Does /jp/ use gamepads for their shmups? If so, what kind? Using ps3 controller here, but feels kind of clumsy when it comes to precise movements. In before keyboardfags

I use a keyboard, but now that I bought a wired XBox 360 controller I'm tempted to plug it in, configure the button mapping and see how it handles.

>> No.4418637

Yeah, I use a controller. It's not that bad, man.

my dexterity is terrible, and I can't use a keyboard worth a shit

>> No.4418645

keyboard is better for touhou, but I've been using a gamepad lately sometimes. I can't find a good focus button. Settled on L1.

>> No.4418647

I've used my lovely gamepad in the past, but I never went back once I grew used to using my keyboard. Feels precise, man. Even though I still suck.

I use a PS2 controller and square for focus, with x as bomb and a shoulder button as fire works pretty well.

It has been 15 years and I will never get used to firing with a shoulder button. Run 'n Gun is the best.

OP here
Joystick sounds kind of attractive since it's hard to 'tap' a gamepad stick with just your thumb.. I have a hard time doing the pixel by pixel adjustments for certain spellcards. Keyboard is kind of a wash because I'm trying to avoid another bad flare of carpal tunnel 400 days played mmorpg time feels great on your hands

also forgot to ask: are you linking a specific joystick you are recommending or just making a general statement?

Keyboardfag here, why are stage 4's of hard mode so frustrating?

>> No.4418769

I use a PS2-clone pad from Logitech. Square is fire, X is focus, R1 is bomb. The D-pad is precise enough for fighters, so it works well for shmups. Although for spell cards that require a lot of circular movement, I usually jump down to the analog stick, which never disappoints.

Stage 4s are always "loli kill u now" stages. They have the most bullshit screen filling waves of bullets.

Fixed.

Also keyboard fag. Also not very good regardless.

Time investment.

First response to the multiple input issue on the keyboard was to use a speedpad, and I've stayed with that ever since. Considering picking up a stick because of the hassle in quickly changing directions moving up/down, among other things.

No issues with circular movements but that only pertains to grazewhoring Deadly Dance. I haven't even attempted the circling shit coa pulls off on the Marisa-C Extra run.

I like PS2 controllers the best (I'm assuming that's the same as PS3). The analog toggle gives you the most control. If you want to get really serious get yourself a sanwa stick. I have one myself, but I've never found a responsive enough usb toggle to make it worth it.
