- The first stage of the "Summer Event" has started. The 4 maps in the MO are now available.
- There are 5 new ships. 2 as rewards (Shirakumo and Inagi) with the other 3 as drops (Salmon, Asashi, and Kaiboukan 22)
- Another round of summer CGs have been enabled. Haruna K2 B/C has a new CG.
- June ranking rewards have been distributed. They are the Do 217 K-2 + Fritz-X, Fw 190 A-5 Kai (Skilled), Walrus, and 12cm Single High-angle Gun Mount Model E Kai
-Amatsun has received her Kai-II. It requires level 73, 1BP, and 1AR.
-As of the Feb 28, 2020 maintenance, due to critical DDoS attacks, measures have been taken that requires players from certain countries to use a Japanese IP address to connect to the Login servers. After getting to the start screen it's possible to disconnect from the VPN and continue playing without it. If you still encounter connection issues try clearing your cache and changing your time zone to JST. These countermeasures will remain until further notice. EN EO now bypasses the block. Another possible workaround is using https://github.com/Tibowl/KCCacheProxy

The problem with Minisubs is that they were never used like KanColle depicts. Pretty much all Minisubs were used against forces in the shallows(especially harbors) not the open ocean. It's probably why in addition to the Americans sometimes depth charging them, the Kaiten irl(as they are hollowed out torpedoes that became suicidal minisubs) tended to have a low success rate.
Perhaps the minisubs and the Kaiten would have seen a somewhat higher success rate in an actual invasion of Japan especially against transport ships but going against warships is asking for failure.

I always interpreted it as smaller ships representing several ships each. That's the only way fleet compositions make sense. Plus you have cases where ships like Take (4 torpedoes) have a higher torpedo stat than Choukai (16 torpedoes + reloads).

I hadn't though about it before but that does make sense. having a fleet of 4BB2DD does seem odd, but if you then assume each DD represents 3 or 4 instead of just one it sounds a lot better. There's nothing in-game that says it putting a DD in a fleet doesn't mean she isn't actually representing a small flotilla either.
I know you could have all of the Asashio class in one combined fleet and that would counter previous, but a combined fleet lets you bring two identical ships so I don't think that counts.

Consider that they originally were defined as scouts which was the same designation as the Navigatori-class of DDs. Then by a royal decree in 1938 Italy abolished this class and everything that belonged to it above 3000t was to be called cruisers and anything below became destroyers. The Capitani Romani were a couple tons above the threshold.

TL;DR: it was a purely bureaucratic matter.

What's more the Capitani Romani were developed starting from the blueprints of Tashkent, the DD Italy built for Russia.
Finally any book that talks more in depth about this class besides mentioning them and giving them a quick rundown will always specify that these ships were closer in nature to DDs than CLs.
