I deleted my anki deck and started a new one. This time I also add translations or alternative use for kanjis and I don't torture myself getting this perfectly right, if I remember how to read the thing of its meaning, i hit hard. It's much better this way and i like reading and mining again. I still probably wouldn't pass n10, but it's about the journey.

You will get a faster time per card as you use anki more and some words you can do in sub 1 second times. I try to keep it under 6 seconds per card which is 10 cards per minute. This includes new cards. So, if I have 200 cards to do in a day, I know to schedule at least 20 minutes to do anki. Lately, it's been going even faster, 15 or even 20 cards per minute on easier days with a bunch of cards I near instantly know.
If you are spending nearly 30 minutes per day in your first week, it will probably go up to around an hour of anki a day once anki stabilizes. Whenever you change "new cards per day", wait about 2 weeks to really feel the effect of it. After a few weeks, your cards per day should be fairly stable and you can decrease/increase from there.
Since you are new, you can pretty easily start off with 50 cards a day for a week or two, then decrease it to 20, wait a few weeks to see how that feels and increase or decrease from there. The reason is that the early words are words you probably already know if you consumed any japanese media at all or the kanji are so simple/recognizable that they are easier to memorize, things like 一, 二, 三, 人, etc.. Plus, when you are starting, you have very few previous cards to review so you can spend all that time on new cards.

I think when you're first starting what's most important is having the patience to look up words for a while + long periods of uninterrupted audio so your brain can build up the japanese machine. the first goal other than memorizing the common words so you can get out of 10% comprehsion, I think, is developing the ability to hear when one word ends and the next one starts. Because of these things I think you want to sometimes look up everything (get vocab fast) and sometimes just let it play (build up the word parsing computer). Start an SOL by looking up everything in the first 2 episodes, cause the stuff in the first couple episodes is very likely to show up again and again throughout the season and get reinforced, then let the rest of it play

>so should I just keep watching random garbage SoL with the assumption that core2.3k+picking up random words from context or infrequent lookups will help?
why do you think infrequent lookups will help? you should lookup as much as possible (use yomichan) especially in the beginning when you won't be able to guess from context what a word means a lot of the time
if you think that's too tiring, find one series to watch where you look up everything you don't know and another series that you can just leave running
just be aware that you'll make bigger gains if you actually look shit up

>> No.44436816

don't waste your time on immersion early on. All those hours spent on immersion early on could be used learning more vocab so you can get to do actually useful immersion. You learn the vocab with anki, but with immersion you really internalize the words' meanings and nuances. You can't really learn with immersion until you have a certain amount of vocab, and that varies based on the material.

But thinking of it on a larger scale...
>looking up every word I don't know in every chapter I read for an entire month
I can't imagine the effect of looking up every word doesn't compound and result in way more gains when you look at every daily immersion session across months. the amount of unknown words decreases exponentially once you reach a critical mass

well I've always looked up everything and never used yomichan so do I win
but anyway my point is when you've built up a ton of lookups of words you very vaguely, faintly remember, you get to a point where you'll encounter something littered with words you don't really remember but you've looked them all up before, and you're basically building up acquisition of tons of words at once instead of hard memorizing a smaller selection, which never results in true acquisition until you encounter the word at least several more times anyway, so you might as well just look up em all up so your brain at least gets a more solid empty dictionary entry to fill up for all of the words. if remembering a lookup was enough to acquire the word you might be right though. in any case we're probably talking about maximizing

>> No.44436956

but you can also only do as much time as you have stamina for without whitenoising and increase it gradually. you'll still be able to catch up with those 5h people once you can read all day because 99% of them will have quit and the remaining 1% will have mostly stopped immersing because they found a new thing to be autistically obsessed for a period about.

The odor of your feet can vary from one foot to the other for several reasons. Here are some potential explanations:

Sweat and Moisture Imbalance: One foot might sweat more than the other due to differences in activity levels or the way you distribute your weight when standing or walking. Increased sweating can create a more conducive environment for bacteria to thrive, leading to a stronger odor.

Shoe Preferences: If you wear one pair of shoes more frequently or if one shoe is made from materials that don't allow for proper ventilation, it can contribute to increased odor in that foot. Shoes that don't breathe well can trap moisture and encourage bacterial growth.

Fungal or Bacterial Infections: If one foot has a fungal or bacterial infection, it can produce a stronger odor than the other. These infections can lead to an imbalance in the microbial population on your skin, causing an unpleasant smell.

Hygiene Practices: Differences in your hygiene routine, such as how thoroughly you clean and dry each foot, can impact the odor. If one foot receives less attention during grooming, it may develop a stronger odor.

Skin Conditions: Certain skin conditions, like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) or bromodosis (chronic foot odor), can affect one foot more than the other. These conditions may require specific treatments or interventions.

Diet and Lifestyle: Your diet and overall lifestyle can affect body odor, including foot odor. If there are differences in your diet or activities that affect one foot more than the other, it can lead to variations in foot odor.

Injury or Trauma: If one foot has experienced injury or trauma, it may have a different microbial composition or circulation, which can influence odor.

To address the issue of one foot smelling worse than the other, consider the following steps:

Maintain Good Hygiene: Make sure to clean and dry both feet thoroughly, paying equal attention to each one.

Rotate Shoes: Try to wear different shoes on alternate days to allow each pair to air out.

Use Antiperspirants or Foot Powders: Apply antiperspirants or foot powders to help control sweating and reduce odor.

Check for Infections: If you suspect a fungal or bacterial infection, consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Consider Your Diet and Lifestyle: Evaluate if there are any dietary or lifestyle factors contributing to foot odor, and make necessary changes.

Choose Breathable Footwear: Opt for shoes made from breathable materials, such as leather or mesh, to help reduce moisture buildup.

If the problem persists or worsens despite taking these steps, it's advisable to consult a healthcare provider or a podiatrist for a more thorough evaluation and personalized recommendations. They can help identify any underlying issues and provide appropriate treatment options.

>> No.44441911

適切 is formal and means the action or the thing addresses the situation well. Examples are 適切な対応、適切な額、etc.

適当 can be used in a similar manner to 適切, but the "quality" of the action or thing could be lower than 適切. E.g. one can say 「適切な対応とまでは言えないが、適当な対応をしたといえる」but not「適当な対応とまでは言えないが、適切な対応をしたといえる」because 適切な対応 implies a slightly higher quality. Importantly, 適当 can also be used in a different meaning (sometimes written as テキトー) in which case it means "sloppy", "halfhearted" etc.

相応 can imply even lower quality, and means more like "matches the situation" or "can satisfy the requirement". E.g. if someone says 相応の対応をしなさい, then it can mean "do the minimum appropriate". However the emphasis is on the "matching" part. Hence, if the corresponding whatever thing has a high quality, then the matching 相応な thing will also have a high quality (e.g. 事業部長の身分に相応な待遇で迎えねば).

相当 has a slightly different flavor and it means "equivalent". E.g. コウモリの皮膜は鳥の羽に相当する。You can't say 相当な対応 for example. Importantly, it can also be used to mean "considerable amount of", e.g. 相当な数の人がいる

Livakivi proves that method doesn't really matter. In 4 years he went from 0 japanese to being able to read and listen to nearly anything without a dictionary. He can converse in japanese, with a thick accent and long thinking times, but he can still converse and the other person doesn't have to talk with simple baby talk to them. It took him 2 (two) whole years to finish the core 6k deck, wasted 6 months on duoloingo, didn't immerse until after he was done with the 6k deck, never did any output, and he is still fluent.
Literally just do your anki reps and eventually immerse with sentence mining and you will be fluent. If Livakivi didn't waste time on duolingo, did the 6k deck in a reasonable amount of time, and immersed earlier, he could've done it in 3 years, maybe 2.

Do you mark anki as wrong if you remember the meaning, but get the reading off by shortening or lengthening a vowel sound. For example
強調 is きょうちょう but you remember the reading as
きょちょう or
きょうちょ or
きょちょ
I am currently inconsistent. Sometimes I mark it wrong and sometimes I don't which is probably bad since I should at least be consistent. My internal voice reading the voice isn't using perfect mora timing so I can't even tell which one my internal voice said when thinking.

J-E especially so, but even J-J dictionaries as do E-E dictionaries and all monolingual dictionaries have the same problem. No definition is perfect, it just tries to get at the concept that word evokes. So, no, it isn't a simple yes no question.

It took me a week to finally get hiragana somewhat memorized, and I haven't even touched katakana yet. Apparently if you aren't a retard you should be able to memorize hiragana perfectly in 3 hours, so should I just cut my losses and accept that I'll never be high iq enough to learn Japanese?

It matters immensely. Watch what YOU like.Don't fall for the "you gotta watch insultingly retarded slice of life for 4 years first" meme.

If you're not interested in what you're watching you will not absorb anything.
>should I try to 100% it by looking up every word?
God No. Accept ambiguity while watching shit. Watch it repeatedly and you'll understand more and more each time, but don't go pausing the show every 5 seconds to look shit up. Just roll with it.

This is one of the most commonly asked questions here and it's summed up by matt in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LIz-Wbt4us

>> No.44446449

>why do you think infrequent lookups will help?
Because the point of listening practice is to listen. if you're pausing constantly you're never going to be able to understand the spoken language.

-Reading is for learning new words and grammar
-Listening is for improving your listening comprehension.

They are vastly different skills that must be trained separately.

and they aren't "vastly different". it's the same language and the same words, just through different medium. if you can read kana-only at the speed of speech, you only need very minimal fundamental reading practice to have listening comprehension.

...^ EVERYFAIRYY IT"S TRULY OVER NOW: IT HAS BEGAN...
MY PARENTS SADLY FELT $ ANTIFAIRI CORRUPTION AND SAID THAT I AM AN ULTRA DISSAPOINTMENT AND FAILURE qwq THEY SAID THAT THEY MAY NOT ALLOW ME TO STAY IN THEIR HOUSE ANYMORE AND I WILL HAVE TO MOVE SOMEWHERE AND START WORKING BUT DO NOT KNOW HOW ...qwq

I HAVE LEFT HARAJUKU LAFORET CASTELL INN JAPAN TO LIVE OFF MY PARENTS IN RUSSIA AS A FAIRYY PRINCESS BECAUSE I CAN NOT GROW UP AND WILL BE KID FOREVER21 HAVE MAIDEN ZERO MONEY FROM MY YAY2PLAY GAME SO FAR
everyfairyy IT"S OVER... I AM GOING TO WORK(but I do not know how)
the summer is almost over and my parents said that i should consider to visit public mental illlum to obtain at least some small passive income per month "yayly" and to stimmulate me to star working they said that if no money will be maiden from me they will call THEM and I will be caught by beast666 antifairi vulgars with 99.9percent SADLY I did not want to write that but that is how things really are I do not know what 2do I know it is a trap and my parents want onl best for me and may be it is like just a joke but it is ultra scary for me anyyay as a fairyy princess of ypony because I ve had to left my favorite castell LAFORET HARAJUKU to save my innocence and much more mentall yayness included but almost everything working agains fairyyy comunnity there is like no opportunity for at least survivng as a fairyy from my perspective as a fairyy princess I can not ask for help since everyfairyy have helped yayly not once but I wnat2 say thay I may...^ btw I ultra like my life in Russia as a fairyy after moving(evacuated) here and my home country Ypony^ from Japan so I am so grateful and yayful there is nowhere to move and nothing to lose anymore for me as an IMMORTEL fairyyAngelic
^

>u got deported lmao
I did not. The truth is that I have departed mysel smoothly)live on camera&yayly)
>Did you manage to get asylum in japan or not, mate? YAY

I did not want to. I am in Russia 4ever now(living off my parents for now)
Because visa or asylum(WITCH seems2almost imposible to obtain& work out with) in JP government require every alien to work more than 4 hours daily or marry which is unsuitable for me. My VIRGINITY(small kinder work hours included) comes FIRST
I am berry priveleged now since
I have maiden my own citizenship and home country as a fairyy princess of Ypony^
