Is Mystia's Izakaya the most successful Touhou doujin game of recent times?

She was never that prominent in the first place despite being playable in an official game and when it comes to fan media there's nothing wrong with overlapping roles and they kind of do it differently anyway. Miyoi's at a human village bar and drinks are more emphasized, while Mystia is more about a stand and is more notorious for food (grilled lampreys) than drinks.

I think so. Other two very good games by the same develpers of Mystia's Izakaya are Touhou: Blooming Chaos 1 & 2. You should check'em out on Steam, friend.

Mystia is one of the 2hus with the most character traits; she is a night sparrow youkai but is not counted among the youkai beasts for some reason, she sings and makes people blind, her name evokes a random German legend, she is the owner of a food cart she made in order to stop chicken consumption and she is friends with Kyouko in a punk band!
And all that is for a relatively unpopular character.

It's honestly hard to say because if you define success as purely monetarily, it's Luna Nights which hit a quarter million plus got a Gamepass spot long after it first came out. And if you count success as purely by word of mouth than I don't think anything will top the likes of the Aquastyle games, TPDP, Touhouvania, maybe Super Marisa World and Soccer 2 so on and so forth. The games definitely had a huge impact and I don't wanna try to undercut it on any level but quantifying these things is to put it simply; fucking impossible. Fangames didn't even exist outside of 'kets and Reitaisai's until like 2012 and even then only really started hitting the big digital storefronts probably five years later.

I think it's because it managed to break the mold so to speak, much like Luna Nights, where the source wasn't as important as the game. Maybe? I'd think up some other better things to say but it's both 3am and I don't wanna make a thread about Mystia entirely just about her fangame so I'll leave it at that. I'm just so happy to see so much good can still happen for 2hu nowadays.

That's rude, anon. Just because they're so much smarter than Mystia that she cannot follow their conversations doesn't mean that Rumia and Cirno aren't also Mystia's friends.
They're talking about Agatha Chris Q's new novel. Cirno believes that the culprit froze the body to throw off the time of death, while Rumia is convinced that the culprit ate the body and then created a facsimile to establish an alibi.
