since the author seems to be at least minimally familiar with Freud/Jung, I wonder if that has influenced the narrative in other ways
I wish these Western literary critics would talk about marginal bullshit like light novels more, this way I'm left to think for myself...
the thing about Misaki is though, she is clearly a fictional character, in the sense that the others are somewhat realistic and likely informed by the author's life experience
Satou is obviously the self-insert, senpai and kouhai and taichou are believable and they have to have some sort of inspiration, so probably real people the author knows
Misaki though... a Japanese high school dropout who randomly acquires a fixation on some loser in total social withdrawal, there's no way this person exists in real life
the two afterwords Takimoto wrote seem to corroborate this, so I have to conclude that she is inspired mostly by other works of fiction, vinnies or god knows what
I realize this becomes "diegetic" in the sense that Satou has the same doubts in the story, and I'm not sure what conclusion you can draw from all this
maybe that she's the element that makes the narrative fictional instead of semi-autobiographical

Anime Misaki is literally an angel and her only sin was saying "useless NEET" to the useless NEET.
Novel Misaki was honestly the same, but being ambiguous about if she lied about her past or not.
Manga Misaki was straight-up fanfiction, a total psycho bitch.
Then again, novel/manga Satou was also a druggie and an unironic paedophile. The same goes for manga/novel Yamazaki, but he's a sociopath plus he also fucks a tranny...
So, I would say, in terms of being a piece of human trash:

Manga goes wild, it only happens there. Out of the three pieces of media, I would say the manga is the weaker one. It tends to be more of a dark comedy, so it kills any serious/climatic moment from the story.
Just read the novel if you want to get more from NHK. Don't bother with the manga.
