I deleted my anki deck and started a new one. This time I also add translations or alternative use for kanjis and I don't torture myself getting this perfectly right, if I remember how to read the thing of its meaning, i hit hard. You will get a faster time per card as you use anki more and some words you can do in sub 1 second times. I try to keep it under 6 seconds per card which is 10 cards per minute. This includes new cards. So, if I have 200 cards to do in a day, I know to schedule at least 20 minutes to do anki. Lately, it's been going even faster, 15 or even 20 cards per minute on easier days with a bunch of cards I near instantly know.
If you are spending nearly 30 minutes per day in your first week, it will probably go up to around an hour of anki a day once anki stabilizes. Whenever you change "new cards per day", wait about 2 weeks to really feel the effect of it. After a few weeks, your cards per day should be fairly stable and you can decrease/increase from there.
Since you are new, you can pretty easily start off with 50 cards a day for a week or two, then decrease it to 20, wait a few weeks to see how that feels and increase or decrease from there. The reason is that the early words are words you probably already know if you consumed any japanese media at all or the kanji are so simple/recognizable that they are easier to memorize, things like 一, 二, 三, 人, etc.. Plus, when you are starting, you have very few previous cards to review so you can spend all that time on new cards.

I think when you're first starting what's most important is having the patience to look up words for a while + long periods of uninterrupted audio so your brain can build up the japanese machine. the first goal other than memorizing the common words so you can get out of 10% comprehsion, I think, is developing the ability to hear when one word ends and the next one starts. Because of these things I think you want to sometimes look up everything (get vocab fast) and sometimes just let it play (build up the word parsing computer). Start an SOL by looking up everything in the first 2 episodes, cause the stuff in the first couple episodes is very likely to show up again and again throughout the season and get reinforced, then let the rest of it play

why do you think infrequent lookups will help? you should lookup as much as possible (use yomichan) especially in the beginning when you won't be able to guess from context what a word means a lot of the time
if you think that's too tiring, find one series to watch where you look up everything you don't know and another series that you can just leave running
just be aware that you'll make bigger gains if you actually look shit up

don't waste your time on immersion early on. All those hours spent on immersion early on could be used learning more vocab so you can get to do actually useful immersion. You learn the vocab with anki, but with immersion you really internalize the words' meanings and nuances. You can't really learn with immersion until you have a certain amount of vocab, and that varies based on the material.

but anyway my point is when you've built up a ton of lookups of words you very vaguely, faintly remember, you get to a point where you'll encounter something littered with words you don't really remember but you've looked them all up before, and you're basically building up acquisition of tons of words at once instead of hard memorizing a smaller selection, which never results in true acquisition until you encounter the word at least several more times anyway, so you might as well just look up em all up so your brain at least gets a more solid empty dictionary entry to fill up for all of the words. if remembering a lookup was enough to acquire the word you might be right though. in any case we're probably talking about maximizing

ultimately it just depends on how much time you're able to dedicate in the beginning. if you want to start with 5 hours a day then yeah, you'll have to whitenoise for much of that time because it'd take superhuman stamina to make effort at comprehensions for that long at that level.
but you can also only do as much time as you have stamina for without whitenoising and increase it gradually. you'll still be able to catch up with those 5h people once you can read all day because 99% of them will have quit and the remaining 1% will have mostly stopped immersing because they found a new thing to be autistically obsessed for a period about.

Livakivi proves that method doesn't really matter. In 4 years he went from 0 japanese to being able to read and listen to nearly anything without a dictionary. He can converse in japanese, with a thick accent and long thinking times, but he can still converse and the other person doesn't have to talk with simple baby talk to them. It took him 2 (two) whole years to finish the core 6k deck, wasted 6 months on duoloingo, didn't immerse until after he was done with the 6k deck, never did any output, and he is still fluent.
Literally just do your anki reps and eventually immerse with sentence mining and you will be fluent. If Livakivi didn't waste time on duolingo, did the 6k deck in a reasonable amount of time, and immersed earlier, he could've done it in 3 years, maybe 2.
