this style came from, I think it’s from back in the 90s when Pil was a bishojo game developer that made S&M games. Masquerade seems to be more or less a gay adaptation of one of these, Gakuen Sodom. You also might have seen screenshots of Daraku no Kuni no Angie before, they make the rounds in ‘funny eroge screenshot’ compilations sometimes.

Craftwork originated from Pil too. Both Maruki and Shingakkou's writers did eroge writing for Pil games. Katagiri did eroge too for orbit/core, the company carnelian is in. Pil chose writers that had experience with both bl and eroge. Love and destroys writer is Kyuuyouzawa Lychee who had done bl writing strictly. The other one is the artist.

The game was full of scenes that make for fun liveblogging material. I didn't want to spam the thread with small comments but I was so tempted at times, Like Teppei's feminine screeching as he groveled before Nitta or when I found out that I was one apology away from getting an early murder-rape bad end on that extra virgin olive oil of a route or when I was totally convinced that Nitta was going to pour that bottle of shouchuu down Teppei's ass to check for anal fissures although that didn't happen in the end.

Ah, honestly the issue is that I was just writing down whatever stupid thought I had while reading here and there so it's pretty hard to follow. Also suprisingly I didn't write anything while playing the Gondou-centric routes.
But here goes, everything spoilered out of necessity:

Most games have gangrapes but you don't see too often the protag getting diarrhea and hemorrhoids from it afterward
incidentally Paradise also had the MC fussing over the aftereffects of getting beaten and raped and that had Cage's writers. guess it's just their thing

Nitta is making him drink pocari sweat like he's feeding a baby and he almost choked

>キレんなよ、処女もらってやったんだぜ?売れ残りそうだったろ?
>見っけてやったの俺なんだからよ、感謝されて当然、キレられる覚えはねえな
Segawa is such a troll
>あいつがケツの良さを皆さんに広めたんだろ
wow
also I can't get over this fucking scene he's chatting with the guys who gangraped him previously to get info on his crush

>差し出されたジャージを受け取る。この関谷ってやつも、よくわからん。レイプしたり、服を貸してくれたり。でも、悪い奴ではないんじゃないだろうか。ほだされたように、そう思う。
I think MC has a few screws loose
he got gangraped by this dude but afterward he lent him something to cover himself so he doesn't walk around with his torn pants and his ass hanging out, so he's thinking he might be a good guy after all
俺にも、何か出来る事ないか。
yeah he's nuts
案外、傷ついてねえんだなぁと、自分に少し感心した。
or he's just taking it very well I guess. maybe because he had a big cry earlier and got it out of his system. with another choice he fucking snaps and murders them about as soon as he sees them

now he's helping the rapist's cover story to, get this, repair his crush's friendship with him
basically his crush came to find MC at the place where they gangrape people (because he was passed around there too and he was old friends with one of the rapists, but they're on poor terms now) and the rapist pretended he interrupted him halfway and nothing happened
and MC goes along with it because he wants his crush to get along with his friends and not be lonely
I'm still trying to process this
I guess he also didn't want his crush to find out he actually got raped but at that moment what was going on through his head was indeed trying to save crush's friendship with the rapist. nevermind that the frenemy's kind of a bad influence. I mean he gangbanged them both
What's amazing is that rapist was apparently on the same wavelength:
>なんで未遂って言ったんだろう。未遂なんかじゃねえのに。
>でも、そうだな、もしかしたら。
>瀬川も、新田と仲直りしたくなったとか。顔を見たら後悔して、謝ったりしたくなる事はままある。そういうことだろうか?
(maybe it was also because Nitta was about to bash his fucking head in with a mallet if he had admitted he raped MC)

Nitta too didn't want to break the door and rush in because Segawa's father owns the building and he had helped him out sometimes and what the fuck is wrong with all these people
oh maybe it was also his way of saying he didn't want to beat up Segawa, Nitta's a bit shy
it's one of those games that's so perplexing, I get the urge to have a beer with the writer just to figure out what kind of person they are

>Nitta checks his ass to make sure he was telling the truth
hahahaaa
>Nitta asking him if he came when he was raped
haahaaahaaaa, this fucking game
"then cum" "what?" "cum here, in front of me" "why" "I wanna see it"
and the typical bickering over what the fuck Nitta is asking. at least MC seems as perplexed as me most of the time

何となく、笑ってるように見える。でも、性質の悪そうな笑い方じゃなくて、懐かしそうな、そんな柔らかさ。
yeah one of the rapist guys just completely turned into some friendly neighborhood old man
>「……あいつ、何か温厚そうだよな」
>「な訳ねえよ。瀬川の連れだぞ」
even Nitta has a clearer head than MC despite his extreme autism

>> No.45271394

>>45271386
>another of the rapist gang sent the gangbang vid to Nitta to piss him off because he was annoyed at him being chummy with Segawa again
this is why they can't have nice things
>he actually sent it to piss Nitta off AND because Nitta offered to let him fuck MC again once in exchange
what what what
>何を言ってるのか理解出来ない。
>何を言ってるのか……理解出来ない。
Segawa: 「………てめえは駄目だな、もう」
Nitta:「は? 友達一匹も管理できねえカスが何を言ってんの」

oh Nitta merely made the promise. Ended up killing him too for raping MC. kakkeeee:
「パシリご苦労さん。 でもお前も映ってたよ」

>Segawa's gang and Nitta's grudge was over Nitta fucking his ex/their mutual friend to death
this is too fucking stupid
funniest thing is I'm pretty sure he didn't actually die but Nitta's just lying to cover his running away, I mean he's confirmed alive in the other endings but who knows
Maybe Segawa and co sorta caught on too but they couldn't trust Nitta after that outrageous story

>lied about being an orphan too
what the fuck is his problem
>"Let's all die together. We're friends, right?"
what the fuck is his problem

MC trying to get some last answers out of Nitta while he's dying with his guts spilling to the ground
it's kino in a way, mainly comedy though. "oops I better not step on that"
>"let's do it"
what
「…………は……?」
>"climb on top"
「…………………な
何言ってんのお前!? そんな場合じゃねえよ!!!」」
「お……俺、あ゛ぁ…… 俺、動けねえから、動かして」
HIS GUTS ARE CURRENTLY SPILLED ON THE GROUND
「あああ頼むから、頼むから、頼むから喋るな」
「たっ……、多分、勃つから。乗って」
it's been a while since I actually cried of laughter
I've seen ONE other scene where someone wanted to fuck with his guts hanging out in Nie no Machi but he was, like, a zombie. not actually dying.
「……痛かったら言えよ」
MC please
>そこも、真っ赤だった。上から垂れた血で。ヒョウ柄のパンツが真っ赤で、滑稽だった。悲しくなった。
this writer is a fucking genius. Of course Nitta wears leopard-print boxers and of course they're covered in blood. and his dick is already lukewarm and half-limp
「………はんだちでも、いれてみて」
this fucking ending. at least they don't need lube thanks to all the blood
滑りすぎてか、俺に余裕がないからか、何度も、指で作った輪から、それを外してしまう。
hetakuso. or it's just that limp I guess

then MC has to dig through his guts to find the McGuffin but that's actually the most reasonable thing that happened tonight

And another route:

>アホが。クソだよお前。 自分のお気に入りが犯されてる動画? そんなん見たら、あいつ発狂すんぜって

>Nitta saves MC from getting gangbanged again
>offers him a ride home at his back
>notices his bulge uwu
"can you even ride like that? why don't you just bust a nut real quick right here" (here being the side of the road as far as I can tell)
>思考が完全に止まっていたので、意味を理解するどころか、声自体が耳に入ってこなかった。
>今の俺には性質の悪い冗談にしか聞こえず、嫌悪感を露にして、呆然と新田を見詰める。
a common occurrence I guess
>"we're going to be riding for at least a hour, are you sure you can hold it that long?"
is this a subtle diss at MC being a loose whore or
>シビアな顔つきだった。茶化してるとか馬鹿にしてるとか、そういうのでは一切無い、現実問題を問うている顔。
hard to tell really. even if he's not making fun of him he might still be seriously suggesting that because he thinks MC is a sex addict too
「……10分、待っててくれ」
MC, come on.
「5分」
>I can't do it that fast, you know. I'm the slow type.
>Eh. Then I'll do it in 5 mins for you.
at last MC gets the hint but he was too slow to escape
>なんかもう、失望感というか、絶望感しか沸かなかった。
amazing technique though:
>俺の体は、最後の一滴まで残さずに、搾り出す。

>トランクスから出てきた新田の手。白いものがついた、新田の手。俺の肩に乗せられた新田の顔。赤い舌。それに、白いものが絡め取られるのが見えた。
did I mention I love Nitta
and then of course he just keeps molesting him

did I mention I love Nitta
>calling Segawa's name
MC please, are you trying to die
>he's doing it again
to be fair it seems more effective than stomping on his crotch
at hurting him that is, not so much at getting him to stop

>新田の口から歯軋りの音が聞こえた。薄目を開けて、面を見てみる。大きく切れ上がった口角から、犬歯が見えた。
I think he literally never made that expression before even when he was going ax-crazy. well hammer-crazy
yeah he's never snapped like this before, seriously MC what the fuck are you doing
he's also literally never talked so much

so Nitta's been talking shit for a solid 5 mins now but this is still extraordinary
>You think I got... assfucked because I l-liked it?
>Yeah.
top stuff

「―――とか言ってみたけどな、 実際どうでも関係ねえよ。 お前が嫌がってようが誘ってようが。しっかり入れるもんは入れてんだろ?」
somehow it's even edgier than the other ending. I mean that one was full of embarrassingly cheesy moments
of course the whole thing just deepened MC's stockholm syndrome:
もう、なんつか、こいつを、連れて帰れればそれでいい気がしてきた。

Segawa starts dragging along MC somewhere, MC is alarmed obviously. Segawa:
「は? ―――あ、連れてくってやつか? ちょっとその思考はビッチ過ぎんじゃねえの? 連れてくイコールセックスパーチーかよ、ハマったか? もしや」
love this character analysis:
>なんのこたねー、新田なんぞ勝手に誤解して勝手に一人でテンパってるお祭り野郎だよ。お情けかけてやる義理も友情もねえんだよ。まー放っときゃ勝手に自滅するだろうけど

>Segawa pitching the idea to kill Nitta together
oh Segawa you're normally the smartest guy in the room but
「根に持ってやがんな。 あんなん忘れろよ、若気の至りだろ? 遊び半分でやっただけだって」

>so it's pretty hard to follow
It was surprisingly easy actually. It helps that all of these scenes are for the time being living rent free in my head. Thanks for posting this, it was a great laugh. I'm so relieved that I'm not alone in thinking that THAT scene was peak comedy. I wonder of that was the authors' intention, I'm not familiar with their style. But the entire route was just flat out bizarre for several reasons, but I guess that's just the natural outcome of putting so many literal lunatics in the same room. Friendly neighborhood rapist was somehow the sanest of them all.

I actually didn't for a second doubt that Nitta was telling the truth about Gondou. I took it as the game's way of indicating (possibly red herring'ing) Nitta's mental state on any given route. Then again, we are talking about two sociopathic liars here, so who the fuck even knows.

>and a worthy climax:

Also Yoshimoto's route real quick:

man I can't place Yoshimoto's speech pattern at all
he's sort of talking like an old man but mixed with thug slang
is it a regional dialect? i don't know.
I remember something about the stereotypical old man speech being from somewhere
but he's also insane so it might just be his own idiosyncrasy
「それ以上くだらねえ質問こいたら、口にちん棒ブチ込むぞ」
alright, fine

「最初こそ派手に喧嘩してたみてえだが。後半は仲良しこよしのホモ野郎だったって報告受けてんぜ」
love this game

>Yoshimoto dindu nuffin he a good boy
>sure he almost killed me when we first met and keeps beating me up whenever we meet
>and his only hobby is apparently beating the crap out of people
>and he started killing people back in, oh, elementary school
>but I'm sure it's just because he's stupid
>I know he has a pure and gentle soul deep inside

I'll have to check that game out eventually. What else have this writing team worked on? Any LNs perhaps? Their style is incredibly enjoyable.

Oh, and I forgot in my post.
The diarrhea surprised me too in a good way., and there were some other small moments of realism here and there. It only happened on the good route, but Teppei going
>Nope. Hurts like fucking hell. Feels like shit. This isn't good, not even a little.
during the rape scene was both just good writing, but also really funny because not only this was the good route but also the singular sex scene between him and Nitta on it.

>Their style is incredibly enjoyable.
Absolutely. I'm not an aspiring novelist or anything, even in my native language, but I keep thinking that if I ever wrote fiction in Japanese I'd want my style to be like that. It flows well, it's raw and rather unpretentious but still shows off with some witty wordplay or unusual simile etc. The dialog especially is so fresh after playing the usual romance shovelware.

>What else have this writing team worked on?
As far as big works go, just their own stuff + pil/slash's Paradise and Dystopia no Ou I think.
Apparently they've written for some shitty mobile games too according to VNDB, but judging from the description, it was probably to pay the bills. I'm tempted to check one of them out though just to see. Well, Paradise and Dystopia had some lovey dovey bits too (especially in Kiwame) so I can imagine what sort of thing they'd write.

>realism
Between that and the descriptions of injuries and abuse, makes me wonder what kind of life the authors had. Of course maybe they're just the type to read real crime stuff and lurid autobiographies.
And yeah, it's crazy how little they bother pandering to the romancewhales or sticking to conventions. Almost any other VN author would think "oh shit, I've got to throw a bone to the readers here" or "I really have to tone this down, the character might become too unlikable/unrelatable" but in Cage at least they just wrote whatever the hell they wanted.

The most notable thing is that it has I guess 'evil routes' where (you) can get corrupted and become one of the mean girls. I played one of these routes and nothing that crazy happens, it was just typical elite high school story stuff, but it was an interesting system.

Speaking of replaying the route, I glanced at the walkthrough to get an idea of the game's system and there seems to be quite a bit of replaying for every character. That's... 1 normal, 1 evil, 1 true route for each and it's further split between good and bad branches, 6 endings per character? And you have to complete the normal route first before you get the true route but the evil one seems optional.

NTA but I would say yeah it's pretty easy to read in japanese. Ayakashi gohan is my 3rd VN and it feels perfect for me in terms of difficulty
It's mostly school and slice of life with some cooking vocab and a very small smattering of Shinto related vocab
If you read with texthooker and have read something in Japanese before it you should have no trouble with it since it's mostly dialogue and inner thoughts with very little narration/description of actions or events
>Rejet
Bad medicine was the first VN I played and I felt it was pretty doable since there is even less narration in it then Ayakashi gohan
Tiny machinegun I found fairly challenging and it's also only partially voiced so I've paused that. Alice=alice I'm reading currently and it looks fairly doable for newbies BUT I'm finding some of the dialogue confusing because its meant to be weird and quirky. Besides that it seems very gentle
Not sure about their other games
I think i said it before but I've found pretty much everything I've tried to be fairly challenging at the beginning but they end up easier the longer I read
What I do is I'll try different stuff out and read it for ~5 hours and if I still find it rly frustrating then I'll cut my losses and make a note to come back to it later. Maybe you can something like that
Sorry for rambling on about myself, hopefully that can be a bit useful for you

ANYWAYS on the topic of Alice=alice I'm getting heckin whiplash from how Ura alice is almost the complete opposite of Gin in Ayakashi gohan even tho they share the same VA. Feels nice that Im starting to recognise seiyuu btwn games (altho I still don't remember anyones names lol)

i'll be honest, i got completely engrossed in hashihime the more i read it, so i've also completely neglected ayakashi gohan. i look forward to reading it after this though; sort of as a palate cleanser after hashihime.
hashihime is actually my first bl vn. i usually stick to otome stuff, but it looked so interesting that i couldn't help but start reading it. i've read reviews about hashihime being front-loaded and after finishing the first three "routes", i can kinda see what they meant. the first and second routes were far longer than the third one. it's still very good in my opinion, though that may be because a lot of its scenes and concepts really appeal to my personal interests. my favorite character so far is the protagonist; it's that kind of story where i don't understand why the love interests like him at all, but i also kind of get it.
hashihime seems like it'd be really difficult to read in japanese, what with the setting and all the references to japanese literature. the translation can be a little off at times, so i hope i'd be able to reach a point where i can experience it fully in japanese too someday

There's this https://vndb.org/v17215 old doujin game. It's pretty unheard of among western fans but it's got something of a cult following jp-side, or at least there's a decent amount of fairly recent fanart for it.
This is a tangent but it basically seems like there was a parallel world of BL free games that were popular in the 00s, mostly I think among teens who weren't in a position to buy the legit ones. Sometimes you see a currently working free game dev list works they're a fan of and it's a list of totally unfamiliar people, you look them up and they were incredibly popular once upon a time but there won't even be a vndb page. Being free games they were just not in the same ecosystem that existing foreign fans at the time would have come across I guess.
On an even further tangent slightly related to the last one I came across an old webcomic called 胎界主 in those same lists which has loads of old fan wikis and was apparently pretty popular (it's still running and has an active 5ch thread even) but has zero hits in english at all. It's stuck in my mind because it's very bizarre looking and sometimes it comes back into my mind, I wonder what it's actually about, try and figure it out from the descriptions and come up with a blank (I guess it is like a lot of webcomics that have been running for 20-ish years where it's so large and bloated it's hard to sum it up). Anyway, I kind of always assumed even the most obscure japanese media was at least listed in english wikis somewhere due to weeb autism but apparently there's still some stuff out there that's unknown.

It reminds me of the one free BL game maker who was plagiarizing eroge since her underage fans would have no idea but she eventually got caught and shut everything down. I didn't find her old games and they're not on vndb but I saw that she's still making free BL games under a new name (?) these days. It's too bad some games seem to be lost forever, both free games and obscure stuff released at events that never got uploaded anywhere. Finally locked in Yoshimoto's route. I'm really enjoying his dynamic with Teppei so far. Yeah, for now it boils down to attack-counterattack-exchange insults-repeat, but he is such a positive influence on Teppei. I like seeing him so brash and unrestrained and so fed up with this shit.

Anyway I'm placing my bets on Yoshimoto being one of the more what you see is what you get routes. As for Miyase, my first impression is that he is rather dull. I sure hope he can back those threats up with real actions. But Teppei pls, you don't have to point out every other sentence how much the man mogs you. He tall, and huge, and muscular, and tall, wow wow wow.

>>45272546
>It flows well, it's raw and rather unpretentious but still shows off with some witty wordplay or unusual simile etc.
Exactly, I agree with every single word. There is something very appealing about the rawness of it especially. Fuchii for example has the edge, but her writing is too, I don't know how to put it, refined I guess, for the scenarios she is writing. How can you write so many fights to the death, but completely fail to get that pain and desperation and adrenaline rush across? It's truly a mystery. It's half the reason Towa's decadence is her best work on a protag yet, but routes like Rei or Madarame fall completely flat.

>As far as big works go, just their own stuff + pil/slash's Paradise and Dystopia no Ou I think.
Shame, I was hoping they had some non-VN writing too. Ah well, that's still plenty for me to play.

>Of course maybe they're just the type to read real crime stuff and lurid autobiographies.
I'm leaning towards this. Unless they are extremely good at hiding the heavy shit that inspired their writing, because this comes across as more them writing the niche they want to read but barely anyone caters to. It feels like this comes from pure enthusiasm. Or maybe I'm projecting.
>it's crazy how little they bother pandering to the romancewhales or sticking to conventions
Some of these could be deliberate sucker punches, though I think the game is pretty upfront about what you should expect. So probably just them pissing on conventions and having a giggle, rather than pissing on readers. Whichever it is, I love it.

>>45282877
>What did you have in mind for something to help future anons?
Nothing specific at the moment. A spoiler-free starter deck that covers the prologue/common route sounds like a no-brainer, something to drill for a few days before jumping in to help breezing through the first few hours. A less spoiler-fee deck with actual example screenshots could be another option, though that's more for post-reading practice. The most useful, I think, would be to pay attention to the parts that brickwall a reader's progress. Like slang, or pop culture shit, anything that requires extensive google'ing or like the other anon said digging through yahoo asks to make sense of. I'm not really considering writing up guides or anything, but we could collect these and put them in a doc with links and other resources to speed up the process for others. Basically let's just figure out what's most likely to trip anons up, and see if we can do anything about it. But I'm just spitballing here.

Debating between

Don't know who you heard that from, I thought it had plenty, even though it isn't sex galore or anything (as most localised otome games aren't)

Piofiore definitely has more 'spice' between the two, but IMO Collar X Malice is considered super popular for a reason (its fandisc is great, too)

If you want more sexual stuff I'd recommend Olympia Soiree given that the MC explicitly fucking someone is kind of a major plot element. Even if Tempest is also good but not exactly that much romantic shit happens (because of all the political/murder mystery shit going on, even in the fandisc) and in the first game at least you're forced to go through the normal (i.e sad) endings before you unlock the happy ones.

Even if Tempest was the most enjoyable for me, but it's very plot focused with irrelegular romance. Maybe the fandisc makes up for it, not sure, I haven't read it yet.
Olympia and CxM are the safe bets. I don't especially care for either, but they clearly have wide appeal. Former is more character/romance oriented, latter is more plot, but still has a fair amount of romance. If you end up reading CxM then the fandisc is a solid rec, the extras were more interesting than the actual game
Piofiore is only notable for the chinese psychopath, if that doesn't interest you then it's an easy skip. Very boring. In particular I think Dante's route in the fandisc was one of the most eye wateringly boring things I have read in an otome, just hours of absolutely fucking nothing

If you're planning to read the localized version, Cupid Parasite's English TL isn't the greatest admittedly. Even after the patch, the text still cuts off at some parts. Grammar/spelling is also still fairly bad.
I thought it was an enjoyable otome, though. The protagonist is fun/not a submissive doormat and the writing didn't feel like it dragged on despite the usual Otomate length. Probably cuz it's focused on romcom and the writing knows it shouldn't be taken seriously. I played Olympia, Piofiore, and CxM - which I admit to falling asleep to all three while reading. For me, a lot of Otomate games are kinda only worth playing through if you just wanna chill and enjoy the art/voicework as. Probably Piofiore is my favorite all of those three simply because everything besides the writing was great to me.

Speaking of Hirakawa characters, I finished Lucas' route. It was okay, not bad but not great either.

I wasn't convinced about his romance with Ceres. He said he fell for her because she's someone who always overcame God's trials as "Death", essentially revering her as a higher being, but then later on they reveal that he's been blackmailed/brainwashed to have extreme cult views. So where do his true feelings come from?
His general mental state just felt inconsistent and not in the intentional schizo way. He obviously has his own personal distaste for relivers but they'd blame his truly evil moments on the drugs or because he's coping about being a mass murderer, but then when he goes back to being kind to Ceres he flip flops from being his chapter 1 kind-self to the "hehehe be a good girl for me and I wont kill you >:)" kindness, but, again, his character isn't supposed to be an evil bipolar lunatic so I'm confused how he can go back and forth and what side I'm supposed to believe is his real one.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious with his character but it felt like they were too scared to make him a genuine cultist nutcase.

Also the ending where he kills Ceres was odd, wtf was her plan? Ankou said beforehand something like "surely you're not just going to call his name and expect him to snap back into normal" to which she said no, and then she did exactly that kek. She just yelled his name and he sliced her. The 2nd despair ending where she kills him is a much better plan, I laughed at picrel. Imagine going through all of that just to go to heaven without him. And poor onii-chan had to watch her get hung publicly.

I talked a lot of shit but I actually like Lucas...

They’re named for stops along a particular train line, if I remember right. My guess is that the order the stops go along the line is the order you can unlock the routes, if there’s a meaning to it.
Unrelated speculation, I noticed a while ago is that the year it’s set (1955) is the year And Then There Were None was first published in Japanese. I’m gonna guess this is intentional though who knows if it’s just part of the motif or if there’s literally a mastermind copying the story of the book in universe (stranger things have happened in Adelta games?)

Virche might be a little shitty plot-wise but the heroine kinda grew to me. She is so gloomy and relatable at times and ironically funny, like contemplating if she should do simple tasks like turning off a tab without the whole country exploding or flooding.
Not a big fan of the LIs too except for Ankou and Yves. I do like it that not all of the LIs are heads over for the heroine and are selfish and not motivated by their love for her to do things 24/7. So I can't say that it is a bad game overall but the plot really needed to do better because as an idea and theme it wasn't half bad. I heard the fandisk doesn't redeem much, the opposite it's worse, but does justice to Ankou, so I might just do his route and Yves. The character that I really liked is Hugo and Salome. Hugo is bi and in love with Yves so he is more of a rival, can't be a LI, Salome could make a great heroine and have her own spin off game. I can see virche getting an anime in the near future. I'd give it a 5.5/6.

Don't know what's your degree for depressing. For me depressing was sweet pool, laughter land and yoshiwara higanbana. The heroine in virche has depression due to the shitty life. The theme alone is depressing too that we are all going to suffer and die at 23 years old so either work our asses off to pay for the cloned bodies that will let us live for 23 more years else we have to live a full life till 23. It tries to be edgy and depressing but the retarded "plot twists" ruins it. Lucas route did feel a bit depressing but the ironically meme moments ruined the experience. Ankos route did feel depressing too but again the writer had to add her shitty nonsensical retarded plot twists and fuck it all up. How can i explain it, like, there's no coherence? Take pigeon bloods case for example, since there were 5+ writers it's understandable that if there's no coherence. But in virches case she wrote it all by herself and only had two sub assistants so a solo story lacking coherence is a fail to me at least. If you go without high expectations though you might like it. I did end up enjoying games starting with low expectations but this one was overhyped so I did go all the way despite the warnings.
To the anon who shared the game with us, thank you again, you saved me from starving a month in order to afford this. I don't think that I'll try another new otomate title for a while. Maybe 9rip. Honestly I'd say I'm just a lot easier on the plots of otome games since 90% of the time the focus is meant to be on the romance/immersion into an idealized/otherwise entertaining romantic relationship. As long as it succeeds in doing that, other potential issues with plot/gameplay mechanics (if there are any) tend to stand out less since they're clearly not the most important thing going on there.

Kind of similar to the idea of someone not really caring if their somewhat cringey romance novel has a complex story or not, since its not entirely what they're there for. It's just more of a plus otherwise if it DOES have that.

IMO from reading less serious otome and moege, I found out it's just better if those sort of games don't complicate themselves.
I haven't read Virche but I could only imagine people are hard on it because it wants to be taken seriously as something plot heavy and complicated but falls short to people's expectations. It's pretty much the reason why I really dislike plot heavy otome from Otomate but enjoy their SoL/romcom ones. I read a lot of plot heavy eroge, some of which aren't translated, so sometimes I can't help but feel off with what Otomate does while the rest of world seems to praise them to an excessive degree.

For otome, it's ok if the imouto in question is a little kid. Kind of weird if she's around MC's age or old enough to be a plausible romantic interest.
Absolutely out of the question: Imouto is dead, and MC reminds the LI of the dead imouto he just can't let go and this is why he's obsessed with her. I haven't seen this before but I see it with moms rather than sisters a lot and I hate it.

>> No.45339727

Speaking of mediocre otome games, I've been playing Zettai Kaikyuu Gakuen a bit.
For the record I've only done Haru's and Riku's routes on the Rose side so far (I'm doing everyone's Rose endings first, to avoid having to reread too much) and frankly I should be holding my judgment until I check out at least one true end but I've been itching to review it already.

I was expecting a fairly brainless game that insults the reader's intelligence, but it feels more like it's only insulting the protag's intelligence while teasing the reader. It actually managed to get me mildly interested in the plot/mysteries, and soon I realized the game has made me downright paranoid. Congrats because I don't really remember another commercial otome managing that, especially when the presentation is so light and cheerful (for comparison, Jooubachi only had me rolling my eyes at the "intrigue" despite it supposedly being the main draw.)
So by the time I was done with the prologue and the character intros I was furiously speculating based on small hints and vibes, for example:
- every LI seems like he'll be revealed to be the opposite of how he presents himself. Riku-sama tries to act elite and intimidating but he's a harmless tsundere dork, Haru acts cold and rude but actually sensitive and kind, Ichiha is probably far more gloomy and sinister than his popular charao image, Rei might not be as noble or kind as he is assumed to be (also seems subtly sympathetic to Resistance views), Touya seems like what you see is what you get but there has to be more to him... All fairly standard otome stuff but this affects my perception of secondary characters too.
- the headmaster Kaburagi obviously isn't father's old friend but rather the villain hounding him and he's only being nice to MC to extract information... or is he? he's giving off so many sinister vibes it might be a red herring, sometimes his affable act seems oddly genuine... but he is so cold to the Queen he's manipulating... but he's doting on protag like she's a concubine's child or something, doesn't all the extra attention mean she's more than just the tool the Queen is? Sometimes it seems like he's waiting for the protag (and Touya?) to topple the hierarchy system or at least the Queen... but he's the one who set that up in the first place didn't he?
- the doctor MIGHT be father's old friend, do I sense that he was once in love with protag's mother? Is he as kind as he appears? Is he somehow related to Ichiha?
- the old lady neighbor who gave her father's letter is probably a spy for the zaibatsu and tampered with the letter, but what was changed exactly? the gifts seem genuine so was it just the text of the letter being altered? Did they merely take a peek at what it said without changing anything? (eg the "old friend" bit)
- why the hell did Dad send her to this school? sure she's probably safer from the outside world due to how isolated and controlled the school is, and there might be his "old friend" there to back her, but in exchange she's been delivered right to the villain(?) to manipulate her and the only reason it hasn't brought immediate disaster is that she's totally clueless about her dad. And what's with the fucking PDA or whatever it was
- Moeka is too brainless to be a spy but was probably subtly assigned to be her friend to brainwash her into the system
- her new best friend Mitsuki-san on the other hand is actively sabotaging her with shitty advice, likely deliberately out of personal hatred (related to the Queen?)
- who gave protag that warning to get out of school anyway? A jealous rose like Mitsuki? Someone worried for her safety like perhaps Rei (or Touya who somehow acquired a rose card, maybe back when he was one)? The Queen?
>who poisoned the queen? The headmaster? the Queen herself? the doctor even?

You'll notice I didn't spoiler any of this, that's because it's all questions raised in the first hour or so... and then the game does absolutely nothing with any of it in the Rose routes so I don't really know anything more than I did at the start, I can't even tell if I've been overthinking this or if I was right to be paranoid.
That was my big disappointment, normally VNs manage to resolve at least some subplots or shove in a little shard of the truth no matter the route/ending, but there was absolutely nothing in Haru and Riku's Rose routes besides the exploration of their personalities. I feel like I've barely got a glimpse of their backstories/true selves, as well. I know it wasn't their True ends and the point of the Rose route is that the dumb protag lost to temptation and got brainwashed by the system but come on.

not an otome but i remember reading a story (i think it was a one-shot manga?) about the guy being in love with his sister and the girl with her brother. and they were using each other to cope
it's an interesting concept for a story imo, but i don't imagine it'd be popular with players

Honestly you should treat the Rose routes as a bonus 'what-if' that would otherwise be a single ending or completely skipped in most games.

>> No.45339900

>>45339727
As for the character's routes in themselves I'm pretty temporarily happy.
I was expecting Haru to be more of a pushover bully victim but he has his strong autistic will, the painting symbolism was on point too. Riku was more amusing, pathetic and cute than I even hoped.

"Realistic" isn't the right word obviously, but I was pretty impressed at how the game doesn't bend over backward for protag in these. Haru's Rose route is appropriately hopeless, bitter and lonely. Riku's Rose route shows exactly what would happen if you tried to date some narcissistic, emotionally awkward elite brat with more money/influence than sense. Both were very entertaining trainwrecks (trying to turn Haru into her art pet! Riku's inevitable demotion! just lovely) although it feels like they ended a bit too soon, I was a bit curious to see if the writers could salvage the situations somehow.

My main complaint is the dumb doormat MC, and the fact that it doesn't really feel like she got corrupted until the very end of each route.
I guess it makes sense, it does take a while for people to change so she wouldn't really adapt that easily until a few months have passed, but it makes it even more baffling that she's praised for adapting quickly to the school's system when she's still being a total blockhead about it weeks after her promotion.
It also makes me despair for the non-Rose routes, since another reason I played these first is that I figured turning evil would make protag at least somewhat interesting, but her lack of development was disappointing. I could be praising the writers for having her stay true to herself instead of overwriting her personality, for showing that it takes more than washing off the grime to turn Cinderella into a princess, but sadly her authentic personality is just so boring it leaves me wishing for her to get bodysnatched.
Well, it's one of those games where protag is the only unvoiced character in the entire game despite otherwise being full-voice, and there was a faceless option for her to boot, so it was a bit silly to expect more from her I guess.

So it seems. I'm surprised at this choice of format though.

>>45339637
perfectly acceptable, as long as MC is the imouto.
I also don't mind characters being all about their LIVING relatives, whether it's their siblings or parents or grandma, but if they're obsessing over dead family or worse, a past lover/fiancé it leaves me with a bad aftertaste.

Speaking of manlets, Zettai Kaikyuu Gakuen's Haru is listed as 169cm on VNDB, presumably from his official profile on something, but the game seems to imply he's 165 cm. When he's starting to fret over his height he asks MC who says she's 155cm, then he's relieved that he's 10 cm taller. Maybe I'm remembering wrong and he said "thank god, I'm over 10 cm taller" though.

He looks more like a 165cm either way. Hell, 169 barely counts as short in Japan.

Played Ichiha's Rose route too. Similarly entertaining but leaves something to be desired.

I had my suspicions pretty early on that he was deliberately playing with girls' hearts, maybe trying to kick them down to slave rank for self-satisfaction or so he could rank up, but surprisingly this route didn't quite make his intentions clear. Maybe it was his initial plan but halfway he started hoping protag would be different from the other girls and then he was disappointed but still somewhat reluctant to finish her off... In short what the fuck was his problem?

Meanwhile Mitsuki's malice was perfectly obvious in this route, in the others she kept some plausible deniability for her advice turning out badly. I knew it was coming but I still lost it at that "we will always be friends, oh by the way could you do me a little favor?" ending. Utterly diabolical bitch, 10/10.
Speaking of shitty advisors, it was kind of interesting how she was getting decent but mixed/contradictory advice from Edward-sensei and Rei (and Mitsuki of course) but following either advice failed to salvage her relationship with that jerk or preserve her sanity. Peak tragedy.
Very respectable writing for this sort of shlock.

I finished Geminism. I'm gonna write my thoughts here and not the eroge thread because I don't want to be called a faggot. We're past bump limit anyway so we can do a little eroge talk, no?
I haven't really looked at other reviews, so I have no idea how it was recieved but I found it pretty enjoyable. As for how /blog/ it is? If it looks like it'd interest you I'd recommend it even if you don't normally play danseimuke eroge, it goes down very easy for a player used to joseimuke (almost exclusively female POV, fixed couples) and the guys and their interactions with the girls and each other are great.
Though it's not an actual otomege, I'd say the main thing that made it feel different (H-CG angles aside) was that the 'romance' was intentionally shallow. In the end, the girls are far more concerned with each other than they are with the guys, and the guys are more concerned with each other than the girls (perhaps to a fujobait degree? See picrel, it's a spoiler though. Also Tsukishiro says that he picked his girl because she reminded him of Awasumi so take that as you will).
It doesn't feel much like Sayooshi aside from the art/music and I guess one particular section. Sex scenes are more or less vanilla, it's not all that gory either. So you might be disappointed if you expect something crazy on that front. In general it feels more 'fun', black comedy more than horror for the most part. Though I suppose the ending has a similar tone to Sayooshi where it feels like things are gearing up to repeat all over again.
I think the most disturbing parts are the more conceptual body horror stuff and the girls' past, they were originally conjoined twins who were locked in a room all their life by their mom who deliberately didn't teach them about the outside world or how old they really were, Gypsy Rose Blanchard style (but more benevolent) so they thought they were kids even though they were like 30. The reason they ended up deformed was because they were result of their mom's twin brother raping her. And their dad/uncle comes and visits them regularly behind the mom's back to molest them too. But since only one twin can be awake at a time, every time he came along it was always one twin (Shinku) who stayed concious to protect the other (Kikyou). Uncle gives Shinku presents to bribe her, but when Kikyou wakes up she sees all the stuff and doesn't understand and thinks Shinku is getting favorable treatment, so they hate each other.
It's not very long, I didn't mind this, but to be honest I've been playing a lot of doujin games recently so I might just be used to this sort of length. It was a nice thing to play over the weekend anyway.
