From what I've read (and watched), Japanese are contemptuous of foreign otakus(similar to how people view a furrys/bronys with disgust).
Anyways is this true?

On Okinawa I was often coming to local shop/bar/skatepark and talked to the bartenders, because I came early in the day there wasn't anyone else. They were to stoked to hear that I watched an anime or another and we talked a bit about manga as well.
