What's a good Japanese keyboard for Android? I used to use Google Japanese Input, but I recently had to get a new phone, and it doesn't seem to be available anymore. I'm using Gboard right now (the intended replacement, as far as I can tell), but it doesn't give me Kanji or Katakana suggestions when I type Hiragana, making it pretty limited unless I use the handwriting feature.

It works on my phone. Are you using the IME layout or the 12-key layout?

12 key kana and QWERTY. It doesn't seem to give me any autocomplete suggestions in English or Japanese; it shows the suggestion bar, but it's completely empty outside of the letters I'm currently typing.

Anything that isn't gboard

Turn on flip key kana, you'll get used to it after a day or three

to add if you turn on suggestions like intended, you should get katakana replacements or kanji/phrase suggestions like you would anywhere else

what's wrong with gboard? I started using it the other day since it has the handwriting thing

I use Fcitx for Android with the Anthy plugin, Anon. Perhaps it could work for you:
