Yamame let my mind wander for about three seconds, then let out a long and drawn out groan and flopped down on my chest. Her hair, untied, flopped all over my face and tickled my nose. I forced myself not to sneeze. "Ugh..." She mumbled, her head nestled into my shoulder, "I'd like to say that, but I feel absolutely awful right now." I asked her how bad it was. "Youkai don't recover from spiritual attacks very fast...Especially not ones from the Shrine Maiden's gohei..." She sounded absurdly sleepy all of a sudden, and I put my hands on her back in case she suddenly rolled off of me and awkwardly hit the floor. "I guess you could say it's like a human getting stabbed." That sounded concerningly deadly, so I asked her if she was okay. "I'll be fine...just takes a lot of energy. I'll just be absolutely exhausted or a while.”

That sounded normal enough for me to handle, so I told her that I'd be taking care of her tonight.

She managed to raise her head and look at me. "Really? That's...not necessa-Whoa!" I hadn't even waiting for her to finish talking before I'd pushed myself up into a seated position, rolled the spider girl into a position from which I could carry her, and forced myself up to my feet. Yamame's arms immediately wrapped around my neck, and I was surprised to see her looking quite startled. "Th-That's, um, really nice. Just...warn me first. Spiders scare easily." I apologised, then laid her down on the bed. She'd been curled up on the floor, and I could tell that she hadn't moved much since she'd fallen there. I asked her why she hadn't been in bed. "It's...a thing. A spidery thing. I wanted an enclosed space. I was under the bed until you came blundering in." I asked her if lying on the floor underneath the bed would really help her get better. "Well, it makes me feel better." She muttered.

She sniffed. "Is that...meat? Did you bring food?" I said that I'd thought to try and cook her something, in part to take the burden off of her, and in part because I wanted to thank her for everything she'd done for me. Yamame giggled and tried to sit back up, but let out a pained gasp and sank back into the bed. I told her that I would make it, so she just had to lay here and rest. "And leave you free reign over my kitchen? No, no, I'm coming with you." She tried a second time, and managed to hold herself up on her hands for about a second before falling backwards again. I pushed a hand under her back and helped her lift herself off of the bed slowly. "...Thanks." She said quietly. I reminded her that I was taking care of her, so it would be bad if she injured herself more in the process. I went to take her hand, but realised that it was the one she had used to slap Reimu's gohei away. It looked scarred, like she'd burnt it, and if the way she was trying not to use it was any indication, it hurt terribly. I let my hand drop awkwardly, feeling rather sad. Instead, I went straight to Yamame's kitchen.

Yamame stumbled in behind me, leaning against the wall, but managed to drag herself to the counter when she spotted the bags I'd carried in. "Ooh, I knew you had good taste." She said appreciatively, rifling through the bags with one hand. "I can't really get in and out of the village these days, not since that joyless excuse for a Buddhist spread all those rumours about me." I hadn't heard about that. "I...look, I was in a poor state of mind and made a stupid decision. Instead of helping me, or at least turning me away quietly, she loudly kicked me out and told everyone what I did in the worst way she could. What kind of Buddhist is that?" I asked her slowly what she had actually said. Yamame looked at me balefully, like she really wished I hadn't. "I may have said that I wanted to join the temple because the humans with all of their worries looked delicious." She finally mumbled. I stared at her for a moment, then found myself laughing. It was just such a strange thing to do, even if the head monk had probably been a little justified in sending her away. "I- Look, it was a lapse of judgment, okay?" Still laughing, I pulled her into a hug. She stiffened for a moment, but relaxed before long. I'd long since made peace with the idea that she was a youkai. It was just a fact of nature.

Once I'd calmed down, I released her and began to pull out various ingredients from the bags. I asked her how she preferred her food, since I'd never had the opportunity to eat with her before. She thought for a moment. "Hmm...coat the meat in a mixture of...this, this and this," She said, pulling some cayenne pepper, shichimi togarashi, and onions sauce from the bag. "Then fry it. I should have enough oil left. The kappa produce it, you see. They've got rapeseed growing somewhere in the mountains." I nodded. "And...steam the vegetables. The rice, too." That all sounded simple enough to me. "I heard about a recipe from the outside world once. I think it was just called a meat bowl, but the idea seemed simple enough. Meat, on top of rice with an egg and a secret sauce. Wasabi, too." She looked and the bag again. "Oh, and you have wasabi. Good." I got to work on chopping the vegetables, then followed Yamame's instructions to heat the fire in the kitchen so I could begin to heat up the oil in the frying pan. I quickly coated the meat in the various spices, and began frying it in the pan while Yamame slowly set up the steamed vegetables and the rice, using one hand. I asked Yamame how well I should cook the meat, and wasn't all that surprised when she said she preferred it on the rare side. I was surprised at how smoothly the process went. We both moved about the small kitchen without stumbling into each other, and the simple meal was finished in no time at all. I made a sauce by mixing the cayenne pepper with the onions sauce, which I poured over the meat.

I divided the food into two bowls, adding a small lump of wasabi on the top of both cuts of meat, and passed one bowl to Yamame. She took it with her good hand. "My, you're a surprisingly good cook." I tried not to take offense at the word 'surprisingly'. Instead, I took a bite. While I typically preferred meat to be slightly more cooked, I couldn't deny that the simplicity added to the food in a satisfying way. "Wow. This is good." Yamame mumbled. "I might just have to keep you here. You can cook for me every day." I laughed a little. She remained quiet for the rest of the meal and had finished before I was even halfway through. I supposed that with the energy toll she was experiencing to heal, it must have left her hungrier than normal. I noticed that Yamame was eyeing my bowl, and possibly starting to drool a little, so I asked her if she wanted to finish my portion too. I supposed that she was hungrier than I thought, because she didn't even pretend to say no, taking the bowl and setting it on her lap so she could use her good hand to eat. Within minutes, the rest of my portion was finished too, and she sighed happily. "Oh, that's so much better..." I smiled at that and took the bowls back to the kitchen so I could wash them up later.

When I returned, I saw Yamame struggling to stand, the happiness replaced with pain. I rushed to her side and took her good hand, placing my other arm around her back and helping her up. I asked her if she wanted to lie back down, and she nodded slowly. Supporting her, I helped her lie back down on the bed. Once she was situated, she spoke. "Listen..." She trailed off, looking away from me, and I asked her what it was she wanted. "Can I...ask a favour?" Of course, I said. I'd promised to take care of her, after all. She was growing slightly red. "In the bathroom, there's, um, a cream. It's supposed to help with spiritual wounds." I nodded, getting up from the bed and opening the other door from the main room. The bathroom was smaller than the one at the Hakurei Shrine, but I spotted the small pot quickly, and seeing nothing else that it could be, carried it back to Yamame. She nodded when she saw it. "Yeah, that's the one. It's...from Eientei." She looked worried about the effect her words might have on me, but I merely shook my head and sat down on the bed next to her. Eientei may have done horrible things to me, but they still did provide medicine, so I didn't blame her or anything. I looked at the cream, then back at Yamame. She was looking at me now, but I could see the blush on her face. The next thing she said was so quiet it could barely be called a whisper. "Could you...help me?" I could feel the silence ringing in my ears following her words, and I knew I'd said yes before I'd even realised it.

Yamame breathed out slowly. "Where the Shrine Maiden hit me..." She murmured. I looked down at her body. She lay in the bed with her arms laid back by her head, and her legs stretched out. Her shirt was riding slightly up on her hips, and I could see just the barest hint of skin between it and the top of her shorts. I thought about where Reimu had attacked. Slowly, I placed the cream on the bed next to me and, watching Yamame the whole time, brought my hands to the lowest button of her shirt. The second my hands made contact, I felt a shiver run through her. I looked into her eyes, and she nodded.
I undid the first button. Yamame's breath hitched when my hand pressed against her bare skin. She was hot to the touch, and I could feel the heat of her skin when I slid my hand upward slightly. For a moment, I forgot about what I was supposed to be doing. I just wanted to stare at her and feel her body. "Are you...going to continue...?" She whispered, and I snapped out of it. I slid my hand up her navel, pressing down just enough to feel the motion of her breath, then went to the next button. I undid this one, spreading the sides of her shirt and revealing more of her stomach. She wasn't as thin as I'd thought. When I cast an eye down toward her shorts, it occurred to me that, being a spider, she was probably rather muscular underneath the softness of her skin. Her thighs looked especially strong. With both my hands, I ran my fingers over her stomach and placed them on her sides. She was very soft. Gently, I pulled her closer to me. Now, her hair was splayed all over the bed, her breathing had become slightly heavier, and her good hand had closed into a fist. Staring into her eyes, I ran my hands back up her navel and took hold of the third button. As I undid this one, I started to see it. Across her ribcages, a patch of scarred skin. It ran through a larger area than I'd have expected from the way the gohei had hit her, and my fingers traced the edges of it without touching it. "Youkai heal faster than humans, but...this is the trade-off." Yamame whispered. I couldn't see the full extent of it, so I placed my hands on the final button. I looked up and Yamame and she looked back, and gave me a small smile. I undid the button, and the shirt fell open.

She wasn't wearing a bra. I tried not to imagine my own blush, but I could feel the way my cheeks were burning as I saw her chest shift as she took in a deep breath, then shift back as she slowly exhaled. Instead, I turned my attention to the scarring, which ran from her ribcage on the left around her side. It was more than I thought a single stick could cause, and I wondered about just how powerful the weapons of the Hakurei Shrine Maiden were. I groped about on the bed for the small pot of cream, opening it and dipping my fingers in. I emerged with a large dollop of cream on my fingers. I spread it over my hand, and with my other hand braced against her stomach, I brought my hand into contact with the scarring. I heard Yamame's breath catch as the coldness of the cream hit her skin, and I felt her abdominal muscles tense under my other hand. After a moment, she slowly relaxed, the harder muscle under my hand fading back into the soft skin. Slowly, I spread the cream, trying to work it into as much of the scarring as possible. "Th-That...feels good..." Yamame murmured between heavy breaths. I pressed my hand against the scarred skin slightly harder and was amazed to see Yamame let out something of a whine, her back arching slightly into my hand. She sunk back into the bed after a second, panting. "Your hands...feel very nice." She said quietly. I pulled my hand off of her flushed skin and dipped it back in the pot for some more of the cream. This time, Yamame drew in a breath between clenched teeth as my hand pressed into the skin. This time, I pressed slightly heavier, and Yamame's voice went up a pitch. I traced the edge of the scarring again, with the tips of my fingers, and Yamame rewarded me by shuddering beneath me. "C-Can I...see your scars?" She mumbled, pressed her head against her pillow and screwing her eyes shut. I finished rubbing in the current bit of cream and pulled my upper wear off, exposing my upper body to the cool air of Yamame's house. "I guess we match now, huh?" She whispered, raising her good hand and running it across my burn wounds. She raised it up to my shoulder and arm, where Rumia had torn apart most of the skin and muscle. I shakily nodded. The scars had led me here, in a sense. If I hadn't gotten them, I might never have been on that path that day. I might never have fallen into that hole, and I might never have met Yamame Kurodani.

I took the pot and shifted myself into the bed, beside Yamame. I took another load of the cream, smeared it over my hand, and gently took her bad hand. I interlocked our fingers and worked the cream into her digits, then I took my other hand and used it to hold her bad hand still while I worked it into the palm and back of her hand. I tried to treat it like a massage, which I think she liked. After a few minutes, I felt like I'd put enough of the cream on to cover everything. I asked Yamame if she felt better. She smiled at me, our heads practically touching. "Much better." She whispered, leaning forward and kissing me. I let her, and after a few minutes, she pulled away. "The scarring will fade. I wish I could do something about yours, but..." I told her it was okay. I could live with the scars.

Yamame painfully rolled to her side, bringing herself even closer to me. She wrapped her arms around me, pressing her bare chest into my own. I buried my face in her hair, breathing in deeply. I felt her hands slide down, gripping my waist. "You've gone up my shirt now, Mr. Homewrecker." She looked at me with a wicked smile. "And I’m a little hot and bothered. I think I need to cool down, so how about we start with my shor-" She was interrupted, cruelly and completely predictably, by the muffled sound of her front door opening. I almost broke into laughter at the way her face fell.

I heard Nai's voice from outside. "Big Sister, are you-"

This time, Yamame seemed to have had enough. "Nai, if you open that door, I am not going to speak to you for a week!" She yelled, the frustration clear in her voice.

"B-But, Big Sis-"

"Two weeks!"

There was no response, but I heard the sound of Nai trudging away and the door closing again. Yamame groaned, burying her head into my chest. "What is it with you? This can't just be your luck. I'm taking us both to see that misfortune god when I'm well." I asked her what she'd been about to say. She opened her mouth, then closed it again. "No, I'm not tempting fate anymore. One day, I'll finally get you all to myself. And," She suddenly wrapped her leg around me, pressing her whole body against mine, "When I'm through, you won't even remember your own name." That sounded ominous, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't entirely on board with it. I pet her head and kissed her on the forehead, then told her that I'd look forward to it. She smiled. "Are you tired?" She asked me. I was, somehow. I supposed it was a combination of all the running around I'd been doing lately and having to carry Reimu and Yamame around. "Sleep here." She murmured. I asked her if she didn't want a more enclosed space, and she pulled the covers over both of us. "Plenty enclosed." she whispered, biting at my neck once more.

I was asleep in minutes.

I awoke to a pressure in my neck. I tried to groggily slap my hand against it but found that I was struggling to move. I blinked several times, until the fuzziness in my vision had mostly receded, and I was staring at a wall. The pressure in my neck was still there, and I couldn't quite turn my head. I could see blonde hair at the edge of my field of vision, which helped narrow down what was happening. I looked down and found that the reason I couldn't move properly was because Yamame had at some point lifted me up so she could wrap both her arms and legs around my upper body, and as a result, I was essentially held entirely in place. Now that my faculties were working properly, I started to put together the neck issue. Lifting my head and rolling it, I was able to dislodge what was very clearly Yamame's head. She mumbled something incoherent, then tightened her limbs around me and immediately began gnawing at my neck again. She wasn't breaking through, but fortunately didn't seem to be biting hard enough to break her own teeth again, either. It didn't take an expert to tell that she was fast asleep and wouldn't be waking up any time soon. I'd long since accepted that I was her favourite chew-toy, so it wasn't like I hated what was happening, but I did wish she'd faced me the other way so I could at least stare at something other than a blank wall.
My back felt oddly hot, and I twitched a little when I remembered the events of yesterday. Yamame's bare chest was pressing against my back. That's why I was so hot. I swallowed heavily, which must have caused some sort of microscopic movement in my neck, because Yamame mumbled something appreciatively, and then I began to feel something running down my neck, which I'd soon identified as saliva. Yamame was beginning to drool, and at that point, I decided that I should probably wake her up. I then realised that with all my limbs restricted, I really had no way of doing that. I tried to rotate my head again, but this time it just made Yamame bury her head in deeper. On the plus side, she wasn't biting anymore, but now she was even deeper entangled with me.
I considered my options. My right hand had gone number and seemed to be trapped under me, but my left hand was pressed against something soft and warm. I decided to poke it, and Yamame jolted, but didn't wake up. I tried a second time, and she let out a long groan into my neck. Now thoroughly mystified, I poked the softness a third time. "Mmhm..." She moaned. "Thas' nice..." She didn't sound all the way awake, but it was a start, so I went for a fourth poke. "O-Oh!" She shivered, one that travelled all the way up her spine. "Just what are you...?" She finally released her grip on me enough for me to turn my head enough to see what exactly I was doing, and I froze.
At some point, Yamame's shorts had come unbuttoned. I couldn't explain how it had happened, but my left hand had somehow found its way inside, possibly because they were quite baggy in the first place. I looked down noting with some pleasure the band of what looked to be silk running across her hips. It was her underwear. my hand was pressed against her underwear. I might have made some noise. I think Yamame might have, too. I'm not really sure, because the next thing I remember was Yamame forcing me onto my back and rolling herself on top of me. She pressed a long, deep kiss on me. "Why must you do this to me?" She whined as she broke the kiss. "Here I am, trying my absolute best to restrain myself, and you - you just keep on doing these things that get me all worked up!" She shifted back, across my chest, until she was sitting on my lap. I tried to get her attention, but she was ranting now, bouncing slightly on my lap. It was causing some hypnotic things to happen to her chest. She was completely ignoring me. "You show up, all tasty-looking, make me nice food and give me the nicest massage I've ever had, then you still just - just..." She trailed off. She looked down. Her mouth formed a perfect 'O'.
I wouldn't disrespect Yamame enough to say it was just a physical response. But regardless, I knew Yamame could feel something between her legs now. My self-control was completely evaporating, and I used the last of it to very slowly, very carefully, tell Yamame that she had better move before anything happened. She looked at me, with something in her gaze that I couldn't identify in my present state of mind. "...Make me." She whispered. And that was enough.

My hands shot to her hips, forcing her down against me. She giggled a little. "I didn't think you had it in you." I didn't answer, because I was too busy forcing my hands up her hips, then up her sides. I pushed her arms up as I slid the open black shirt off, hurling it to the side. She shivered slightly when my hands slid past her armpits, then placed her hands on my chest. "What's your next plan?" She murmured. I hooked my hands into the lower buttons of her shorts, pulling and twisting until they came loose. The top of her shorts parted, and I could see the purple and black of her underwear
underneath. I couldn't get the shorts all the way off like this. I needed more. I needed-
"Big Sister!" The door banged open, and Yamame jumped atop me, which sent some delightful sensations through me. She didn't look particularly delighted. In fact, she looked something approaching furious. Nai had frozen almost the second she'd stepped in the room, her mouth hanging open. "I-I...Uh- I mean, um, you-" She tried, failing several times.
"Nai." Yamame's voice was as cold as ice. "What did I say about opening the door?"
Nai shook her head, now looking everywhere except at the bed. "But there's-"
"I warned you, Nai!" Yamame looked back at her sister. "I'm getting a little sick of these interruptions!"
Nai looked completely crestfallen. "B-But it's important!"
"What?" Yamame growled. "What could be so bloody important?" That...hadn't been the wording I'd expected from her. Where had she picked that up?
"I-It's just, um, the kasha, from the Old City!" That got me to raise my head and redirected some vital blood for other regions to my brain. Rin Kaenbyou? What was she doing here?
"Oh, for the love of- Out with it, Nai!" Yamame finally hopped off of my lap, scooped up her shirt from the ground where I'd tossed it, and shoved her arms through it. She was fumbling with the buttons of her shorts when Nai spoke up again.
"She asked to see him!" Nai cried, pointing at me. I pushed myself up on my elbows and slowly asked if she was sure. "Yes!" She all but yelled. "She said her master needs to speak with him!" I swallowed slowly. Satori Komeiji wanted to speak with me. I hadn't forgotten how our last encounter had ended, even if the end result was mostly positive. I felt a shiver run through me, and unlike before, this one didn't feel at all good. "S-So, um, please don't ignore me, Big Sister..."
Yamame huffed, looking over at me. "What do you think?" She asked. I looked at Nai, who was staring at the ground. I felt a little frustrated with her interruptions as well, but I could also tell that she really did look up to Yamame. I finally told Yamame that I thought she had learnt her lesson. "Hmm, I suppose so. Nai, I'll forgive you, but please, learn some self-restraint." Nai looked up, significantly happier, and Yamame rewarded her with a pat on the head using her good hand. "Alright, off you go. I'll see to this." She pointed at me. Nai looked at me, then blushed scarlet and was gone in a flash. "That girl will burst in and shock me to death at this rate." Yamame sighed. "Once again, We've been interrupted right at the good bit. It'd be funny if it wasn't so depressing." She extended a hand and pulled me off of the bed, only to then groan and clutch at her ribs. I caught her before she could stumble too far back and asked her if she was okay. "No, not really..." She mumbled. I gently shifted the shirt to the side so I could see the scarring. It looked...better, if only a little. Her hand was the same, the scarring stretching across the back from where she had forced the gohei away. "The cream helps, but it's not a miracle worker. I'm still going to be too weak for...at least for a few more days." I sighed heavily. "By the way, how's the Shrine Maiden doing?" I looked up, curiously. I wouldn't have expected the question. "Oh, don't look at me like that. I'm still upset with her, but it's not like I hate her or anything. She's always hated me for supposedly spreading disease, even though I only do it in self-defence. I attacked her without thinking and I do feel a little bad." I said that Reimu wasn't all that different to her. She was extremely weak and had a bad fever, but I thought she would pull through fine. "Tell her..." She frowned in thought. "Oh, never mind. I don't know. She did destroy all my sister's webs. Again." I shrugged and reminded her that I'd done that too. "Yes, but I like you. There's a difference."

I liked Reimu, too. Not in the same way, but I didn't want to keep hiding Yamame from Reimu. I wanted everyone to get along. I sighed, then told Yamame that I should probably go. "I wish I could come with you, but I'd probably be more of a hinderance than a help right now. Just...take care, okay?" I nodded solemnly, then turned to leave. "Whoa, forgetting something?" I turned, asking what she meant, and she wrapped an arm around my neck and kissed me again. Then, she handed me my clothes. "Much as I like seeing you topless, it's probably best not to make it a habit, hmm?" I laughed, pulling the clothes back on. "Oh, one last thing. My injured hand isn't my drawing hand, so as soon as I can, I'm getting back to some sketches for your clothes." I smiled widely and thanked her, and she escorted me to the door.
I left the house, and Nai told me that Orin was waiting at the tunnel entrance. She still wouldn't look at me, though I couldn't say I blamed her considering what she'd walked in on. I started walking through the tunnels, wondering just what Satori Komeiji could want with me this time. She'd asked to see me, rather than the other way around. I rubbed at my head, thinking about all the missing pieces in my memory, and all the unanswered questions bouncing around my head. I turned into the main cave leading back toward the entrance, deep in thought.
I blame this for the fact that I didn't hear the tap-tap-tap of footsteps until something barrelled into me, sending me sprawling to the ground. "What the- Hey, it's you! Come on, come on, don't just sit there!" Someone grabbed my hand, and then I was being dragged along the cave floor at speed. "Get up!" The voice yelled, echoing in the dark tunnel, and I managed to just about stumble to my feet. Blue hair whipped my face, and I smelt peaches. "Those oni really didn't like my keystone trick! They've been chasing me the whole way back!" I tried to keep my footing and look behind me, and even through the gloom, I thought I could see shapes moving in the darkness. I could hear shouts, now that I was listening. I think I might have even heard Yuugi Hoshiguma. "If we get out of the caves, they won't follow!" I decided that I wasn't suicidal enough to tangle with an oni, so I put my focus into running instead. "Keeping up with a celestial!? Nice, nice!" Miss Tenshi was still dragging my by the hand, but I hadn't fallen back over, so I counted it as my win.

Before long, I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and in moments we were out in open air. I thought I saw a flash of red hair and remembered that Orin was supposedly waiting for us at the entrance. Unfortunately, I remembered this right as Miss Tenshi and I collided with her, sending all three of us tumbling down the slope from the tunnel. I hadn't the slightest idea what was happening, but the shouts I was now hearing from the other two girls informed me that neither were particularly pleased. I rolled to a stop, staring at the sky and wondering how long it would take to stop spinning, then felt a foot nudge my side. "Is he dead?" I heard Orin ask. "I hope he's dead, sis." She said, presumably to Miss Tenshi. "I've got a wheelbarrow with his name on it." I groaned, and Orin echoed it. "Damn it." She muttered under her breath. "Miss celestial, please pick...him...up." I felt Miss Tenshi grab he and hoist me to my feet. I blinked several times, hoping the ground would stop shifting.
"Are you okay? Do you have brain damage?" I heard Miss Tenshi asking me. I squinted, trying to make her face come into focus, and after a few moments, I succeeded. For the first time since I'd met her, she was dirty. Her clothes were singed and smelt like smoke, and there were ashes smudged on the tip of her nose. "Coming across me right then? You really do have divine luck, don't you?" I mumbled that I wasn't sure about that. "So...why were you there? Actually, why are you here, kasha?"
"Orin. O~rin." Orin repeated. "I'm here because I can't disobey one of Lady Satori's commands." She looked at me, her nose wrinkling slightly. "No matter how distasteful." I guess she still hated me, then. "Why's an ex-celestial in the underground, sis?" No questions for me. I felt an odd sense of Déjà vu, and noted Miss Tenshi's click of the tongue in annoyance at the labelling of 'ex-celestial'.
"Meeting an old friend, kasha. Then meeting a newer one in the tunnel." I finally managed to get my head back together, and asked Orin if she was taking me to see Satori Komeiji. "That mind-reader? Ugh, and I was so thankful that she wasn't there, too."
"Lady Satori wishes to speak to him, sis." Orin said to Miss Tenshi. "I won't let insults against her slide, though. Watch your tongue." The last words were much sharper. "Come, come." She said to somewhere over my left shoulder.
I looked at Miss Tenshi, who shrugged. "I'll come, if you want. Might be fun." I felt some relief and gratefully accepted. I didn't want to face a mind-reader alone.
Orin didn't look inclined to take my inability to fly into consideration, so I was forced to let Miss Tenshi carry me. It wasn't the worst, I supposed, even if it was a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps I'd have to ask Marisa if she had a way to let me fly. We flew over the trees, in the direction of the Shrine. I wondered how Reimu was doing, but knew that I'd have to deal with Satori Komeiji first. As we approached the Shrine, I heard Miss Tenshi grumble something about the destruction of her flawless work, but I couldn't really hold a conversation while dangling in the air, so I decided to let it slide. We touched down, and I managed to stay on my feet. I looked around, happily seeing no evidence of another party held at the Shrine, which was good for Reimu's recovery. Orin hadn't waited for me, unsurprisingly. She stood at the veranda, by the door leading to one of the Shrine's other rooms. I knew there was another table in there, but since Reimu always used the table in her room, it was mostly left empty. "You may enter, Miss ex-celestial." She didn't say anything to me, but I pulled the door open regardless.
"Ah, if it isn't my favourite bundle of trauma." Satori Komeiji said, spreading her arms wide from across the table. "I do hope my dear pet didn't give you too much trouble. Take a seat, please." I slowly sat opposite her, trying to ignore the way her third eye narrowed. Miss Tenshi remained standing, leaning against the wall. "Not quite my usual haunts, but it will do." She said, gesturing around the room. "Now then, shall we get started?"

I didn't really want to be here. Satori Komeiji looked at me with an annoyed expression. "You think I do? If a certain Shrine Maiden hadn't delayed a very important investigation over a squabble with a spider, I wouldn't be here at all." I decided not to resp- "No, I'd rather you didn't. You're just as guilty, after all." I opened my mouth, then closed it again as I thought about the events that had caused that little incident. "No - Don't think about it." Satori Komeiji sighed deeply, screwing her eyes shut. "It's always like this with you people. Mention one word, and they think about it for the next year."

"Humans?" I heard Miss Tenshi ask from over by the wall.

"Men." Satori Komeiji replied icily. "And stop referring to me by my full name in your head. It's getting tiresome." I frowned at Satori Ko- "Stop." At Satori, then asked her what she'd called me here for. "Ah, well. That's the crux of the matter, isn't it? You see, I am here on the surface for an important investigation. A vengeful spirit, escaped from it's prison in Former Hell." I could see why that was an issue. "Quite. And, right as I think that I'm finally about to get the upper hand, I come here and find our all-important Shrine Maiden," She fixed me with a withering stare. "And, target of said vengeful spirit, stuck in one room and terribly ill." I looked down at the floor, trying not to think about what could happen. "Oh, no need for you to dwell on it. I can do that just fine. At least you - or, now that I'm reading you, your hermit friend - had enough sense to refuse most guests. That komainu was a dangerous call, but you seem to have made it through unscathed."

That sounded good, at least. Silence reigned, and I looked up when Satori didn't say anything. She was leaning forward, her chin resting on her interlocked fingers. She stared at me, and I found my gaze faltering after a few moments. Her eyes were just as surrounded by dark shadows as they had been the last time. "You find some interest in my sleep schedule, don't you?" I heard Miss Tenshi snort in laughter from the wall. "I wouldn't laugh, ex-celestial. You might think yourself perfect, but even you cannot hide from me. What was it you used to say? 'Lay bare the scarlet hearts of men!'?" Tenshi's mouth shut with a click. Satori's third eye flashed with a strange intensity. "Quiet, before I lay bare the scarlet heart of a former celestial." There was total silence from Miss Tenshi.

Satori looked back at me and I found myself fixed intensely by that gaze. "You're wondering why I called you here today." I inclined my head by the slightest amount. "When I found Reimu upon my arrival here, I wondered just what had gotten her so worked up." I remembered her fall into Yamame's work area. "Well, that was part of it. She was none too pleased about all the bruises. But, that wasn't it." Satori stared at me again and I realised that she hadn't blinked since I'd got here. "No, the thing that had gotten her so worked up was you. Tell me, did she say anything to you?" I opened my mouth. "As I already told you, don't bother speaking. The echo is rather murderous on my head." I remembered the words Reimu had said while in the grips of delirium. "A promise, hmm? How very interesting. She actually managed to not think about it when I spoke to her. Do you know how difficult it is to not think about something? I very much doubt you know, but being able to evade someone like me, with the most unstoppable power, is nothing short of astounding." That sounded like Reimu, I said. "Yes, well, as a result, I still don't know why she reacted as she did. Oh, I have some suspicions - Why were you still shirtless?" I blushed as I remembered the events in Yamame's house. That got me thinking to the...other events that had taken place in Yamame's house. "Hm. Clothes? I see. And - Oh, for the love of - Stop thinking! Honestly, it's like a waterfall with you. No, I'm not interested. Your overly complex love life is your business. That is, until you make it my business."

"Complex?" I heard Miss Tenshi ask. I was stuck staring into that third eye, unable to do anything but replay the events that had led to Reimu falling ill in my mind. "How complex can it be?"

"That," Lady Satori waved her hand dismissively. "Is a conversation I would dearly like not to be involved in. Therefore, I ask that you put a halt to it, Chi-"

"Tenshi." Miss Tenshi growled, so loudly and harshly that it actually cut Satori off.

I wondered what she had been about to say. "I suppose that some thing are best left to words instead of thoughts." Satori said. "Putting that aside, I see what you were up to. What I still don't know is what Reimu was up to." I asked her again why I was here. "She made a promise, you said." I hadn't actually said that, but- "But I know regardless. Your inability to grasp my ability is nothing special." I looked back at Miss Tenshi, who had turned her head and engaged in a glaring match with Orin. "Now, the last time we spoke, you possessed some rather large holes in your memory. We had a nice chat, and it ended with you frothing at the mouth and rolling around on my floor, but, I can tell, you've recovered just fine." That made me remember that first night in Lady Kasen's dojo, which in turn set off some tremors in my hands. "Ah, I see. Trauma. I did tell you that the mind forgets for a reason. I restored your memory because you asked, after all. These are your burdens to bear. No, what I want to talk about now isn't your memories of Eientei." She frowned for a moment. "Well, it might be related. I was more focused on the recently history, the last time. Today, I have a different focus." I felt like we'd finally reached the crux of the matter. "Indeed. Now, tell me." Satori's third eye fixed me with its intense gaze. "Where is your family?"
I told her immediately that it was a long story. "Is that so? Well, I seem to have a sudden wealth of spare time, so tell it." I froze, feeling that sensation like cold ichor dripping across my brain. I couldn't...seem to think. I...I- "Hm. As I thought." Satori snapped her fingers in front of my face, which brought my attention back to the present. "Today, it seems, we are learning one of Reimu Hakurei's secrets." She pointed a finger at my forehead. "And it lies here."

Miss Tenshi finally pushed off the wall and sat down beside me. "Just what are you talking about, mind reader?" She looked annoyed. "My patience is divine and yet you seem to be running through it rather quickly."

Satori looked at her mildly. "I wouldn't expect a bratty delinquent like you to understand what the ability to read minds can accomplish." Miss Tenshi's face contorted into an expression of rage and she looked about ready to dive across the table, so I grabbed her hand before she could. I looked behind me and saw that Orin had abandoned her post at the door and was just as ready to dive at Miss Tenshi. "Much better." Satori said, looked back at me. "As I was saying, the answer to Reimu's overprotective attitude toward you lies in there." She pointed at my head again. "Not a recent memory. As if it could be that simple. No - there is a hole. It's old, so integrated with your psyche that even I almost missed it." She rubbed her chin. "Where are your parents?" She asked me.

It was a long story. "So you've said. Whyever do you keep saying that, hmm? You don't even think about it." That drew me up short. Why did I keep saying it? I tried to think, but I couldn't do anything. Did I live in the orphanage? "I wouldn't think so. You'd remember something like that." I asked her what she was trying to say. "There's a hole in your mind. A hole encompassing far more than your stays at Eientei ever could. It's coloured your whole life. You tell me it's a long story because your mind has long since built ways to bridge the gap. To move the conversation on - before you can notice the discrepancies." I had nothing to say to that. I was trying to think, but it was like a poisonous cloud had settled over my thoughts, sapping my strength, and confusing me. "Now, I plan to unravel this mystery." I looked up sharply, asking if she thought that was wise. Couldn't those bridges she'd mentioned collapse? "Oh, indeed. You came to me last time for a favour - for my ability to illuminate your memories. I granted that favour." I felt like the edges of the room were going dark. I could vaguely feel Miss Tenshi, sat next to me. All I could hear was Satori Komeiji. All I could see was the third eye. "I want it repaid." Satori's voice had gained something of an edge to it. I saw her hand come down on top of the third eye. "In full!" Her voice raised almost to a shout, and my mind fell apart.

"-okay? You need to keep moving. It's very important." My mother was pushing me out of the door.

I wasn't in the Hakurei Shrine. I was a child. I was terrified. "We can't stay here." A male voice said, urgently. My father took my hand. "It's too dangerous." I was struggling to breath, and when I looked behind me, I couldn't see anything through the smoke. That was a barn I'd hidden in, and now it was on fire. I started coughing, feeling like my lungs were about to come out. "Come on!" I was being pulled, and I clumsily ran, unable to keep up with his longer legs. My mother was next to me, telling me that it would be okay. I couldn't understand what was happening. "Those youkai - I knew it would happen!" That was the thing about being a child. Youkai existed - that I knew, but they existed in the abstract. A dangerous story I was told to keep me from venturing out too far, a warning for me to take care of my belongings before they could become tsukumogami. They weren't supposed to attack whole villages. My father was a farmhand. He worked in some of the furthest reaches of the village, on the outskirts. He'd been coming home each day complaining that it was getting more and more dangerous. That it was only a matter of time. "This way!" He turned on the next street, dragging me through an alleyway toward the edges of the village. "Can't rely on the Shrine Maiden." He muttered. "Too young. She can barely put her own outfit on, let alone fight off youkai!" I didn't know who the Shrine Maiden was, but I began mumbling under my breath for her to come and save us anyway.

"The others are going for the edge of the woods!" My mother said breathlessly. "With all the youkai in the village, it should be safe to hide there!" I didn't know what was happening. Why were the youkai attacking the village? They'd never done that! I let my father pull me along, until I started to see the bamboo rising out of the darkness. I tripped, and my father pulled me back to my feet. I was shaking all over like one of the leaves on the bamboo stalks of the very forest we were about to seek shelter in. The same forest that I had always been warned to stay out of.

"Come on, come on!" My father was saying to me. We were almost at the entrance now, and I thought I could see the panicked faces of other children, and the even more panicked faces of other parents between the stalks. "Deeper in." He pulled my mother along with his other hand. "They could still see us." He pulled us along the path, until we were far enough in that I couldn't see where the entrance was anymore. "I've been in here enough times to know how to get back. Don't worry, it'll be fine." He said to me.

My father had always been a dependable man. The sort who was rock solid, who would still play with me despite working on the farm for nearly the whole day. In that way that only a child thinks, he was invincible. He knew everything it was possible to know. Of course he'd know how to get out of the forest again. It just made sense.

The forest was deadly silent. It was strange, because the crackling of flames in the village had been overwhelming. I didn't think we were that far in. "This is all wrong. We're just doing what they want." My mother, on the other hand, was something of a worrywart. She was the kind who kept watch on the dragon statue in the village with the eyes of a hawk, and if it even barely changed colour, she'd be sprinting home to shut the place up before even a single drop of rain could fall. "We should go back with the others!"
"No!" My father hissed. "The more of us together, the bigger the target is. We just need to lie low..." I could feel the tension gnawing away at my stomach. He pulled us along, further in the direction away from the village. "Never trust a youkai." He muttered. I frowned. Just then, I'd felt my nose tickle. I could smell smoke. "Never trust in a youkai's word." He ran a hand through his hair. Now I was even more worried. I could hear the crackling again. But we'd only gone further in, hadn't we? How could we be back by the village? "And never trust the bamboo forest." He growled. "Stupid - I should have known. Too many youkai around. Of course they'd keep some back." I tried to ask what he meant. "They've all got abilities. That old youkai exterminator, he died from a disease recently. Someone's got the ability to mess with direction. They've turned us around. You can't even tell in the forest. Stupid!" He growled again.

"Stupid's the right word, buddy." We all froze, and I could feel my heart hammering. "Real stupid. How boring. The ultimate boredom!" Footsteps. I turned my head, terrified of what would be there. There was something in the shadows, laughing with a rusty, rough voice. "That vampire gathered up anyone who was anyone so they could run amok. Of course a nobody like me escaped her gaze." She stepped into the light, revealing razor-sharp teeth, a shabby-looking cloak that went over her head, and what little hair could be seen was black with streaks of red and white. Her outfit was ragged. It looked to be on inside-out. "But that's so sad. I've gotta get my kicks any way I can." She kept on laughing, letting it build up from a low chuckle to full-blown insanity. I wished this nightmare would end. "Oh..." She suddenly stopped. "But I'm a nice person." She smiled again, all those sharp teeth glistening with saliva. "So I'll help ya. Whaddaya say?"

For all his positives, my father had always been just a little too trusting. It had gotten him stuck with paying at the pubs before. He stared the girl out for several long seconds. Then, ever so slowly, he began to relax. "...Can you get us somewhere safe?" He tentatively asked. "Who are you?"

"Me? Just a nobody. From down near the village. I ain't got much, but I survive. I'll getcha someplace safe." I hoped she was telling the truth. I was incredibly scared. "C'mon, It ain't safe here. Everyone could be around ya." She turned, heading off into the woods.
After several moments hesitation, my father had us follow. "I don't trust this." My mother whispered. "It's too convenient." My father told her that we didn't have much choice, but the girl didn't seem too bad. She could have been one of those vagrants who made a living on the streets.

"Keep up!" I heard the girl call from ahead of us. The forest was darker here, but I couldn't hear the village anymore. I was feeling something else. Something wrong. A ringing in my ears. I wanted to turn and run, but I didn't know where I was or where I could possibly run to. "I'm getting bored!" We pushed ahead, hoping for a way out. Ahead was a clearing. It looked like it had once been occupied, but was long abandoned. "We've got a long way to go!" She called, pushed through the stalks and into the clearing. I really, really wanted to turn tail and run.

And then we stepped into the courtyard and the illusion fell. Youkai surrounded us. Some more humanoid, some entirely bestial. They were murmuring to each other and laughing, and the girl who had been leading us was doubled over, howling with laughter. "Oh...Oh, it feels so awful. Oh!" She ripped off the cloak and somehow, my blood ran even colder. Horns. "That betrayal! It's the worst of feelings! I'm an amanojaku, idiots!" I looked up at my father. He could figure something out.

But he was just as frozen as I was. And I was starting to see that there was no way out. "Dinner's served!" The amanojaku roared.

I don't know what happened. I couldn't remember. I think they got my mother first. At least her death was quick. My father was less lucky. The amanojaku suggested saving me for last, so I was forced to my knees to watch as they took turns attacking my father. Despite his inevitable end approaching, he didn't cry out. He didn't scream in pain. Even has blood poured down his face from claws, fists and everything in-between, he remained silent. Then, they went for the final blow.

And as they did, the youkai closest to him were bisected. Split in two, from their heads all the way down. They died instantly, their faces not even having time to change to shock. The youkai watching me were frozen, as if they'd turned into statues. I heard footsteps. "Well, well, well." A regal-sounding voice said. I could barely see anything, my tears having long since blurred my view. I wanted to go to my father. I wanted my mother. I wanted none of this to have happened. "So this is where they were hiding. You see, Hakurei? Decisive end." I rubbed at my eyes, and now I could see the woman. Tall, with a long, flowing purple dress. She had a parasol over her shoulder, and wore a cap with a red bow. Her hair was blonde, long and adorned with more bows. A red ribbon encircled her neck. Behind her, I could see a small girl, about my age. She wore red and white, and in her hand was a stick longer than she was tall. She looked as scared as I felt. "Now then, I know you can all hear me." The blonde woman was speaking. "Your lives have already ended. You will not live to see another full moon." She looked at my father, who had finally fallen to one knee. "Hakurei, you deal with him." The spell I was under broke, and I was running to my father immediately. He was coughing up blood, clearly dying. The red and white girl met me there, looking at him with a completely lost expression on her face. I didn't know what to do either. "Okay!" I heard the blonde woman call. "It has come to my attention that a certain vampire has riled you all up. She'll be dealt with in the appropriate manner. As for all of you who can't understand the concept of a sustainable food supply...Well, better luck in the next life." I heard a sound akin to a bubble popping in reverse, and then the sound of several...things hitting the ground. "Ah, the amanojaku. You're the one who led me to here, so I suppose I'll have to thank you in some way. I'll just...hurt you, for a while. Then, I'll let you go." I think the amanojaku was begging for mercy, but I wasn't paying attention to that.

My father was coughing up more blood. "You...Hakurei..." He gasped. The Hakurei Shrine Maiden looked up at him, barely as tall standing as he was kneeling. "Protect him." He implored, grasping me. "Promise me." The Hakurei Shrine Maiden shakily nodded. "Promise!" He shouted.
She looked as terrified as I felt. "I-I promise!" Her voice was weak.

"Good...good." My father sighed, his eyes going out of focus. "Don't forget...that promise..." He looked at me one last time. Then, he collapsed to the ground. And that was it. My parents were dead. My mind couldn't handle much more than that. I started screaming, and I don't think I stopped until I passed out. I couldn't breath. I couldn't think. I had lost everything that had ever mattered to me. I had watched them die, knowing I would be next. I - I...

I had collapsed. I couldn't see or breath, let alone think. I'd forgotten my own parents. I'd forgotten their deaths. I wasn't screaming, but I might as well have been. "Hm." I heard. "That was rather more than I expected." I twitched.

"What have you done to him, mind reader?" A different voice said. "He's not moving!" I heard a scraping sound.

"Now, now, Chiko. He knew the risks when he agreed to come." I twitched again. I couldn't speak. "And he's been remarkably resilient so far. Even Marisa Kirisame took longer to recover when I drew out her traumas. Perhaps he has more in common with Reimu than he knows." I remembered. Reimu. The promise. My father.

"Don't fucking call me Chiko!" The first voice sounded significantly more angry. "You might have destroyed his brain! For what, an answer to a question that had nothing to do with you!?" I was coming back to the present. Blue hair. A dress that swirled with the patterns of the sky.

"I can read minds, Chi-" I heard a crash. "Fine. I can read minds, Tenshi Hinanawi. Everything is to do with me eventually." Tenshi. Satori, the mind reader. Hakurei Shrine. Reimu. I jolted up, gasping for air. "Ah, see? Very resilient, indeed." I stared at Satori, who was standing. Miss Tenshi was stood on the table, her fist aiming at Satori's head. Someone had burst through the door. I caught the sight of massive wings. Tenshi's fist was enclosed by the left hand of the girl who stood by Satori. The right hand was itself enclosed in a massive, orange object, which was pointed at Miss Tenshi's head. It crackled with some sort of energy I didn't understand. I felt just as lost as I had in my memories. "Okuu. Relax. She's not going to attack me." The winged woman, Okuu, slowly lowered the cannon and pushed Miss Tenshi back with her other hand. Miss Tenshi stumbled backwards, hopping down from the table with a snarl.

Miss Tenshi pulled me up into her arms. "Are you okay?" She asked. I tried to speak, but barely got a word out. I felt too hot and too cold at the same time. My vision was swimming. "I guess brain damage might not be out of the question, huh?" I think I tried to laugh. Instead, my vision began to darken.

I heard Satori step around the desk and kneel in front of me. She took hold of my chin and forced my eyes to meet hers. "You will survive this." She told me in no uncertain terms. "Trauma is unforgiving, but if there's one thing I know about humanity, it's that you are tenacious." The last thing I remembered was Satori's third eye. "Perhaps you should put him with Reimu." She said, her voice muffled and echoing, as if I was slipping under water. "They've got a lot to discuss."

But I was already gone.

Holy shit, surprise Okuu appearance. But that escalated fast from Tenshi threatening to Satori to getting a nuke pointed in her face. Reimubros this might be the plot twist we needed now anon realises Reimu is far more important to him than just a temporary or duty-bound guardian against whatever the Lunarians were doing with him. Considering they've both rescued each other at some point now this sets their standing with each other on an interesting footing.

>>44467067
The lost ones getting attacked in the woods is something Yukari probably frowns on and would deal with if the Hakurei shrine maiden doesn't if they got too frequent or became too bigger problem and threatened to spill into other areas. Brazen attacks on the village or even it's outskirts though are a fundamental breach of what keeps the balance of order in Gensokyo intact so Yukari treating that in the harshest possible terms with actual extermination makes sense and fits her logic.

Similar thing with the arrival of the SDM, while probably caused by Yukari bringing them there to counterbalance something else (maybe the Lunarian threat was serious enough in her eyes to warrant inviting two extremely powerful youkai and their whole retinue into Gensokyo) once it began to threaten the balance between humans due to the villagers being hunted for food an intervention was required to establish a pact both sides were logical enough to accept to maintain order. It didn't require further action like the Amanajakou village attacks incident which would have continued to spiral out of hand with them showing little interest in making deals or causing anything else but chaos. Youkai preying on humans in what' mostly their own habitat out in the woods isn't the same kind of situation.

Anon's probably gotta reconsider his relationship with Yamame... It's one thing to logically know that she's a man-eating youkai, but it's another thing to really KNOW it in your heart.
All the trauma that he bears was caused by youkai. His parents, his scars, his torturous times at Eientei... all at the hands of youkai, who truly see humans as little more than food or toys to be played with. Even Satori painfully wrenched out the guts of his subconscious solely for her own curiosity. Yamame is little different from other youkai. The only reason Anon didn't end up mercilessly slaughtered and devoured like his parents was because of a literal piece of divine luck. Earlier he thought he could live with that, but with these memories uncovered, can he really?

I don't think it can work or last but they can still be lifelong friends on the experiences they've been through together. Anon will move on and settle down with whoever else he finally ends up with and Yamame will probably be hit harder but should eventually come round to it. Tenshi will probably be the one that gets left out in the cold here and is unlikely to take it well either. Anon with Reimu given the history now too and what they've been through together since feels like it's meant to lead somewhere significant. I can easily see this being the spark for something there given both of them have now helped each other out and probably feel now like they owe each other something but also shown they don't have a one-sided protector-dependent relationship but a more balanced one. But then maybe that's why Kasen pushes it so hard, she knows something there is meant to be even if she is probably too enthusiastic to push things harder.

NTA (I'm who was replied to), but while Tenshi definitely likes him to some degree, I think it's a smaller crush than Yamame's outright devoted love at this point. Tenshi is extremely emotionally invested into any friends she makes, considering she has next to none; remember, she was very distraught over becoming distant from Shion.

Given all that, should Anon end up with someone else (which I predict will happen), I think she would eventually be able to accept it as long as they remain close friends. And of course Anon would want that too.

>I hate you human but I can't resist you either, you're going to fuck me like I'm that spider girl or I'll fucking claw you to death right now and take your corpse down to Okuu
>anon is terrified but has no choice and begins to undress as Orin forces herself on him, jumping on top and alternating between kissing and biting anon, yelling in his ear how much she hates his guts but adores his body
>after a while anon also begins to get it into, before they know it they're both having passionate, violent sex on the floor of her bedroom, Orin digging her claws into anon's back but a also screaming out and making angry cat noises in pleasure
>this escalates further and the end up on top of a dressing table, breaking it and a number of ornaments and decorations
>but this concerto of cries and breaking furniture is audiable outside even the thick walls and heavy oak door of the bedroom

I don't think the narrator's unawareness of Yukari diminishes the other anon's point. He has come across many youkai: some treated him maliciously, others with kindness. I still think a wholesale rejection of his relationship with Yamame goes against the main themes of the story, which are basically "everyone has the same capacity for good as evil" and "don't judge a book by its cover". There will absolutely be a big wedge in their relationship over this (compounding onto the already stark differences in their life circumstances), but if their actions so far are any indication, I think both have the willpower and passion to do everything they can to make things work out.

The theme is that Anon is a dumb fuck who can't tell when his spoder wife and/or tenkotan boywife are desperate to fuck him, and there's some retconned reasons as to why he's so retarded and generic.
That's what happens when you let something grow so much bigger than it was intended to be, you start having massive plotholes because before there was the understanding that it was a dumb dating thing where anon has to play dumb for the premise to work out over and over again, but now it's inexcusable and out of character since there's been so much development that has had to happen, but without the proper setup.

No offense to writeanon though, that's just how the cookie has crumbled. I can fag for Tenko all I like, but it's all up to him as to how to handle the love... thing? that has happened.

The reveal itself is serviceable and explains somethings, although from a yamfag pov this could be seen as a cheap way to reset or worsen their relationship. So there's a tightrope to walk there, where their relationship both can't be totally sunk and can't stay the same or even romantic.

There would need to be an actual cathartic moment for that, and if unblocking deeply held traumas in the darkest part of his psyche won't do that, I am not sure what will. Maybe a certain bratty angel can confront him on his habits and force him to think more carefully in the future about his actions and what they might lead to.
And that is playing down the sheer magnitude of the shift in tone the story has undergone. We went from anon being plot armour-level unkillable to a comical degree, to exposing how extreme stress can totally block off parts of a man, radically changing his personality. Having anon go through a moment where he reflects on his hubris would be neat, but might be asking for too much.

Not that not doing that is a bad thing; The series has to come to a conclusion eventually and adding in so many plotpoints might drag it on past the point where the suspension of disbelief can keep the status quo from feeling drawn out.
If Anon were to go through a reflective change, I'd stick it right at the end, probably when he has to choose which girl he will dedicate his life to. It's an extraordinary event to undergo, and will need to be handled with the correct gravity.

The fact remains that no matter how kind they are, youkai are man-eaters. Anon cannot ignore that fact, especially since he met Yamame as she tried to eat him, and even now she still feels that desire (though for now, not directed at him). >>44475006
No need to be so dour, our author is doing well enough despite the unanticipated scope and direction. Besides, I think much of Anon's earlier obliviousness can be explained by reasoning that since he previously had known only of the dangerous, bloodthirsty side of youkai, him being introduced to the personable, humanlike aspects of them (via Marisa's irresponsible dating "business") was enough to confuse his thinking and make him forget that youkai have both human and inhuman sides to them, not just one or the other. I agree, he's handling it very well, but the point still stands where anon has outgrown his original [lack of] backstory, and a new one has been shoved in.
It's an interesting idea, and I hope the questions that are still open get answered, but it cannot escape the fact that it postdates the original premise, and came totally out of the blue with no indication that any of this had happened.

Everyone wants their favourite to win here, but having everyone win is a lot like having no one win, a hollow victory.
If you watch a game of football, are you really satisfied with a draw? Or would you rather they keep playing until someone, anyone scores a goal since then a least there's a nail in the coffin.

For me harem endings suck because they are totally fabricated. Polyamoury is frowned upon in nearly every culture, and moreso on women than men.
There is a total zero chance that any one of the girls are going to be open to an open sexual relationship, as opposed to a traditional monogamous one.
Reimu would beat everyone's ass until Anon was hers, Tenshi would probably be utterly heartbroken that her first shot at a meaningful relationship was crushed, and Yamame will feel cheated out of what she feels she deserves, and writing all of that out would be so out of character that it might as well be an april fool's joke ending, which is not what people want.

And again; my main point is that it's a cop-out because it sidesteps any meaningful development made to come to a hard decision.
The whole point of this kind of thing is that you have to make that decision, with the full knowledge that you cannot have it all.
Not doing that and having everyone ride your dick means you never make it, and never give a thoughtful conclusion to the character arc.

>Polyamoury is frowned upon in nearly every culture, and moreso on women than men.
Cultures aren't people though, and you'll find women in practice give a lot less of a shit about that than men do, as realistically their number 1 concern is security. While I agree in this particular case that a harem ending doesn't make sense, that's more a product of the story itself rather than harem endings in general being bad by any stretch. In general though, any harem ending in any work with a mote of realism would have most of the members be their own people with their own lives, even if the guy in question has enough drive and resources to support the lot of them.

Again, a failing of your weak sperm in the fullest sense of the word.
I agree that in context of this story it wouldn't work, but there is nothing wrong with harem ends nor stories as a rule. The only thing ever wrong with them is that they're often written poorly as the writer is out of his scope.

I'll humor you and address your other points briefly; Harems are not 'oft frowned upon in nearly every culture' like it is in polyamourious relationships, those are two different things entirely. In the majority of the world and even modern society a man having multiple women that live together in a stable relationship is quite doable outside the modern western world, but thats a legalistic matter and outside the scope of this argument.
Its not a cop-out in any real sense of the world, you can love multiple women and it works just fine, especially in a setting where western morality isn't an issue and the matter of having multiple wives is entirely on the prowess of the male. Hell even in western settings having a mistress or even two isn't the most uncommon thing historically.

That's mostly a modern thing arising from liberal views on sex supplanting the social restrictions traditionally held.
Gensokyo would not have any of that, and no sex before marriage is probably the norm, beast youkai notwithstanding. Yammers is a horny spidder.
Reimu is about as traditional as it can get, aside from her fashon sense, and Tenshi is both fairly reserved and very old chronologically, so she probably wouldn't be into it either.

Also,
>Cultures aren't people
implies that they don't have any weight whatsoever, which is wrong since if they didn't we wouldn't be able to observe that they existed (in an abstract sense). Are there exceptions? Of course, but they are "exceptions", not by any measure the norm.

>>44475107
As you say, the contents of the book matter, and I think you're downplaying much of Yamame's benevolence (at least solely towards Anon) so far. Yes, it is in her nature to be a man-eater, but she's been shown to have self-control over that, enough to the point where she's constantly hungry. And past her previous attempts to eat him, Yamame has treated him with nothing but kindness; remember, she shows remorse over what she did at the temple. Any bitterness towards those who killed his parents would not be directed at her.
As of now, I fail to see how this can completely nullify their relationship. I would like to ask, what do you believe would go through his head for him to decide it wouldn't work out? I doubt my perspective would change, but I'd like to know what my personal biases may be causing me to overlook.

While at the end of the day the story is entertainment, I do think that at this point, it takes itself seriously enough that it has genuine commentary on human nature and how we live our lives. I do think potential outcomes of the story would be in line with such ideas shared so far. But what do I know, perhaps I'm just a Yamamefag busting out the secondary school literary theory to explain why his precious ship won't be sunk.
Tangential to your remark of "postdating the original premise", something I noticed is that the author tends to respond to or build off ideas shared in the thread as he develops the story. The first few entries were replies to other posts suggesting who to date, and Kasen playing matchmaker with Reimu became a thing after people made jokes about it. Your stupid ass clearly ignores the fact that every civilisation that has made it to the iron age paid lip service to monogamy in one way or another, with the general ideal that it would not be violated.
This is because the 50/50 ratio of men to women just so happens to line up rather well to relationships consisting of one man and one woman, and any violation of this tends to result in people beating the absolute shit out of each other.
strongsperm has fuck all to do with it, you'll just end up pissing everyone off if you try in a remotely modern society, and probably end up with a spear in your chest from someone who had had enough.
And pray tell, how did a /jp/sie attract at least two women who were willing to share?

I don't think the relationship is completely nullified, I think that he will just have to take a step back and seriously consider everything that she is, not just the parts he likes. I think there's plenty of room for it to go either way, and I'd personally be fine with a Yamame ending because I still like her myself. I also notice that their relationship is still young and not set in stone. It's defined by their friendship and the kindness they've showed each other as well as the physical passion they've shared, but it's not something that has to last forever. It started in less than a week, and it can end like that, too, given enough reason. So I could see it going sour if this shock to Anon's system makes him decide that he might not want to kiss the same mouth that devours hapless humans who happen to fall down spider holes. Humans like his parents, whose loss he just felt again like it was the first time.

No, no, it'd definitely be Yamame in that case still. It just is a matter of whether or not Anon is savvy enough to realize that ultimately, he's not someone special, and if he hadn't eaten that celestial peach, he'd just be another casualty on Yamame's presumably extensive body count. Please, just admit you read too much hentai. You are not a protagonist, you're a shitposter. The crippling problems in reality for a reasonably normal person [IE. Not genghis khan or an arab prince] would ruin any short term fun you had with multiple women.
I mean, think of it, you'd want to hang yourself after fifteen minutes of their collective bullshit woman opinions, they would never shut the fuck up.

He's also survived several encounters that SHOULD have left him dead or crippled. Incidentally, most of that was courtesy of Eirin, even though she took up her own ulterior motives later on. In this case Anon doesn't have the same ease of ignoring the fact that other human beings have been killed by these youkai, and even if nobody personally close to him has died to any of them, that's only because everybody close to him was already massacred. Honestly in retrospect this is the one factor that could actually lead to a "Dark Horse Eirin Ending" depending on how the writefriend handles it.

Thanks for sharing. You have a mindful and nuanced take.
>their relationship is young and not set in stone
This is one of my criticisms I have with the story (and most other works of fiction honestly), the interpersonal relationships develop too fast to the point of almost feeling unnatural. That said, even in real life their are romances (and friendships for that matter) that blossom hurriedly yet still go on to last. I also don't have a good solution for the writer to improve that beyond arbitrarily extending the story's length, so I've chosen to suspend my disbelief.
>Humans like his parents, whose loss he just felt the first time
I was wondering how his empathy for others he doesn't know would outweigh his already developed feelings for Yamame, but when you put it that way I can see how that would work. And in the past Yamame mentioned she might need to subsist off fear a la Kogasa; this may have merely been a snarky remark, but consideration for Anon may potentially cause to seriously consider it.
As you said, there's plenty of room for it to go either way.

"Miss Tenshi! He's waking up!" Were the words that greeted my shredded mind as I awoke. I could barely feel anything except the pain in my head. I vaguely heard the sound of footsteps running away from me. I stared up at the ceiling, wondering if my vision would stop swimming. I heard a groan come from somewhere to my right. I tried to turn my head, but that made the pain in my head intensify, so I gave up.
"Ugh...That girl needs to learn when to be quiet." Reimu's voices still sounded exhausted. I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping it would lessen the pounding. Very, very slowly, I shifted my head to the right. This time, the pain was almost bearable, and I found myself staring into Reimu Hakurei's sleepy eyes. "Hi." She mumbled. I tried to respond but couldn't get any words out. "Satori said this might happen." She yawned deeply. "That your mind is, um, basically rebuilding itself." I must have looked a little panicked. "She thinks you'll be fine. It just...might take a while for everything to start working again." I was struggling to think, but I managed to shift my head down to find that Reimu was in the same futon as me. "You were...well, freezing cold. Almost like you were dead, so I had to, um..." I tried to force my arm to respond to me and managed to very slightly shift it underneath the covers, and my eyes widened when it came into contact with smooth skin. "W-Well, you did it for me, so..." I tried to ask if she was okay with that, but the only thing that escaped my lips was a slightly harsher breath.
"Anyway." Reimu didn't look like she wanted to ask the question, but she took a shuddering breath and tried again. "Satori...said that she unlocked a traumatic memory." I swallowed, trying to keep my head together, but I could already see it in my mind. That amanojaku. My parents. Death. So, so much death. "I think I know which one." I tried to look at her, but I could feel my eyes burning. I felt Reimu pull me into a hug, and I did feel a little better, despite the pain it brought on my head. I had watched my parents die. I would have been killed too. "You probably wondered why I cared so much about a random human going to Eientei, didn't you?" It had crossed my mind, I suppose. I probably would have thought that the Hakurei Shrine Maiden had more important things to do. "I don't break a promise." She whispered. I just barely nodded. Just how many of my memories had changed? I had somehow edited my parent's room out of my own memory.
How long had Reimu Hakurei been protecting me?
I couldn't imagine how awful I looked, but it was probably nothing compared to how I felt inside. I tried to speak again, but only managed the slightest noise. Reimu looked pretty awful too. "You...didn't remember that day." I knew that much. "I was barely even the Shrine Maiden back then. The most I could do was swing the gohei around and throw the Hakurei Orb at youkai. I wasn't...I couldn't have saved you." I looked at her with a frown. I wanted to ask what she was trying to say. "I know that you must be in a bad way, but I just want you to know that - that youkai aren't the same now as they were then. A youkai saved you then. You've met youkai now, and they're not like they used to be." I couldn't bring myself to truly think about what I'd remembered, but I must have looked like I didn't believe her. "That incident, it was...well, it was the worst I'd seen in my life." Reimu looked a little haunted by the memories too. I wondered how bad hers could be. Maybe Satori had been right. We had more in common than I'd realised. Not everyone’s trauma was easy to spot. "Everything that could have gone wrong did. Too many bored youkai. One charismatic leader to rile them all up into a frenzy and point them at a target. And she picked just the right time of year. Summer, when people let their guards down slightly. It was...bad." That sounded like an understatement.

"It took the more powerful youkai to bring everything down. You probably remember the blonde women from your memory." I did. She'd been the one to save me and kill all of those youkai. "She took me with her. I've never asked why, but I guess that she wanted to see if I could handle it. That was Yukari. I know that some other big names were involved. Yuuka, Suika, and Aya, at least. But Yukari must have wanted me to protect the village. That's the purpose of the Hakurei Shrine Maiden." Reimu shifted her head to stare at the ceiling. I slowly shifted by head back to rest more comfortably. "After the attacks ended, the youkai struck a deal with the leader. But..." My mind couldn't make much sense of my memories. "Well, it seemed like it would happen again. The youkai came to me after that. They wanted some way to cause problems without it getting so violent." I thought I knew where this was going. "The Spell Card Rules." I thought about the Danmaku Duels I had seen in the past. The way the patterns stretched out across the sky. "We set up the first draft not long after." Reimu sighed. "And it worked. No real major incidents since." I supposed that was good. A little late, but at least it meant not many others would experience what I had. "I know it's not much consolation." Reimu had guessed my thoughts. "But...it changed things. The Spell Card Rules, I mean. Youkai can let loose without it hurting people too much." I remembered Rumia. In a reflex, without my mind controlling it, my scarred shoulder twitched. I tried to speak again, and this time I managed a weak cough. "It isn't perfect, but it's the best we've got." Reimu told me, lightly touching my scars. I didn't try and answer. Youkai could let loose now? As if they weren't then? When they ate my mother and murdered my father? I let out a hissed breath between my gritted teeth.
"That spider." Reimu said. Yamame. I'd spent so much time with her. I'd slept in her bed. I'd kissed her. She was a youkai, too. She had killed humans in the past. She probably still killed humans in the present. It was one thing to know it in abstract, but in my memory, I knew how it must have felt to be one of those humans. "She-" Reimu cut herself off for a moment, then tried again. "You and she..." Reimu didn't look like she wanted to broach the subject. "Look, I'm not trying to get in the way of your love life. That’s how all of this started, anyway. Really, I'm not interested. She's a youkai. You're a human. You don't have to answer right now, but I need to know...Do you really think it could work?" I didn't want to answer that right now. I wanted to believe it could. But I couldn't stop thinking about my uncovered memories. I stared up at the ceiling, frustrated. "I'm-" Reimu's words were cut off by a nasty cough, and she shivered. "...I'm still pretty ill..." She finally muttered. I was certain that she'd been about to say something else. Instead, she huddled closer to my side, shifting my arm so it wrapped around her shoulders.
The door slid open again. "Oh, have some decency, Reimu." I heard Miss Tenshi say. "Do you cuddle naked with every handsome man who comes to the Shrine?" She walked over and squatted beside me. I slowly tried to turn my head. Miss Tenshi smiled down at me, her sky blue hair framing her face. "Well, now." She poked me in the cheek, and I groaned. "That mind-reader's very lucky she's got her walking disaster of a hell raven with her. I'd have pummelled her so bad that I’d have to rebuild the Shrine again for what she did to you. See if Reimu here would cuddle naked with her."
"Mhm. Fuck off, delinquent ex-celestial." Reimu said, her eyes closed as she happily curled up into a ball. "As if I'm taking your opinion into consideration. "He's serving as my personal heater right now."
I looked up at Miss Tenshi, who clicked her tongue in annoyance. "Oh, fine. See if you end up in Heaven with that attitude."
"Well, it's not like you would know." Reimu's muffled voice came as she buried under the covers. I could feel her hair tickling my side.
"I would, as a matter of fact. But either way, I'm here to talk to him, not you." Miss Tenshi sounded annoyed, and I wondered why. She knelt down by my head. "The mind-reader's gone, by the way. She said that she would simply have to conduct her investigation on her own."
"Yeah, because that'll end well." Reimu's voice came from beneath the covers again. "She'll be in a coma within the day."

"I'm not talking to an ill Shrine Maiden right now, since it’s your fault that you’re ill in the first place." Miss Tenshi said sharply. "Are you okay? I don't know exactly what she showed you, but I can't imagine it was anything good." I managed to shake my head. "Well, even divine luck can't protect you from everything. How's your head?" I couldn't answer, but I made some sort of shrugging motion. "Figures she'd put no care into dealing with a human. You'd never see someone behave like that in Heaven." She took her hat off and ran her hand through her hair. "You'll recover, I'm sure. I wish I could take you somewhere better, but short of abducting you and taking you to Heaven - and I don't think they'd be too happy to see me - here's probably the safest place for you."
"Better? You're lucky I'm ill." Reimu muttered. "He'll be fine if you let him rest."
Miss Tenshi laughed. "Oh, Reimu. If I left him to you, he'd starve in a day. No, I'll be coming back for the next few days." I wanted to thank her for her generosity, but I was still struggling to get words out. I noticed a distinct lack of any quick response from Reimu.
When one did come, it was a very quiet, almost petulant whisper of "I'm not the only one living here." I imagined that Reimu must have done something particularly embarrassing at one point, and no one was in a hurry to let her forget it.
Miss Tenshi got to her feet and stretched her arms out. "Ah...Well, I don't think either of you are going to be moving much today. I'm going for now, but I'll grace you with my presence again tomorrow." She cracked her knuckled and rolled her neck. "Ugh, I wish I'd gotten to punch that mind reader in her smug face. I hate that kind of person." I don't think I'd have gone quite that far, but I didn't feel all that many positive emotions toward Satori Komeiji right now. It wasn't like the first time. Then, I'd asked. Here, she'd forcibly uncovered the hole in my memory. It was just another reminder that youkai didn't think like humans. They didn't take the same considerations.
Was Yamame like that as well? For all this time, I'd considered her biting habit something endearing. But now...Could I think of it that way again? I wanted to pretend it hadn't happened. Perhaps I could get past it, but it wouldn't be soon.
I thought that if I were to see Yamame, now, it wouldn't end well. And, regardless of how things shook out, she deserved better than that. She had done far more for me than I deserved, and I still liked her too much to pretend that I could just cut anything off. I wanted to see her again, but I needed the time, without talking to any man-eating youkai, to let my mind heal.
Miss Tenshi had pulled the sliding door open, and I could see that night was approaching. "Having someone of my stature take care of you must be an exciting prospect, but it'll have to wait for tomorrow." Miss Tenshi had a smug smile on her face, but unlike Satori, it didn't feel like outright superiority. Close, I supposed, but not quite. "I'll be making you breakfast, so you'd better not sleep in." She finished with a wave, and then pulled the sliding door shut. I could hear her muffled voice outside, talking to someone, but I couldn't tell who it was.
Reimu poked her head back out of the covers. "There's a horrifying prospect." She muttered. "That girl cannot cook. She makes fun of me, but she's even worse." I didn't like the sound of that, but at least someone would be making something. I felt like my voice had improved a little, but not enough to try and talk fully. Instead, I picked a single word. I asked Reimu if she was really naked. She snorted. "Ha. What, did you want me to be? No, I'm still wearing my bloomers. You've already undressed me once, so it's not really anything to be ashamed of, is it?" I breathed a sigh of relief. Answering her question would have taken a significant number of words that I just didn't have in me right now. Instead, I decided to close my eyes. I did feel exhausted, just as I had when Satori had unravelled my mind the first time. "Yeah, I'm tired too. This illness stuff takes a lot out of you." Reimu said, settling down next to me. "Maybe by tomorrow I'll finally stop feeling so awful. Hey, now we can both be...what did Marisa say? 'Difficult'? I'm sure she'll love that." Reimu dragged by arm back around her to serve as her pillow. "Well, goodnight."
It didn't take her long to fall asleep. After a few minutes, I found myself staring up at the ceiling again. I was thinking about Yamame again. I wondered if she'd recovered from Reimu's gohei injuries. If she was in bed too. I didn't know how everything would end, but I did know that I didn't want to cut Yamame Kurodani out of my life.

Tenshi might lose out there but on the other hand it feels like after this she'll be anon's best friend for the rest of his life so at least she'll never lose his company again. Anon showed up in the mountains he could be a true friend to Tenshi, now she is returning the favour double. Yamame is most likely going to lose here, but I hope anon can realise it'll never really work, move on and let her down gently without hurting her too much or leading to more humans being eaten by her. The only part I feel like Tenshi is wrong about is Satori is much more of a protagonist than she gives her credit for being. She might be smug, but she's solved some of the biggest gaps in the story and in a supreme irony has probably done more to bring anon and Reimu closer than Kasen ever could.

If other youkai generally fear them it makes you untouchable to the ones that would entertain the thought of you as food. If I were stuck in Gensokyo the first thing I'd do is try to amass power because without it I wouldn't be able to do anything. Afterwards I'll either build a home in isolation somewhere or I'll go full Revolutionary and attempted to liberate the Humans in Gensokyo or help them build a power base do they can be their own faction like the Tengu instead of being at the mercy of the Gods and Youkai.

>> No.44480848

>>44480477
If the objective was to liberate Gensokyo you'd have to work slower and subtler. Amassing power is great but you'd have a hard limit you'd hit as a human. And if you goal is to break the barrier or do something along those lines you'd want to stay human, maybe becoming a magician would work since its just human plus.
Basically you need to accept that you won't be able to surmount youkai like Yukari, the sages in general, the shrine maidens, nor the big dragon God in wrecking their only refuge so you'd have to work smarter not harder.
Number one you'd have to improve the village just enough that it won't catch attention, like working to get running water and a sewer system, which would already improve life expetency dramatically. Dangerously plans to introduce electricity could happen but that project might just meet resistance from youkai who realize what you're doing so you'd have to wait.
Second you'd have to defang certain groups of youkai, like salt refining from minerals for the kappa, establishing basic trading with the Tengu, expanding out the homesteads of the village. Creating rival schools simply stocked with a few human teachers that aren't pushing youkai propaganda down their throats. In the end it should lay the groundwork for your goals without painting a target on your back for 'unfortunate accidents'

In Mary's time countries are starting to put limits on peoples life spans, yes I know Gensokyo has laws limiting people from becoming Youkai, it's my fault for not clarifying I'd prefer me or one of my future reincarnations to become a hermit over a Youkai.
Which would be easier in Gensokyo, and honestly the heavenly assassins every 500 years sounds preferable than being hunted down from governments across the globe, at least from what we see with Seiga they leave you alone until it's time to put you though a tribulation, where being hunted down globally I'd have no rest at all.

The Jinyou stuff seems to only apply to villagers, and even then it's more likely just a pretense since the real issue was the Fortune Teller realized how godawful Gensokyo is. All things considered, and given that the time shenanigans leads one to assume Gensokyo may not even exist by the time of the Future Hifuu Club, I can't exactly say it seems like a better choice by itself. While becoming a Hermit is probably the best way to go, it still isn't a situation where you'd be happy if you have any shred of a conscience and don't willfully ignore the status quo.

>> No.44481364

>>44481295
Well it's not like I can't help people, the village does have running water to some extant due to having relatively modern kitchens and sinks and stuff.
The Moriya shrine crew is also working on modernization and introducing technologies fictions to the outside world, probably wouldn't have internet which would suck a bit, but I can live without internet.
If i wanted to change to nature of Youkai i'd probably have to talk to Byakuren since that's something she's working on, hygiene and medicine has probably significantly improved ever since the Hourai Pharmacy started operations and I don't know much of medicine so I couldn't really do much there.
Other than that, maybe trying to introduce the idea of growing synthetic human meat might work?
Other than that I'd be fine, you can't hold yourself morally responsible for everything that happens and as long as I try my best to help people and don't become a Youkai I think I'd be okay.

>> No.44481453

>you can't hold yourself morally responsible for everything that happens
I can if I commit to the hermit grind enough until I'm in the big leagues.
As for Byakuren, don't count on her trying to change the status quo too much, her personality has been pretty well-established as kowtowing to the status quo out of fear for her own life.
Moriya Shrine is probably the most directly beneficial but you have to keep in mind Kanako is focused on what gets her faith, not strictly what's in the best interests of humanity in general.
Overall the best answer going by established canon remains being finding a way to do the opposite of the Magician (Youkai) transformation, and finding a way to apply that to all non-humans, as it would simultaneously weaken them substantially, ensuring that most of them are relatively in the same ballpark as humans and each other, and thus force them to develop the ability to not being unimaginably self-centered assholes, and also remove the need for belief for their existence.

>Byakuren
Yeah she tends to be pretty flawed, but her little experiment hasn't been shut down and it might have promise. Plus I don't know enough about Yukari's or the 4th Sage's goals to say they would oppose this plan.

>Moriya Shrine is probably the most directly beneficial but you have to keep in mind Kanako is focused on what gets her faith, not strictly what's in the best interests of humanity in general.
That's most people, afterall people rarely act truly altruistically with no other objectives. So I don't count that against her, I'm not really picky about where innovations and improvement of the quality of life come from as long as it isn't literal human sacrifice.

>Reverse magicianing Youkai
It's a cool idea but I wouldn't know where to start.
If I did find a way to do that, I think I only would if it didn't damage Gensokyo which functions as a safe haven for things rejected by the human reason, and as the Grand Unified Theory is eventually created, those things would need a place to live, it just feels too cruel to leave them nowhere to go, and it would basically be condemning them to death.
But as I said, if it doesn't damage Gensokyo functions as a world of fantasy it's fine.

>> No.44481651

>Yukari's or the 4th Sage's goals
Yukari's goal is to not be forever alone, and presumably fulfill whatever weird grudge she has against the Lunarians. Still not sure where the whole "4 sages" idea comes from because I've yet to find canon evidence for there being specifically 4.
>Moriya Shrine
Of course there isn't much reason to hold it against her, it's just important to keep it in mind. A motive like that can and will likely lead to a conflict in interest with someone acting purely out of benevolence, who would obviously push for humanity to be capable of standing on its own two feet, thus making gods redundant.
>Fulcrum Shift (Reverse Magician Deal)
You'd essentially have to become a Hermit to try something like that on a large scale, as their ability to create Otherworlds via Senkai is really the only option to have your own space to fuck with the cosmology. The entire point would be to ensure that the GHB is redundant so that fantastical things can exist regardless of human observation. All things considered, if Byakuren is truly sincere about wanting human and youkai coexistence, she should be all-aboard such an idea, as it would remove the unhealthy power dynamic both sides have over the other.

>there being specifically 4.
I don't think there is, it just seems to make sense I guess, we've seen Okina, Kasen, and Yukari, but it doesn't feel like we've met all of them.
>Moriya shrine
Well it's not like I'm acting in solely in human interest, I just personally dislike humans being eaten, humanity itself is a bit to broad of a concept for me to feel allegiance too, and of course I enjoy my modern comforts so i'd want them introduced to Gensokyo. But personally I've never cared for humanity standing on it's own, it seems kinda arrogant, and I don't really see a reason to reject Gods, they're pretty useful after all.
>Fulcrum Shift (Reverse Magician Deal)
That'd be something I'd like, the fantastical and humans coexisting freely with less of a power imbalance would probably be the best outcome so I don't have much to say here.

>> No.44481977

>4 Sages
I agree with the sentiment that it doesn't feel like we've met all of them, but I imagine it more comes from the whole "Shitenno" trope that Japanese works love to use.
>Moriya Shrine
I don't necessarily think humanity should reject spirituality and gods, but at the same time, even if you call it arrogant, the reality is that the only rights people have are the ones they can defend. If humans are reliant on gods or whatever else, then they do not have any rights of their own, only privileges granted to them by beings that themselves only originally came to exist as tools of humanity. Inside or outside the barrier, the issues faced in Touhou's setting stem from human tools being prioritized over humans themselves.

I wasn't hungry. "Eat it." I shook my head. "You're pissing me off. Do you need me to hit you?" I raised an eyebrow and said that it couldn't possibly hurt me any more than I'd already been hurt. "For fuck's sake - Tenshi, your turn. I'll take Reimu." Marisa huffed and stomped around to my other side, where Reimu sat with crossed arms. "Eat. It."
"Don't want it." Reimu's voice was maybe just slightly smug about saying it. "Stop wasting my food." I almost laughed. "And you're not going to eat it yourself. You don't have the stomach for that much food."
"You are going to eat this." My attention was brought back to in front of me, where Miss Tenshi was now taking her turn to shove a bowl of rice under my nose. I tried reminding her that I wasn't ill like Reimu. "I don't care. A celestial deigned to make you this food. Are you really going to spur my efforts to take care of you?" My mouth shut abruptly. It was a good point. On my side, I could hear Marisa threatening to never cook a meal at the Shrine again, and to prevent anyone else from doing so. That, it seemed, had shut Reimu up. Perhaps that was related to Miss Tenshi's words about me starving in a day if Reimu had to take care of me.
Begrudgingly, I took the bowl from Miss Tenshi and began eating. I wouldn't pretend it was the greatest bowl of rice I'd ever eaten, but it was warm and it was filling, so it wasn't the worst. Reimu didn't seem to hold out any longer than me and was soon scarfing down her food. She'd finished before I'd even got halfway through mine. "There. You've got to be the most difficult patient I've ever seen. Times like this, I wish Eientei was still an option. At least I could ignore you then." Marisa was grumbling while I finished my food. "Even Kourin's not this bad." I looked down at my bowl quietly. So much seemed to have happened in the last two days that I'd almost forgotten about Eientei. About Fujiwara no Mokou and the Hourai Elixir. Doctor Yagokoro and her experiments.
"Hey, don't stop." Miss Tenshi said to me. "Eat all of it." She looked at me sharply. "Unless you want me to feed it to you." I froze, a clump of rice halfway to my mouth. Slowly, I finished the bite and shook my head. "Good!" She said, hopping to her feet.
It was a sunny morning and I was sat with Reimu on the veranda, trying to absorb as much sunlight as possible. Marisa and Miss Tenshi had arrived early that morning, each with their own harebrained ideas on how to take care of us, and had taken to their joint role as carers rather quickly. It was quite impressive, because according to Reimu, Tenshi was generally 'kind of unbearable'. I had remarked that I'd had little trouble talking to her, which Reimu had told me was probably my amazing luck. After a proper night's sleep, I'd felt far healthier than I had in a long time. When I mentioned it to Miss Tenshi, she had said "It's probably because I'm here." which seemed a little egotistical but for all I knew, being in the presence of a celestial, even an ex-celestial, might have some positive effects by itself.
Reimu was still very weak, but had progressed to being able to stand by herself, though walking was still a little much. I wondered if I would have to carry her everywhere she went, now. She'd - after a lot of arguing - managed to convince Aunn to let her actually get dressed, and so she was now wearing her full Shrine Maiden outfit, which had gone a long way to making her feel normal again. When I looked at her, sitting on the veranda's porch and drinking tea, I imagined that this must be how she spent most of her days when she wasn't ill. But then I'd spot the tremor in her arm as she lifted the tea to her mouth, or the slightly woozy way she turned her head. I didn't know exactly what Yamame had hit her with, but it was clearly doing a number on her and taking its time to clear her system.
Thinking about Yamame Kurodani made me feel uneasy. I was having an awful time trying to reconcile the girl who had offered to make me clothes and had asked me to help treat her injuries after being hit by Reimu's gohei with the knowledge that she was a youkai, which meant that she killed and ate human beings. Human beings who might have had families. Loved ones who would never know what happened to them. I would have to talk to her before long, but for now, I was content to leave that particular bridge unburnt.
My head had finally cleared up, though I doubted my mind was finished rebuilding itself. Each day, I remembered something different. Some extra room that I didn't remember before. A dress in my house's living room that I hadn't been able to identify. Spices in the kitchen that I couldn't remember buying but had somehow never found the time to throw away. The memories were confusing at times, but I did feel better for having them, despite what I'd had to go through to uncover them.

I forgot to put paragraph breaks in the last post sorry

I hadn't really wanted to sit outside, but Reimu had stared at me for a few moments this morning, then deemed me 'too pale' and forced me to come and join her. Still, the view was just as stunning as it was from the dojo on the mountain, and I quite enjoyed hearing Marisa threaten Reimu into eating. "You know, I thought you'd be happier to have someone like me caring for you." Miss Tenshi said to me, frowning. I shook my head and told her that I was perfectly happy with her tender care. I just...had a lot on my mind. "...Ah." Miss Tenshi looked understanding. I looked up at her from where I sat, then asked if she wanted to talk, in private. "Oh. Yeah, I'll lend you my ear." She extended a hand and hauled me to my feet with little effort. I stumbled forward slightly, then she steadied me.

"Hey, Reimu. She's stealing your husband. Shouldn't you- Ouch!" I heard from Marisa. Considering how weak Reimu was, I wondered what she'd done.

Miss Tenshi led me away from Reimu and Marisa, around the front of the shrine. I sat on the steps, and she leaned against the torii gate. "How are you, really?" Miss Tenshi asked as I stared out across the valley. I could see the sunlight reflecting across the canal that ran through the village. I told her that I was struggling to come to terms with what I had seen. "Was it that bad?" She asked, quietly. I had forgotten that she hadn't known exactly what I'd remembered, but she'd been willing to fight Satori right then and there for uncovering those memories. I didn't want to relive the memories by explaining them, so I just told her that I'd seen my family killed by youkai. Miss Tenshi didn't answer immediately. After a moment, she came and sat next to me, putting her arm around my shoulder. Somehow, I found that to be the best response she could have given. I didn't really want words. It was in the distant past, even if it felt like it had only just happened to me. I let her pull me closer. Instead of talking about it, I asked her why she'd been in the underground. "Oh. I, er, took your words when we met on the mountain to heart. I...decided to see Shion." I remembered now. I'd asked her why she hadn't ever tried to contact the girl.

Miss Tenshi took her hat off, fiddling with it while she stared out in the same direction as me. "I didn't know what I'd find. When she was with me, she...had a hero worship problem. She's a god of poverty, so everything around her goes bad eventually, but I have so much luck that it cancelled out. I guess I liked that, so I never really tried to improve anything." I looked over at Miss Tenshi, who was staring off into the distance as if she was as stuck in the past as I was. "Then she left, all of a sudden. At least she left me a note."

She put her hat back on and rested her chin on her interlocked fingers. "I found out she'd gotten caught up in that underground incident. The one with the black water spraying out onto the surface." I remembered that. I'd almost got trapped in an alleyway with the stuff pouring out both ends, but I'd finally managed to break through when there was a split-second lapse in the spray. "So, after you asked me why I hadn't tried to see her before, I decided to finally go through with it. I guess I was just worried that she'd tell me that it was because she was sick of me. I think I told you before. That I can tell that plenty of people here don't like me very much." I reminded her that I owed her my life, and aside from that, she'd helped me out enough times for me to know she wasn't just a rude delinquent. "Ha. Thanks." She was silent for a few moments as we watched the sun rise higher in the sky. "So, I went to Former Hell. I'm not a fan of the place. It smells too much like death, even though all the Shinigami are long gone. The oni are still there, after all." I also wouldn't call myself an amazing fan on the place, but that was more because of the fact that the only time I'd been there, I'd been terrified of an oni knocking my head off and then had my mind unravelled by Satori Komeiji.

"You probably didn't go to the Former Hell Hot Springs Town, did you?" Miss Tenshi asked me, leaning back against the steps. "It's not quite where the Old City is, but it's nearby. It's massive. Quite impressive, really." I didn't even know it existed. I hadn't really thought about sightseeing while I was there. "Shion and her sister, Jo'on, set up a tourist business down there after the incident ended. Yorigami Tourists. They were taking people to the Former Hell of Blood Pools." She shook her head. "I asked Shion, and she told me that it was mostly a racket. I mean, they did take you on a tour, but they had no idea what would happen if you fell into the Former Hell of Blood Pools, but you had to pay in advance, so it didn't matter." That sounded...greedy. "Well, it tied into my question about why Shion had left. Apparently, her sister came to her after hearing that in the outside world, that black water made you rich. That was all Shion needed to hear, so off she went." So it wasn't to do with Miss Tenshi herself, then. "Just because it's popular in the outside world doesn't mean it's popular here, so all they really did was get into a massive amount of debt. I guess Shion forgot how bad her luck was when I wasn't around. The tourism business is to try and pay back some of the debts."

So, I said. It wasn't because of Miss Tenshi herself that Shion left. "No, happily. She doesn't hate me. In fact, she even apologised after her sister heard what had happened. Turns out that Jo'on has some strong feelings on that sort of stuff. No idea why." Well, I was happy for her, at least.

It didn't answer the question of why she'd been sprinting back through the tunnels with a horde of oni chasing after her, though. "Oh. Yeah, that was..." Miss Tenshi looked a little bashful. "Well, I saw the hot springs, and I figured that those oni would like a bit of excitement. I mean, that's their thing, isn't it? So I may have...slightly...dropped a massive keystone into the centre of the water. It was great! Oni and boiling hot water went everywhere. I thought they'd love it." I took what had happened next to mean that they did not. "Er, no, not particularly. I guess a celestial's sense of humour goes over those knuckle-dragger's heads. They began chasing me after that, so I had to drop a couple more keystones on their heads while I ran. I headed through the tunnels, ran into you, and here we are." Miss Tenshi looked at me curiously. "But what were you doing there?"

Now it was my turn to look away. I still wasn't sure how to handle any of this. My relationship with Yamame, especially not that it had been complicated - or rather, made clear - by my hidden memories. "That's where that spider lives. The one who got Reimu...ill..." Miss Tenshi looked like she was putting something together. "Wait, you were there, though. You're the one who brought Reimu back here. So - So, she let you go, but you were already there when Reimu arrived, so..." I could practically see the dots connecting in Miss Tenshi's head. "Ah! You and her!?" She almost yelled. I begged her to keep her voice down. It seemed to take her a moment, but she finally brought her voice back to normal. "You were with her?" I slowly asked her if she was upset. "What? No, why would I be upset? I'm worried." I found myself feeling happy, deep down, at her concern. "But the peach would keep you safe from any bites, right?" I stiffened a little. 'Bites' was feeling like a word I didn't want to hear any time soon. I shakily nodded. "Does she...like you?" Miss Tenshi slowly asked. I stared in frustration for a moment, then nodded. "Wow. You're just full of surprises, aren't you? Even seducing pretty spider girls." I looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "Oh, don't give me that look. I've seen her. She's not exactly a mountain hag." I asked her what she was trying to say. "Look, I can tell what you're thinking. I'm very clever, after all. She's why you've been staring off into space like you've just had a thought for the first time in your life." I muttered that I didn't know what I was thinking anymore. "It's because she's a youkai, isn't it?" I looked over at Miss Tenshi in surprise. "You're struggling with the idea." I grumbled that yes, that was the problem. Miss Tenshi wrapped her arm around my shoulder again. "I think you're worrying too much. Tell you what - Ask Reimu, properly." That sounded like a harrowing prospect. I shook my head. "I'm serious. You might find it's not as big an obstacle as you think."

Miss Tenshi and I sat there for a few minutes longer, but eventually the wind picked up and I began shivering again. I supposed that one night might not have been enough time to recover, and I was beginning to feel a pounding in my head again. I let Miss Tenshi help me up, and over to the veranda, where I found that Reimu had also disappeared. I pulled open the sliding door, and found that Reimu had already succumbed to exhaustion and fallen asleep again. I could hear Marisa in the kitchen, presumably cleaning the bowls we'd used earlier. Miss Tenshi looked down at Reimu, then rolled her eyes. "Looks like your services are needed." She told me, nodding at Reimu, who did look a little cold. "I'll go and help out the witch, because I'm just nice like that." She clapped me on the shoulder. "Remember what I said, though. Advice from a celestial should always be taken gratefully." She turned with a wave, heading to the kitchen, where I could already hear her bickering with Marisa.

I sighed heavily and pulled my upper clothing off, then headed over to the futon. Reimu had been kind enough to take all of the covers, so I laid down beside her, then carefully manipulated her fingers until they fell loose from the covers. I pulled them over myself as well, and even while asleep, Reimu managed to hit me for it. She had pulled her ribbon and hair tubes out, and when I tried to get a pillow under my head, she grumbled and tried to hit me a second time. I finally resorted to rolling her over, then shuffling her forward until my head could comfortably fit on the pillow. I wrapped my arms around her waist, noting that she'd pulled her kimono off again.

Finally, I fell asleep, listening to Miss Tenshi and Marisa argue in the next room.

Tenshi, surprisingly seems to have finally ruled herself out this race. But she does prove what a great friend she is to anon and holy shit the final battle for anon is almost looking like it'll come down to a Reimu v Yamame rematch. I'm starting to think for her playful denial and aggression at any hint of it, Reimu really is starting to warm to and even fall for anon. It's not gonna end as well there as Tenshi seems to think what that discussion happens.

..unless that is Tenshi's plan?

>> No.44485053

Its nice that anon is having an open mind with Yamame. As long as she's willing to listen, I think it'll all work out fine.
