Are you using the official Minecraft launcher or something? If you're using Prism Launcher, PolyMC or UltiMC you have the option to import a modpack as a zip. Once you do that everything will be set up for you to join, including the mods and version!

The Crucible could have been left cooking for fucking hours, if we hadn't cleaned it with cheats the entire peninsula would be filled with rifts and taint
Definitely keep it around 100, that seemed to be the minimum I saw rifts spawn in

There are TWO important things that makes sven even more fun. There's a huge pack of skins posted in an earlier thread somewhere in the archive and there's a website that you can convert any image into a sven compatible spray. The first cross over of Touhou and Bungie's Marathon as far as I know.
Something I have recently finish, where I put Touhou sprites for players in a very good (I think) Marathon custom scenario. Sprites will change depend on the weapon that is equipped. It's similar to the DOOM games that were hosted sometime ago. Unlike DOOM however, this is limited to 8 players unfortunately.

I should be able host a co-op game this coming Saturday. I'll give the details to play later. Sorry to those that don't like FPS.

Gameplay wise they play just like them for the most part. Main difference to the vanilla Build/Doom engine games being is that there is a prominent physics system in this. Shots and explosions can knock and push enemies (and yourself) back. The the AI is a bit more dynamic and can be more aggressive. They have specific behavioral flags in the engine. This is per enemy, so you can have two identical enemies act differently. One can charge at you and shoot will the other hangs back and shoots, that sort of thing. It subtle for the most part, but it's there.

This usually leads to more methodical (slower?) play style. You can still run and gun, just have to be more mindful about it. Having friendly and infighting enemies is more of a thing. And has a story if you care about it. Some engine limitations can result in simple or very weird map design. Doom and those other games you listed are better games as a package and have held up better to time and support from their community. Marathon is a Doom clone with enough quirks thrown in that can make it distinctly better (interesting might be a better word here), or annoying at times. It's engine makes it a bit more unique, but is also limited by it. Somewhat due to the aforementioned lack of support and niche of it.

The creator is this scenario (Marathon Phoenix) was a very good map creator. He seemed to had a good understanding in what makes these types of old FPS fun or boring/frustrating if you listen to his commentary video. He wanted to create a more Doom approach in terms of design than the typical Marathon one. It's meant for veteran marathon players. It just so happens to make a fun (I think) co-op experience as well due to the amount of enemies there are, and the (relatively) simple maps design and objectives. It's action packaged for the most part.

Thanks for the really detailed reply! I enjoy the simplicity old fps games offer, there's an elegance to making your way through levels without worrying about fancy bells and whistles sometimes. Just a handful of weapons and pure level design.

I like the old Halo games for this exact reason. I wish we could play them pirated coop with more than 4 players with perhaps some Touhou models as well! Maybe there is a way that I don't know about yet. If it were possible I would probably want to edit the levels to have more things to shoot at and more weapons scattered about since there would be more people.

There is a beauty to blasting your way through legions of hellspawn while running at mach 3 that modern games lack.
It's why I still prefer DOS doom to windows. You can work around the bsp limitations these days pretty easily, and the whole game ends up looking cleaner and less cluttered as a result. Good level design shines within limited spaces though.

Not really as it should run on any system now. You will have to mess with the setting a bit. Particularly you will need to check off the option that returns your view direction to the center. Also decrease the mouse sensitivity a bit. Increase the FPS to 60 or 120fps with interpolation. You can turn on a aim cursor, but some pureist will tell you that's wrong. The FOV should not be greater than 90 FPS since it messes with the skybox without some fixes that is a separate download I believe. I recommend playing on "major damage" difficulty and then "total carnage" once you get a feel for it (if you familiar with these type of games). You can still use your most recent save when you change. Your fist does more a lot more damage if you get a running hit (which is not obvious at first).

I was working on making a touhou model for halo 1 and 2. But I lost interest and didn't seem worth the effort just to replace one model that can't be changed easily. Halo 3 wouldn't really work either since multiplayer player characters are just one base model with different permutations, and the chief is its own unique model. Good luck making elite animations work with a any humanoid model. Those guys are who you play in coop by default. I know all of this can be overcomed with some tricks in engine and map files (and most likey some scripting) to skirt the single model issue. But I just don't have the time right now.

The best game and probably easiest to implement touhou models is ODST. I believe the player models there are actually unique models for each character, with some permutations (i havent actually checked). So in theory you can swap the models with be just be done without having to without figure how not to have everyone play as Reimu. Maybe I'll check it out at somepoint, but not now.

In terms of just single player games, Ultrakill is very good at this, and it's the only game that made me want to repeat the level for better times and perfect score. Some levels are CBT when you're going for P-rank though.

Colony Ship can be a funny simple map in a co-op situation. Sort of like those Sven co-op obstacle maps where you have to help your buddy (or hinder if you're being smug) get to the other side. The map solo can be less frustrating if you know how to grenade jump. The original campaign might need a bit overhaul for co-op anyways. It all 3 do support 8 players without issue, but it can be a bit too barren on some maps if there is that many players. It would require is increasing enemy spawns, ammo, and weapons in a way that make some sense, which isn't all that hard. It would definitively be tedious though, since 50+ maps would need going over for all of Durandal and Infinity combined. Marathon 1 editing requires downloading/emulating old versions of MacOS and using old software on it, and I'm not willing to put up with that. In fact, I'm not willing to do a any of that at the moment. But maybe I'll put touhou sprites in the 2/3 campaign in the future.

Ah, I checked this just to make sure since this was the case. It wasn't. This depends on what is their given rank (Kinda like halo, blue elite/red elite). Some scenarios use the same exact enemies visually but just assigns them to different ranks, so i got confused a bit. Sorry!

I was thinking about it when this thread was made but I was busy that weekend.
Basically I got around to booting up my old save I had of my own modpack and it put me in front of the start of the Mugenkan I was building around six months ago before I got bored of it, and I got kinda nostalgic for the one I was making on the server.
If it's still there and I still have enough of my stuff to work on it again without having to start from scratch in making bricks and going to get more jasper, marble etc. I might come back again to see it to completion.
I'd have to take a look at the situation in person, but if nothing has changed since *that* day, at the very least I can turn the front door around or something and work around it. It's not ideal, but I do feel kinda bad just leaving a massive unfinished house at spawn given that I had gotten most of everything sorted out.
I'd still like to not have to do that, but at least now I'm not so pissed off that I don't want to even look at it.

Just installed that LOD render distance extender, tweaked the settings a bit until I got this.

I will host a game Marathon Phoenix with Touhou sprites this week on Saturday 8:00PM EST!. I'll give out the download on that day. It's a small download.
As reminder this only limited to 8 players. Once a game starts there is no join-in-progress unfortunately, and the host would need to back and remake a lobby again if they want players to join again. This usually mean the players will lose their weapons they had gathered (they are carried over from level to level), but the host can reload a save to when weapons were on hand, details below.

Note that levels don't have lobby screen at the end of of it. You are just send to the next level and the game continues until the end, or until the host leaves (There might be some jank and multiple sudden disconnects that may require rehosting a game) Alt-Q is default way to back out of a netgame.

If the game I host is full, then someone else would need go out of there way to make another if there is enough interest. It's pretty simple but there is some messing about. You will need to have a UPnP capable router OR port forward traffic for TCP and UDP on port 4226 on your router and computer. Don’t forget to configure and accept connections for "Aleph One.exe" through your firewall. You can create a room by selecting "Gather network game" and will get prompted to select some stuff. There, under the Netscript section, select "Basic Co-op 1.2.lua" that inside the folder "basic-coop-1.2_Phoenix Touhou Co-op Edit" (this folder is will be provided in my download and will need to be moved in the AlephOne Folder in your Documents, if you plan to host. The AlephOne folder will be created once you run the game once.). To host a game from a saved state, select "Continue from saved game" in the menu and select that last co-op save you have. You will get the prompt to host a net game again.

Before joining I recommend selecting your player name in the options, as it defaults to what ever your computer name is. When you join, select the chat option (click on above the chat box) and change it to "internet" to "joins" else you will talking to a usually empty, but not always, public lobby.

Level changes are done through terminals in a teleport areas. I'm letting know because anyone can initiate level change once all objectives are complete, which may be sudden if someone blitzes through it. Terminals will tell you directly if there is a level change when it says "transport when ready" or "go into the teleporter next to here" or something to that effect. Pic related an as an example. If you see that, press the Esc key instead of Enter or arrow keys. You will back out of the terminal without moving on. Nobody can stop you, but you may want to wait for the others.

Again, I will give the download on the day its hosted, a few hours before I host.

For some reason MC 1.12 runs on Java 8 still, which normally can allocate up to ~1.5GB.

Go and download some FPS mods, like the dynamic culler and that one that reduced the memory usage magically.
It's a real sign that someone should fix something when an external patch to change the rendering algorithmns still saves significant resources.

I get 4k60 ultra on most games I play, so didn't need to upgrade really. It's rather microsoft's fault I can't even get 60 fps here, when in 2016 I was getting 300 fps with my R7 240.

Anyway, Immersive Engineering and Thaumcraft are the two big players in this modpack, most anons that join are shy and just play by themselves, but if you want more of a modded experience then you'll want to dabble in those two
IE adds (sufficiently) realistic Engineering to the game, and TC adds Magic. The latter is easier to start with but demands more grind down the line, the former may take a while to get completely
In the server, the Kappas live up North of Spawn and pretend they're playing Factorio. The Magicians live down South deep in the woodlands of a Magical Forest and sometimes create horrors beyond comprehension
