So is there any official / recommended order for reading the official works? I've enjoyed learning through reading the omakes after I beat each game, but I want more.

Just do it by release order if you're already familiar with the setting and its sociopath inhabitant

There's a ridiculous guide that covers up to LoLK if you google touhou reading order, but the real answer is just to look at when things were published and go for it. Sometimes chapters will be like epilogues or prologues to the events of the games, so I'd at least beat all the games first to be sure.
