In terms of the numbers lost from COVID restrictions and the Big Sight maintenance I don't really see those being a sign of permanent recline assuming the cultural motivations were in place.

But the internet as a publishing/sale platform regardless of the particular services has greatly widened the supply and demand for independent one-off artist works of varying IP infringement and legal consequences.
The precedent which Comiket more-or-less formalized has gone far beyond the actual convention at this point, to its detriment when new styles of consumption, sale, fan/artist interaction don't translate to comiket well.

Anon, Touhou has like multiple Events throughout the year as it was flooding Comiket. Seriously, there is one in Kyoto 9/3, one in osaka the following month, Retaisai fall which had to pop up due to spring overflow, another in Nagoya, some smaller ones around southern Japan and tokyo.

I can't tell if this is a meme or if people seriously think comiket is the ONLY time new shit comes out.
