Run felt like a fluke. The final match was sufficiently embarrassing that I feel like it probably was, and I don't think I can do better.
So it's somebody else's shot. I already talked to someone who agreed to caretake the team (if you're not familiar with cup terminology, meaning they'll keep the team alive but without actively managing during games), so /jp/ will still return in some form for Winter '24.

/m/ here. I'm glad you guys were the team we faced in the final. That final inspired me to try playing a Touhou game for the first time and I was wondering which game is the best to start with. Should I start playing in release order or is there a specific game that is recommended as a decent starting point?

>> No.44317160

>>44317145
Start with any one of them from 4 to 8. The most beginner friendly games are probably 5 and 7 as they give you the most resources to work with and are generally pretty easy on normal. 4 and 5 do require a PC-98 emulator to play, but setting one up isn't difficult at all.

>> No.44317217

>>44317145
Generally speaking nobody will argue against Imperishable Night aside from it gives you bad habits or too many lives and bombs in the options and gameplay, but if your goal is to play games then you can just relearn them.

I wouldn't recommend any PC98 game to start if only for the fact that setting up an emulator properly can take a lot more work than just booting up an executable, and I wouldn't recommend EoSD since it's the transitional-period game. Even if it is the one you've heard the most about. Perfect Cherry Blossom and Mountain of Faith are other really good picks for a variety of reasons, but so long as you don't play Subterranean Animism or LoLK you'll be fine.

>>44317145
If you're a purist and want to commit to trying all of them out, just start with the first one. It's nothing like the others and it might be frustrating (or fun) to play at first, but you'll learn a lot about how the series has evolved over the years.
If you just want to give the series a try to see if you like it, I strongly recommend playing the fourth game. It's one of the easiest, while not being too easy for a beginner, it has a nice retro feel and you can learn the basics from it.
Whichever the choice, you can play them by grabbing the Touhou98 pack from nyaa, which comes with the emulator, games and settings already set and ready to play with a simple double click.

>>44317217
With the pack mentioned above the games can be played by booting executables, there's one for each game.

At absolute most the only vtuber there should be Kizuna Ai since she seems to be the undisputed face and originator of that, the rest have to go, and you should get rid of all the 3DPD garbage. I understand they make for easier models to make but that doesn't really change my stance. I understand wanting to have a person for each general, but what generals are and aren't /jp/ are pretty obvious, though its also not that serious given how it's just a game. Throw in an IM@S girl or two, bring back the japanese bird eating spaghetti, and maybe even a guy whose face is just the historic route 66 since I don't recall that being a part of the team at any point.

Get rid of the vtubers and put in a Fumo, the Fumo general thread is there for like a few years now

I'm not against 3DPD thread reps on principle but the ones we have now are unbelievably boring, just plain names without any joke or meme attached to them. I think when generals are polled they should come up with actual funny names or model ideas

I'm actually just a guy who's been helping with aesthetics (like preparing billy's new model).
Have you contacted him already, and through which means?

Oh, since you are working on aesthetics, could we maybe have Meido's old full body model back? Feels weird seeing her with a PES dude body

Sure, I guess it got lost in the transition between PES17 and 18 with its new model format, but fortunately converting them is easier nowadays.
