Try the singleplayer games first.

Playing without knowing what you do is not only frustrating for yourself but also for your opponents, a player that left because he couldn't ron for his no Yaku hand or because someone ron'd his discard just kills the whole fun for everyone.

Usually, a game lasts around 30 minutes, so please, if you're not going to stay until the end, respect the other players and don't join a new game.

Also keep in mind that Mahjong is more a game of "not losing" than straightforward winning.
Furthermore you play with 3 other people and luck plays a big part in it, so don't expect to win more than 1 out 4 games, especially not as a beginner.

That's not Suu Ankou. Daisangen is the second most common in Tenhou. But most of the time it's completed because people keep playing like retards even after someone called two pons of dragons.

It's funny because that's exactly how it happened. God damn I thought I was fucking dead though. Only had 1100 points. Plus I couldn't tsumo or ron off anyone but the leader because then the game would end. Total beginners luck though.

Quick question regarding honors. Considering a situation where I wanna get rid of them, should I deal stuff like dragons and round wind tiles very early or hold on to them until I'm in tenpai?

There's two approaches to it. You can either deal them early, ensuring that no one will have a chance to get them (unless they started with the pair in their hand), On the other hand, you can hold on to them, delaying the hands of those who are waiting to call pon on that dragon/wind, or hoping that you might be able to pick up that wind yourself.

If you know you're going for a pin fu/tan yao hand, feel free to empty them. If the tile you drew doesn't help your hand (ie a 1 or 9 that isn't close to anything you have), the wind may be worth holding until you're 1 shan ten / ten pai.

You'll get a feel for it as you play more, as the situations will vary.
