Thats because you can't just force yourself to memorize thousands of readings with just anki like you can with kana. You use it as a daily supplement while reading. its also important at the beginning because 90% of the words spoken each day are the first 1000 or so

in theory memorizing kanji might help you memorize words but it seems extremely inefficient because you will need to grind words anyway
if you're doing let's say 20 cards/day and grind 3,000 kanji that's 150 days/5 months
and if you want to achieve a level where you can read fairly comfortably 8,000 words will take you 400 days

no it doesn't. you should generally be able to remember a card for a few days after you've reviewed it a few times. and then if you successfully recall it a few days later, you'll generally be able to remember it for a week, and so on. decide how many minutes you want to devote to this every day, divide that number by 3, and make that number your new cards per day. modulate that number if you find you're undershooting or overshooting your time target. get the true retention addon and regulate your interval modifier so that your young&mature retention stays very roughly around 85%. also start immersing rn. good luck bro

That's called bulking friend. The point is to gain muscle more than you gain fat. You'll gain fat, but if you aren't gaining muscle then you obviously aren't working out. Once you have muscle, you cut. Your metabolism will be faster so just stop taking protein shakes and your body will start burning away the fat leaving just the muscle. Then you go back to bulking. Yep, it's a beautiful cycle.

Our traditions and how we eat and act etc. Not to mention overall American and European culture.

Like as much as I love Japan I don't feel this obsession to be Japanese because 1) I know I can't, nothing will make my genetics Japanese and I won't have the experience of actually growing up and living in their culture and 2) I'm already who I am. the fact that your mind completely missed the "a lot of" and only saw "you" as in thinking that this post was directly targeting you says even more

Hi All, I've been self studying on and off for a few years but I'm still only at N5 level.

I really need to pass N4 this year as I'm moving to Japan for work and need a minimum of N4 for my CoE/Visa.

I use Memrise daily, have anki and a few other textbooks etc.

But everytime I sit down to study, I just feel super overwhelmed by all of the potential things I could study, and have no idea where to start. I also have ADHD which makes things even harder.

Can anyone give me a few sugestions as to what I should focus on during a study session, with the goal of confidently passing N4 by October.

Thank you!
