I'm surprised hardly anyone has mentioned mead considering it's a major plot point.

It has a long and ancient history, going back to the ancient Romans. Pliny The Elder recorded it as "mulsa", a honey wine brewed by some of the stranger types from the north. It was most popular among those in Northern Europe, hence its association with Vikings. It's mentioned frequently in the Old English-language epic Beowulf, where many central scenes occur in the mead-hall.

Mead's flavor is similar to that of beer and sake, but zestier. Marisa criticizes it for being weak or "off". If it's brewed according to modern standards using an airlock, mead is quite excellent.

Older, more primitive forms of mead can be easily prepared with a plastic water bottle by pouring out some water, pouring in ~1/4 of the bottle worth of honey, adding a few raisins and some cinnamon, and then about an eighth of a packet of dry active yeast. Once this is done, close the water bottle cap just enough so it stays on without resistance, but not any more than that. Let sit in a cool, dry place for about a week. If you're drinking this form, use a straw to avoid dead yeast debris at the bottom (as the Sumerians did with their beer) and DRINK IT QUICKLY, it tastes quite vile! Perhaps this "quick-mead" is what Marisa had drank.
