I have literally never once in my life seen anyone ever say "I dislike PC98". Not because they're perfect games, fuck no, but because most of the opinion on PC98 is they're either good games or people never actually played them. Or I guess the age old "feels too old" thing that shows up all the time, but that's less of an insult at the thing in question and more of a insult at the processes of said medium at the time. Which is still stupid but it's a stupid that I think everyone can understand on some level.

Nobody played PC-98 outside of Japan. The only one I don't like HRtP because I've always been shit at Breakout/ shooting-physics games and Reimu has a bunch of special moves I don't remember when I need them. The rest are perfectly fine. I really liked PoDD.

I 'hate' PC98 because I still can't get lotus land story to fucking run properly. Every. Single. PC98 emulator, none seem to be able to handle it. Maybe Yuuka is growing flowers inside my laptop or something, but no matter what I do or how much memory I assign to it it's a laggy and unplayable mess. The other pc98 games work fine, but LLS specifically I've never been able to beat.

It's a bit of a shame as it's the one game besides th8 that I wanted to beat on lunatic.

NP21 works fine for me, even on default settings.
I've heard that LLS and MS really need around 40x 2.5MHz, and slightly expanded memory, but nothing like that should happen if you aren't on the extra stage or whatever.
Maybe you've assigned too much memory and it's eating up your actual resources needlessly, RAM isn't the be all and end all of performance after all.
