yotsuba is honestly too difficult for beginners because the characters have accents and drawls so someone coming from core2k and tae kim has no idea what they're saying. it's better to ease into natural japanese with something where characters speak actual japanese and then yakuza type characters so you learn corrupted grammar. i'm reading dies irae and still traumatized by that one time when i tried to read yotsuba years ago.

Whenever I learn a new word or a phrase I just start yelling it out in a booming voice for about an hour straight (usually while lifting weights or while I'm on the toilet). That helps work pronunciation into my daily routine and prevents me from being bored.

It also helps me cultivate a commanding voice so when I encounter actual japanese people they will have no chance but to obey me instantly. I'm also 6'4 so it helps. It will be as if they encountered some fog light yokai from their horror movies or video games.
