Is it just me or is MOF just not as fun as 6, 7, and 8? I’ve been going through all the games for the first time and kinda feel this way. It isn’t noticeably more difficult or too easy or anything but just feels not as fun.

Story wise I think MoF has less punch. Before you had incidents that were potentially life threatening and more dramatic, but in this it's just a rival shrine getting uppity.

MoF shed off all the additions that built up over time in the first Windows trilogy, and originally ZUN wasn't going to make more Touhou games after those.
It's not the best Touhou game, but it's still a solid medium-tier. Not the worst Touhou game, but not the best either.

I just want to say it was silly that MoF got the continues nerfed and they sent you to the start of the stage. I know only 1cc counts as really beating the game, but this just hindered unlocking stages in practice mode.

Oh my god someone who actually plays the games.
I thought MOF was fun with the point collection system. Wait until you make it to UFO. That's when you're gonna wish it was more like MOF.
Keep going until you beat all the extra stages. Also did you beat phantasm in PCB?

If you aren't having fun, I would try playing on hard.
That said, I felt that everything from MoF beyond plays quite different to the previous games. There are obvious things, sure, but just the feel of it is strange in comparison.
