Hiro does a lot with his life actually. I was going to look up a Japanese source and translate, but this NYT article gives him a pretty fair shake: https://archive.is/sS48r

>>43982371
My view on it as well.
moot's actions beyond keeping the site running became more and more detached from the original Western imageboard ethos, especially in the early 10s when he clearly was having an ethics/moral conflict with the more socially-odious parts of the site. Don't argue with me about that particularity if merely, read his old blogposts and QAs. And I don't see why anyone on /jp/ would have much love for him given the history of the board..

Hiro has nothing to do with anons directly unless he started browsing regularly and posting in English, and he has the sense to see that for a site with a community like 4chan, admins/mods should have little influence beyond what they contribute. While most of us here understand this at least implicitly, many tech CEOs seemingly don't or don't care over just milking the community as an asset, as seen by most other big-name online "social space" or user-contribution-driven site.

Not that Hiroyuki is a saint. Not evil, but if he has no interest in you as a person but can get something out of you he seems to have little qualms using you like a tool.
The article above details his legal funtimes and general amorality, but anecdotally I was talking with a guy who at least claimed to be working with Niconico during the English push, and nothing about his background and story made me doubt it. From the way he described it, Hiro was quite resourceful in using his international contacts and resources to manage his business when he had to be outside of Japan for periods of time for legal reasons, and Hiro told this dude to lie about the country he was in to others to avoid any heat.
I really regret not prying him for more anecdotes.

Antics can be extremely fun but also dumb as shit. One of the most fun imageboards I've ever used (that I no longer) had tons of fun antics from 3D posts to image juggling. It helped that the owner was also the developer behind the IBs software and a great programmer in general.

All things considered, I'm glad that Hiro never intervenes. I've seen way too many imageboards rise and fall because of overzealous admins/board owners. Leaving 4chan be is in-line with its spirit of chaos and ensures that huge community-breaking decisions aren't made. You can't imagine how happy I am that the morons related to 8chs operation aren't within 100 miles of this place or its administration.

What community bond you see that is being broken?
Like, I've been here since about the time /jp/ was first made, and with idols and vtubers it seems more like community-flooding than community-breaking, which until it starts breaking the rules is actually up to the anons as an whole to determine out what topics get the most engagement, and therefore presence.

You and I only have our individual impacts, but if it is the case that a sufficient number of anons on /jp/ (or any board) don't actually care about subtopic X or Y, the mods trying to force them are unlikely to do anything but egg them on.

The only positive solution that comes to mind is >>43983117 , but that also would depend on /jp/sies not being so utterly autistic that having to switch to a new board name and letting /jp/ be as it is would be considered a slight. I hope that is the case.

You should be happy he's doing nothing, because he was the one who wanted to make an official 4chan *uber years back, long before the boardraping happened. It would be way worse if he didn't give up on it almost immediately or if he did it a year later. Sort the archive by modposts too if you wanna suffer.
As for idolshit that was happening long before he even took the wheel.

>or the staff's complete radio silence as boards turn into putrid dog shit
Not much they can do.

Actually I lurk 5ch from time to time and they say the same thing happened to their site. 20 years ago 2channel had some amazing boards apparently like the anime board and news4VIP (with tons of OC), but now the only popular boards are shitholes and the rest (over a thousand) are unused. It seems like they used to have pretty tight communities whereas now it's just random stuff people post out of boredom

The only good communities left online at this point are private, I'm sure. I've searched through way too many
