That's what I was referring to, they talk about how in protest to how much money was being spent on dog shelters people would behead dogs and leave the heads in public places as a way to protest the taxation policy, so the dog shelters ironically made life way less safe for dogs.

I would have loved to play the original version but unfortunately it doesn't have voices and as far as I know there is no patch to add them like in YU-NO. Although the graphics are worse than the original I wouldn't call them ugly, in fact they are quite nice and I think they are a thousand times better than the SS version or the atrocity that is the 2003 version.

Waiting for h-suki to add the NoCD patch that I found to the game that only works on windows 7 32-bit at the highest, so it can work on at least windows 10.
Like anyone is gonna play it anyway, but maybe the fact that it cannot be played on modern computers is preventing more people from playing it. I wouldn't have been able to play if I didn't find the patch. Even downloaded a VM and installed windows 7, which was how I found out that it only worked on 32bit and not 64 bit myself.
Well worth all the effort though very glad I didnt give up in playing it, this game is 10/10 so far, though I haven't done all the routes yet.

The machine looks at language itself. Within just a few years it's become capable to output something closer to prose. Before it was incomprehensible gibberish. Machines need more data to understand complex Japanese prose. ChatGPT is also proof that feeding it data on characters and setting can get it to temporarily learn what a story is about and translate within that context. All the machines need is more data and faster processing. Not much longer until trannylators are entirely replaced by automated processes.

First of all you need to define what you mean by "perfect" since your entire argument lays on top of that. There is no "perfect" or I should say "single golden standard" when it comes to knowing a language. You can come up with some sort of metric, say "this person knows the most words" sure, but that remains irrelevant when it comes to define what it means to learn, ingrain and understand a language.
What you're talking about is keeping yourself from exploring meaning from a different language, secluding yourself to English. What you need to understand is that it is impossible to understand all nuances of life through only one language, especially more so in the context of reading something created in a specific language you don't know. So MTL will never be "perfect", there will always be a wall that it cannot go through no matter how better it gets at interpreting Japanese into English.

That reminded me how i was trying to play Death stranding in japanese and the translation was so damn awful, really makes you realize that english and japanese can't really work out in either of ways
Even their choices ot seiyuus was like one of the worst i ever saw, they didn't even try to make any fitting roles outside of sam

Same experience here trying to non-JP games in Japanese. Strategy games (like Tower Defense) can be fine though since it's mostly unemotional.

Sometimes jp localization can be better than the original (specially in some rpgs with magical settings) but when it comes to the american oriented stuff it just stops working altogether
