I'm from south america but there are still some. They're usually just used by boomers or for people in a hurry that need to print some documents for their work. In San Bernardo (A beach tourist city) I saw some "GAMER" Cybercafé. it was slightly overpriced and it didn't have any pirated games (Weird, considering we're in fucking latinoamerica). I've heard that in Asia they are still strong because they always update their hardware, so you can play the newests games.
And well, In Japan they're still big as ever

Don't worry, I'll keep making AMVs. I recently released this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7h8_wsJwyI , AMVs are still being made but the ones that usually get all the views from normalfags are those that don't try to tell a story or anything and are just a compilation of dozens of current anime with shiny effects. Some are cool but most of them are just boring and just an editor flexing their After Effects skills

Damn, what a beautiful thread. Honestly, I have always watched anime at my own pace, so after more than a decade deep in this (formerly) niche subculture, I still have so many legendary shows of that period to watch in the backlog. But looking at this thread, I also think I am very fortunate to have that many gems left to enjoy. There were so many great shows from the 2000... thanks for this thread is what I want to say, I guess.

I love all of his works and think they're masterpieces (yes, even his experimental works from the 80s and the 90s) but Suicide Club is my absolute favorite of his. It's everything I want from that genre. From its surrealistic yet never random plot, to its still-trenchant commentary on the horrors of modernity and 2000s issues, like the alienation and isolation by the realities of religious cults, pop culture and the early internet culture from that period of time in Japan, it's a masterpiece. Sono pulls out all the stops and hits us with dark humor, genuine suspense, and a remarkably fleshed-out set of characters. I was a part of that period of time so this film hits me personally and hard and was also my first film of his, discovering it in the year 2006 when I was in middle school, so you can imagine my shock at the time when I first watched it. Its sequel/prequel Noriko's Dinner Table is just as impactful, as it continues with related themes but in a different, yet somehow, similar tones.

Any interest in a late 2000s - early 2010s thread covering around 2007-14, or is that not distinct enough? I do love the 2000s look, but also the glossier and brighter early 2010s variation that came around before the current mainstream style. The kind of look that nightcore thumbnails used a lot.

It was "an aesthetic" of the time
Not "THE aesthetic"
I would personally say many of his works were rather niche beyond lain for most 2D consumers

As someone who was an ``otaku'' in the early 2000s, I personally feel the aesthetic of Di Gi Charat, Hand Maid May, DearS, Elfen Lied, Galaxy Angel, etc. as the defining aesthetic of the period

Brightly colored outfits, vibrant blue skies, lots of colorful hairstyles, frilly/overdesigned outfits with accessories, etc. Almost all series had a character that had some sort of "head accessory" sticking out. Lots of girls with pink and purple hair and "hair vents"
Lots of pink and pastel colors like light aqua or light orange.

I'm glad people liked the original touhou 2000s art thread I made, I literally came back to make one. Happy to see a thread up :D

This art makes me feel so odd it's hard to explain, it's not even nostalgic, there's something so special and attractive to it.

I scan across boorus for these image and often look at attractive artists catalogues.

You notice going into 2011 or so the art starts to become ''sterile'', there is a level of colour and life to 2000s fan produced images that is so awesome.

Another aspect is the graphic design, it's definitely maximalist, filing the image patterns and designs on gradient or patterned backgrounds, it's utterly stimulating to me and I was and still am obsessed which is why I made the original thread, I needed to express my love for this art

Another 2000s anime favorite, Nazi girls!

Stuff like Hetalia popularized military gear so much you could find western girls group on deviantart centered all around Nazi art! What a different and irreverent place nerd culture was then.

One of the funniest ones I saw on 2000s deviantart is a number of girls cosplaying as the boku no pico boys, fujos were so big in the west then and they seem to have disappeared.

I'd like to end this effort/blogpost with my idea for the future.

I would like to see a online group created dedicated to creation of similar and sharing of this old art.

The problem we can get is that a group like that may be steeped in is nostalgia and fetishization, I would like to see a group of creators who genuinely love the art and want to create new and novel things carry on the artstyle. I suppose the first step would be myself to learn this old art perfectly.

But yeah I love this shit

Oh one more thing, I thought it was interesting that the digital age of anime produced the greatest era of fan art and yet actual anime productions massively degraded.

Compare most 90s actual anime to 2000s, usually 2000s character designs are less attractive, the shading, line art and look isn't as cool. This is especially noticeable for companies that decided to cheap out and instead of colouring and inking scanned pencil drawings on pc they'd just do all the art on a drawing tablet.

This is in contrast to 2000s fan art which is aesthetically awesome and a massive cut above the 90s, because of exposure to digital equipment. One anime I can think of is the intros to the Wild Arms jrpg games, you can see the 2000s character designs and quality of the aestheticism has degraded over time from 96 to 2002

I thought your post was very interesting. Getting into 2000s anime you come across a simple truth, the art of the time is not so ''distinguishable'' from the time and culture of it.

Back then the anime community was genuinely full of nerds, ready to share irreverent art and have irreverent jokes which is how like anime Schrodinger and Hetalia became popular in the west without any nazis or extremism being in the community.

People would like cool things regardless of taboo, the whole landscape was irreverent and different. It was FREE

When I look back and appreciate 2000s art it's not just the art that makes me love it, it's a reminder of the pre smartphone internet age, when nerd fandoms really were full of irreverent people coming together to love art.

Nerd culture being popular has been horrible and destructive. And now ignorant normalfags impose western sensibilities on japanese artists. They're cultural tyrants when the anime fans that came before them truly loved the produce of japan fully

What a thread, so many stories.
I just want to say that I does feel quite nostalgic but at the same time I was never part of this culture.

I had a friend in High School who used to frequent this site and would talk once in a while about the magic of /b/, touhuo, weird japanese shit, aniki and more. Of course I would just giggled and maybe I visited this site once or twice but I couldn't understand most of what it was posted. I wasn't until /mlp/ that I started visiting this place and then I started watching FMA: Brotherhood

Just a few years ago I started playing touhou btw.

Well, what I want to say is. Looks nice, friends. Kinda wish I would have been part of this staff when I was younger, or at least, being able to understand some of it.

So much consumirism tho. Reeks of goyslop but I'm sure there's hidden gems.

i'm kind of the same way. i'm probably much younger than a lot of the anons here, so i only vaguely remember stuff from the mid/late 2000s, and it's not like i was a huge anime otaku as a small child, but seeing some of the photos in this thread like >>43942442, >>43942434, and >>43881091 fills me with a sense of longing, since it's still not far off from my own childhood. >>44162443 and >>44162853 are also super cool to me, since i actually very vividly remember fujoshi and hetailia fans being around, and looking back, i think they were cool, it sucks that a lot of the geuinely nerdy aspects of otaku culture got bullied into obscurity.

not sure what you mean by "goyslop", anon, >>44222149 is right, this subculture is mostly consumerism. i don't think that's a bad thing inherently, i think people who are this devoted to their favorite things are cool. also i geuinely don't know what that word means, i know that /v/ uses it a lot but screw that place

I love Aria.

>> No.44280265

Slightly off-topic but I have such a deep nostalgia for jp movies and dramas from the mid 00s to about 2012. A lot of the new shit just doesn't tickle me the same way as the older series. I thought maybe it's because I'm now in my 30s, but I rewatched My Boss, My Hero and it was still as funny as I remember.

I recently binged Alice in Borderland, and couldn't stop wondering why the fuck it was so popular.

I hated this show because it was stupid, but it is based on a very soulful video game.
I wonder if he ever got Mia to sniff his aromatic grass?

Boogiepop Phantom is good but you're probably going to get filtered by it since it's a sequel to the light novel. Watch the 2019 anime or at least the live action adaptation first for context. Or don't. In a way it's more fun to try and figure out the context yourself.
