How much does the knowledge of Japan's war crimes affect your enjoyment of Japanese niche media, as the otakus you are? Isn't it in your opinion offputting if not repulsive that a nation which now puts on a debonair and quasi-pacifist facade used to slaughter and conduct inhumane experiments on her East Asian neighbors up until 60 years ago?

They are the only nations that got off with less than a slap on the wrist, despite the plethora of evidences showing to what extremes they willingly went in their state-sanctioned atrocities.
Other nations suffered heavy penalties, but not Japan. And this only contributed to strengthen and polarize their insane nationalism.

>> No.4467258

Im very much against judging a whole nation and everything its people do just because of their governments etc. faults. Even more so if the wrongdoings happened in the past.

Of course past things have affected the world, but that doesnt mean I should dislike a nation because it did bad things a long time ago. I dont like to think of humans as groups called ''nations'' anyway, its not like every Japanese person slaughtered people back then.

This has no bearing at all on the discussion. They might have not been born yet at the time, but it would be foolish to say the atrocities and racism their forefaters committed with zeal back then and the subsequent full pardon Japan got from the Allies aren't a contributing factor to the ultranationalist worldview most Japanese hold today. A worldview which, in my opinion, is utterly despicable and revolting.

>slap on the wrist

But to address the OP's question; the knowledge that a number of nations committed appalling war crimes in WWII (and that many nations still commit attrocities) does little to affect my view of a nation's populace or culture. The idea that the people of a nation as a whole can be held responsible for their leadership -- especially when it is tyrannical --is at the very least ridiculous and at most incredibly stupid.

>Mongolia

It might interest you to know that many Mongolian tribes that took part in the invasions of Asia and Europe eventually decided to permanently settle in the occupied territories rather than go back to their homelands.
Nowadays Russians and Asians from the Near Easts aren't exactly known for being the least bloodthirsty populations on Earth, which proves that even actions done centuries ago leave a lasting mark on the mindset of people.

Aaand we have come full circle at last. On another note, said crimes were committed by civilians turned soldiers, sometimes even on their on free will and without prior orders from their higher-ups. There are hundreds of accounts showing this and many others proving that murdering neighboring populaces was no more regrettable than killing a cat for fun.

What!? People murder each other? Gosh, who knew. Go bring up a few legitimate statistics that show even a fifth -- nah, let's make it especially pointed and say a tenth -- of the murders committed by Japanese as being based on race, then an argument can be made for there being something reprehensible about them.

Of course then you'd have to go to even further lengths and look at all nations, bring up their populaces for comparison, and display that the Japanese are among the most racially murderous in the world.

Otherwise you're just telling me "boo hoo, bad people did bad things," and son, that shit is going on right now. Everything being relative, 60 years ago and not my people means I'm not strongly disposed toward anything.

sage for trollan.
