Reposting from last thread since it died quickly.

Murloc here. It’s been a great year for monstergirl content. Despite the drama in the threads, I’ve been really excited to see the increase in stories and writers. I am really grateful that Magus created the 2022 writing contest, and I thought it was a ton of fun and did a lot to encourage new writers. I was especially happy that some of these new writers continued writing throughout the year.

In that spirit, I am happy to announce that I have several commissions lined up with Yerb and Skai to offer as prizes for the 2023 contest! The grand prize will be one full Skai piece. In addition, I plan on offering up to five Yerb commissions for any NEW writers that choose to participate.

As the primary focus of this contest is to encourage new and/or inexperienced writers, this contest will be limited in who can participate. Participants are expected to post on AO3 and adhere to all thread rules including but not limited to:

NO: NTR, murderhobo, furry, monsterboy, edgy bullshit, politics, or general garbage.

In addition: Stories must be COMPLETE to qualify for the grand prize (cough). You WILL adhere to the sprit of MGE, but are not necessarily required to write explicitly in that setting (Fantasy vs MGC). There is also no requirement for where the story should sit on the hugbox/grimdark setting as long as you adhere to these rules. With that said, keep in mind that everyone has different tastes and going too far in either direction may alienate readers.

I reserve the right to disqualify and story written in bad faith with the intention of causing more drama.

The deadline for submission is December 31st. I really hope that some of you that have sat on the fence about trying your hand at writing give it a shot. I also hope that some of you that participated last year but did not continue for any reason find motivation to try again. Do it for yourself. Do it for the many readers looking for a bit of joy. Do it to make the world we love just a bit more real for an evening.

As far as the new writers, no hard length requirements, but I think 4-10k is a great goal. Whatever you're comfortable with. For the more experienced authors, that's a good question that I didn't think of. I think anywhere around 15-22k? Seems like 20k is a pretty common size for the more experienced writers one-offs. That said, I'm not planning on disqualifying anyone over it. I just want a reasonably level playing field for all skill levels.
If anyone has thoughts or criticism on how to structure this, please share.
