I appreciate that they are actually allowing the heroines to fight other people, even if they're just drawn in silhouette. When I was reading Mekuiro and figured out that they basically were only ever going to show fights between heroines or the few side characters with few variations between routes, it was a little disappointing. Little things like that show that a developer is willing to learn and evolve their craft.

Do you have to be autistic to enjoy this kind of text? Everything in this game feels like it was designated specifically to waste your time, it takes ages just to say one thing and every scenes feels 10 times longer than they should be

This has to be the most boring shit I've ever read in my life, it just has nice coating with nice art and music and a seemingly deep theme, perfect to fool retards

I'm not going to be so radical as to say that the experience is not worth it, because falling in love with someone is great, but yeah, the possible disappointment afterwards can be devastating. Finally finished VB Frontier... and also Frontier International. I had no idea that the latter was actually a remaster with extra stuff. I thought it was just a rerelease for the English version.

The eugenics program got downgraded to merely hiring units now. What a shame, I liked the pregnancies.
The game now limited your units. You only had at most 12 units of each type. I don't like it. I perfer having every one at my fingertips.
The menu controls were a bit clunky, at least for me. Drag-and-drop was fine and all, but there's 60 units you needed to gear here, and it's a hassle to do them all. I just only equipped the main characters. Abyss had one-click-to-equip-all function and I don't understand why they didn't reuse it.
The moon cycle and units were expanded to have more elements as well as day & night. 1 turn now only had 6 phases instead of 10. It's cool but didn't change the gameplay much.
The most annoying part for me was when you needed to defend the captured cities. In previous games, these happened at fix times, during plot points. Now, it's random and really screwed you over if you just wanted to go through the chapter fast. I sometimes had to spend 5+ turns in a row defending. They should at least had like a cooldown between invasions or something.

The plot took notes from Empire, a demon invaded the holy lands, then turned back and took over the demon land. It's nice and back to basics.
The game did a good job making me dislike the antagonists. Surtr was such a bastard. His grin after the change was really unnerving for me. True Odin was a surprise, but just as detestable.
Loki was fun and Hvedrungr was hilarious.
I liked all the heroines, except Fena. Nothing against her, I did warm up to her relationship with Loki, I just didn't like her design. Maybe it's the pink hair. I'm allergic to them.
The character endings were proper epilouges this time. Although the requirements for them were slightly more annoying to do in exchange. The goddesses can't be corrupted during the final chapter, so I needed to do that chapter twice to get both versions' endings. And there were several battles between the endings choice and the actual final battle so I needed to repeat them too.
At least I like the epilouges, except for evil Rigret end. That one was weird. She's the designated anal slut, so I guess she's like the punching bag for this game. It's too bad since I like her.
Also this game had too much ryona, especially during the chaos parts. It's too extreme for me.
The demonesses now had their own ending. Well one ending together instead of separately, but it's progress.
What I like the most about the heroines, but game didn't draw much attention to it, besides Tyrka, was that most of them were related to Loki. The incest was awesome.

I first thought the extra scenes added with the international version were like after-epilouge, a where-are-they-now thing, but they were just stuffs happening during the law route. What a let down.
I liked the lovely dovely H-scene with Tyrka. I dig their relationship.
Freya didn't even get anything lol. I guess people didn't like used goods. I liked her more than the previous motherly heroines from previous games.
Odin's H-scene was odd. I don't know why they went with that direction.
The isekai girls apparently came from ninetail's other games? I think one came from Gaia, but the references went way over my head at the time. Also her H-scene didn't happen with Loki, which was a strange decision.
Fun fact, my favorite unit was the Reaper, and she actually got H-scenes in this version, two in fact. Wild.

Idk. While I think the art for franchise peaks here and I do love the law parts, the chaos parts were too degenerate and extreme for me, which hold me back from fully enjoy the entire game.

it doesn't get talked about by alicesoft fans because it isn't some massive game you can dump 100+ hrs into like most of their other stuff but because of that reason its alot less intimating to try for someone who's never read anything with actual gameplay.

Also its just good in general writing wise along with its gameplay but that's to be expected from alicesoft, OST obviously goes hard too https://youtu.be/x5Hr71E4Bmc?si=CiNNeMjywusfGYlG

I think Blade Briders is one of the weaker Alice Soft titles.
I've given it two chances now and I struggle to find reasons to give it a third.
I really like the cast but I find the gameplay and story uncompelling.
The characters themselves are great but their relationships felt shallow.
Maybe it gets way better right after I stopped but it just feels like a "Shaman's Sanctuary" to me.
Don't get me wrong, it's still Alice Soft, it's above average, but I don't think it stands out in their catalogue.

For a person who's interested in Alice Soft games but isn't sure about gameplay I'd recommend Haharanman.
The gameplay is very simple and easy to learn but still challenging and satisfying. The OST is one of my all time favorites. Just beautiful.
I also love the Taisho era setting, it feels refreshing. It's a very comfy game despite all the rape and abuse and murder.
The Japanese is fairly difficult though so it isn't a great fit for a new learner.

And about the "meaning" contantained in the game, I'll say I liked chapter 6. You know, how Naoya still had it after all that years. It was very inspiring.

It's up to you how to interpret it

It is and it isn't.
The goal of the game is to protect the heroines from being raped, mind controlled, abused, and killed.
So I suppose you could say it's netorare if you lose. But the concept is that that only happens as a punishment if you fuck up.
If you do well, it actually feels a lot like a "netori" game where you steal the heroines back from the type of shitty guy who would normally end up with them in a trashy NTR manga.
For example, the green bar in the center of the screen is essentially the sanity meter of one of the antagonists, and you lower it by having sex with the heroine he wants where he can see so he gets jealous.
If anything it almost feels like the opposite of cuckge. You train with your sword so you can defeat any rapist, you manage your schedule so you're always there when a heroine needs you, you use the magic gifted to you to heal the psyche of girls who have been mindbroken. In this city, while the Sakura trees bloom, any man or monster that wants to touch the women you love will learn to fear your name and your blade.
As a person with negative interest in NTR, I can say that I enjoy it very much.

I think sca-ji does here exactly what wittgenstein was cautioning us against. Sca-ji's trying to make a statement about good life, he's trying to express the inexpressible, the mystical aspect that can only show itself to us and whatever you say about it will only turn out to be nonsensical. He's engaging in the futile effort of answering unanswerable nonsensical philosophical questions. I don't know if sca-ji is illustrating here how weird it would sound if someone who regained spark in his life is talking about his experience of the problem of life. Maybe he was trying to engage in language-games that later wittgenstein was so fond of but this isn't quite that.

'God with man is a weak God, yet He is near when one believes.
A work of art is an object seen under the eternal phase. And a good life is the world seen under the eternal phase. Herein lies the relationship between art and ethics.
Nothing needs an absolute God to guarantee an eternal phase. One only needs to feel and be moved by God for man. ......
The weak God is in the beauty of the weak. So that weak God has significance. So I say.
Now, receive. The God in this picture is an eternal phase. This impression is momentary, but eternal. And there is happiness: ......
You can only feel happiness with a weak God.
Because too much happiness is like too much alcohol
It makes one as drunk as too much alcohol. ......

Basically sca-ji's liberal watered down interpretation of this quote but I don't think he's quite getting at what wittgenstein is talking about. You need to understand wittgenstein's distinction between showing and saying to properly interpret what he's saying it. You should also keep in mind how he defines eternity view.
>if we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.
He isn't saying "life when you look at it holistically is just a collection of happy and unhappy moments, and both are intrinsic to living".
>The solution to the problem of life is to be seen in the disappearance of the problem. Isn’t this the reason why men to whom the meaning of life had become clear after long doubting could not say what this meaning consisted in?
Looking at art through this view was perfectly portrayed in zypressen where the mystical element in noaya's art exercise shows itself to rina and inspires her to become optimistic. Similarly, if how you are living is in certain harmony with your world, the good life shows itself to you, and the condition of death wouldn't bother you.
>Fear in the face of death is the best sign of a false, i.e. a bad life’
I think sca-ji does here exactly what wittgenstein was cautioning us against. Do you feel overwhelmed by your backlog?
Don't get me wrong, if I'm not enjoying enjoying a game I don't force myself to stick with it. I've accepted that if my memory is already fuzzy even on games I love then there's no sense in absorbing every word of a game I'm not enjoying and I'll either skip through a route or outright drop a game. But I just get so overwhelmed by how many games are available to me that even when I'm enjoying something I'm always distracted by other games I'm eager to play and will frequently start something new. 'The grass is always greener' kind of situation. When most games are 20-40 hours long each it's hard to finish one instead of it getting buried under other games. Long ago when I could only dream of playing games untranslated, and when English releases were few and far between, I enthusiastically consumed what I could. But now I feel so spoiled for choice that I can't focus because I can't get to everything I want to play fast enough. Anyone else experience this or manage to overcome it?

>Do you feel overwhelmed by your backlog?

Not really. I look at it more as a collection from which I can choose what to play. Or a collection of games I feel good about having. At this point it's unrealistic for me to think I'll actually play everything, do I don't expect to. That's how I managed to dodge your issue.

Same is true for normal games and their mods, for example. I really enjoyed Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom of example, but I dunno if I'll find another 150 hours to play either of them again. But I like knowing I got them backed up, along with a collection nice Linkle mods for BotW, so I can play as a cute girl next time, if I ever do. Some of her modded outfits are really nice.

If you didn't read today, or you didn't enjoy it, you didn't win, but there's always tomorrow.
Finishing VNs is fun and good and meaningful and worth doing and worth trying to do but it's really not worth worrying about.
If you really like a VN you'll read it over and over again, so whether you finish it today or next month or next year doesn't make a huge difference.

But I'll add that I do feel your issue about forgetting. I would like to 100% fully remember everything about games I loved, like Daitoshokan, Eustia, Dies Irae, Sakuuta etc., but ultimately, forgetting is natural. So I focus on enjoying things as I read/play them. I think "damn, this is really good and hopefully I'll remember a lot of it for a long time".

For Dies Irae, I played it in 2017 and even now I remember the best moments and enjoy seeing the guy in the last few threads post about them, for example.

Also I do feel like I got enough with my collection now. Which is what lead me to generally being content. I just need to do some finishing touches like getting nude mods for Resident Evil games and that's it. No obsessing about grabbing stuff, since I got enough.

I get that whole excitement and distractibility but there's no point in wasting time worrying, just read and enjoy things as they come and reread your favorites when you feel like it. If you want to jump ship to a different VN then just do it and come back to the other one later or force yourself to only read one at a time (as long as you read stuff you like). I find it helpful to keep track of my reading time each day because then instead of a nebulous feeling of "oh no I have so many VNs left to read that are all so long" I have a concrete representation of my progress through my backlog (time spent reading). I find myself jumping from title to title, until I find something that really engrosses me. A lot of eroge aren't bad outright, but they fail to be engaging. They very rarely give you something to look forward to. Usually the selling point is the heroines, but it especially sucks when the characters are likable but the writer is awful at making them shine. And bad pacing doesn't help either.

I think anyone who's played LxC2 will know what I mean when I say the author is obviously very well read, or at least well informed. What I've noticed in this game which I haven't noticed in many other moe games such as this is just the characters *knowing* things if that makes sense. Rather than being given an X state at the beginning of the game, and then all further interaction bouncing off that, the characters know things and that contributes to conversations.

For example, in the Seine route the mc asks her what she's listening to and she replies Dvorak, and they discuss classical music. Or they're watching a movie together and she mentions trivia about its development (Ghostbusters). Or the MC muses about why ants dont all drown in the rain and she explains the composition of anthills and how it prevents that.

Basically, the dialogue is just interesting and covers many topics beyond just whatever the "theme" of the game/character is (think astronomy in Hoshizora, or Misa talking about fish in Hoshi Ori). Not only that, but the characters also frequently think about a situation and produce a "philosophical" response rather than a knee jerk physical response. It's interesting and often quite profound, to the point I often had to push past my bias of "moege can't be smart" to really appreciate what was being said. In short, the writing is really smart and interesting.

I'll have to read more moege with this in mind to really pin it down, but for now I'm considering Insider the best moege author I've read (note: he's done non-moe works). So far his is the only moe games I've actually learned a lot from and enjoyed thoroughly beyond an emotional masturbation tool.

As a side note, the romance and relationship drama in this game is also pretty good (albeit with a significant focus on sex during the second half). The drama didn't feel forced and the relationship felt "real" - the characters don't fall for each other just because of The Hand of God like in many of these games, by which I mean there's "real" reasons they love each other which are the basis for the drama and character growth they experience. Which is always superior to some third-party bullshit butting in and causing "forced" drama.

All this said, I don't think Lovely Cation 2 is some kind of literary work or really something to read to seriously engage oneself. It's still a moege, it's just a well written one.

Finished Chiwa-chan's route in Sakura Moyu.

It's unfair. Why are these routes so good? Honestly, both Hiori and Chiwa routes could easily be true routes in some other game. That's how moving they are and how strong the stories are.

It's also really interesting how they complement each other. Makes you wish everything could be solved in the same route. I wouldn't mind Haru or Kuro being like that.

and it's done. between my trip to Japan and my shit Japanese it took me too long to read it. this route strghten my main issue I have with this novel: the lack of side characters. if you want to have a martial arts competition, you need to have more then the main heroines+ a few side characters. otherwise the world feels small. and this world feels really, really small. I don't get how they managed to make more games in this setting considering how barebones the world is for now. taht's the one thing Aokana has over this novel. Aokana got the whole spokon aspect much more fleshed out. Let's see if Saya's route will change my opinion.

His mom ended up being basically irrelevant anyway? I was hoping he would say smth to her at the end at least. Kasumi and Eri were also basically there to waste screen time and not survive anyway?
The Shiro+Bei screaming shit together was really epic thought, wish there was some kind of cg of them together. And him reaching his 渇望 at the end but still losing it in fact anyway was just way too dirty man just give bro a rest already
