Redpill is ancient internet slang (but mostly appropriated by incels nowadays) for being 'made aware' of something that is 'below the surface'. It originally comes from the hit 1999 scifi film The Matrix, where the main character Neo is presented with a choice... either choose the blue pill, and go back to a life of wilful ignorance, or take the red pill, and be pulled out of the Matrix and into the 'real' world of machine-dominated near extinction. Sort of how 'wide-awake' is akin to 'woke', it's about being made aware of something that's below popular conscience. It's a metaphor, basically, and you probably knew all of that, because a two-second search on urban dictionary or TVtropes or wherever else spits back the same result.

Well, I really meant in this specific context, because no matter how hard I try I can't parse how "redpilling" would work in regard to Touhou. There's no widespread conspiracy or hidden depths to the thing. Just play the games and read the print works. No pills required.

For me the biggest touhou redpill was realizing that Reimu is not an ally of humans, she's simply a cleaner who removes threats to the barrier and power balance in Gensokyo, humans and youkai alike. She casually eliminates new youkai that appear in human village, exorcises humans possesed by youkai (humans die in the proccess), she nearly killed the librarian girl Kosuzu when Kosuzu became too involved with youkai (she was only saved because Yukari realized Reimu's intentions and framed herself as the main culprit). When Marisa starts turning into a magician-type youkai like Alice, I'm afraid Reimu will attempt to kill her too, before this happens.

I've considered that as well, but I don't think she'll kill Marisa. If she wanted to kill magicians, she'd also have killed Patchouli and Alice already instead of having tea and cakey with them all the time. And probably would've killed Sakuya as well, who knows where that crazy bitch is from and how powerful she'd be if she became a youkai.
