You'll probably be fine as long as you don't have a problem scratching and hitting 1 + 2 (or 6 + 7 depending). When I'm hitting lone chords like that I find I don't actually move the TT much and just kind of slap it, and just moving it slightly forward feels the most natural.

Yeah I do the same exact thing, but backwards instead. And it feels perfectly natural hitting 1+2.

So I've been playing on Resident data a lot, and I gotta ask. Is it just always gonna have early audio sync compared to the arcade no matter what I do? I've followed just about every resource I could find on getting Resident/Infinitas running well. High Definition Audio Device, V-sync on, maximum performance in power management, 120hz with Freesync off, all other apps closed, audio enhancements disabled, wasapi audio on TDJ, I'm even using the Real audio latency app off github. But I just can't get a comfortable sync. It's uncomfortably early and makes it hard to lock in. Are there any options in spicetools that help with sync/latency?

It's kind of a bummer going to the arcade and doing terribly getting all fast goods/greats because I'm so used to my home setup.

TDJ mode by default uses asio with the xonar whatever soundcard, not wasapi. There are ways to emulate it or use your own asio device. I think people use asio4all or something similar in most cases, I don't notice a very large difference between that an actual lightning cab hardware. It feels just as easy to "lock" in on timing in both.

I think it's even possible to use asio in infinitas with some registry hacks.

Apparently. Again, it varies from hardware config to hardware config. But in my case, yeah. It gives me the closest timing to AC with the most stability. I don't feel like it drifts fast or slow much, if at all. I'm not sure about that real application, I've never used it personally. I've just been using asio4all since TDJ mode was a thing and it's worked pretty well. but a 128 sample buffer is pretty low, so I don't know how much of a difference asio would make in your case but it might still be worth a try.

>Is the auto adjust useful? Should I have it on all the time?
If you're bad at the game (or even just derusting), auto adjust will tune the game to your bad habits, as it is doing now. If you're good at the game, you know how to set an offset and leave it there. So no, it's not very useful.

>I get nothing but fasts if its lower
Stop hitting early. Or use positive offset and be at a disadvantage forever. Whichever you prefer.

>> No.43550591

I don't have much experience with CHUNITHM, but maimai is funny since the offset adjust in that game only moves the BGM track by some uselessly miniscule amount. There is no visual offset, and all of the hitsounds and such still play way too late relative to the expected input even though the game isn't keysounded, so everyone is forced to play super early. How unfortunate.

>There's even someone with 21.15 VF who uses judge +3 in my arcade
Yeah, being good and being wrong aren't mutually exclusive. DON* has MAX'd several 11s in IIDX but uses +2.70 or something. He's terrible at even the mildest soflan, though. He's well tuned to hitting the notes in a specific spot in The Void, so when that spot changes at all, he doesn't know how to time anymore.

>>43550626
>So just set it to 0.0 and cope until I adjust?
That, and maybe reduce your GN a little bit, but not so much it interferes with your ability to read and react to things like scratches. I know a handful of players that bumped up the speed too much too soon and they literally can't read scratches, and now they're dependent on the speed to time on the keys, so they're fucked.

>I'm playing at home btw and not on a cab.
LDJ uses -2.00 offset by default. TDJ uses +0.25 by default. If you're playing LDJ hacked to run at 120 FPS, it will still use the -2.00 offset for "0.00", so +2.25 would actually be equivalent to 0.00 on lightning. Then there's also the possibility that your setup has less latency than arcades do, pushing your offset even more positive compared to AC. Still, there's no possibility that your setup has negative latency, but people preferring to hit early isn't unusual. You can investigate your system's total latency using high speed cameras and such if you're really curious.

>> No.43550878

>>43550758
>If you're playing LDJ hacked to run at 120 FPS, it will still use the -2.00 offset for "0.00", so +2.25
Yeah I'm using that hack. So using +2.8 would mean I am using +0.6ish on the old 60fps styles. Also I do remember people back then saying to adjust your green number before you fuck with the offset. I guess I'll set the offset to +2.25 and try and get used to that. Thanks.

Some people like the sort of authenticity you get with data. It's hard to emulate DDR exactly with Stepmania alone. You can get pretty damn close with certain themes (webm related, captured in Project Outfox. The background is NOT a pre-rendered video. Everything is rendered in game using stages and characters) but there will always be down sides. Just to name a few;

>no pacemaker (unless I'm missing something in the theme options, but I don't think I am)
>difficulty sorting doesn't work like DDR and is annoying to navigate difficulty folders
>Japanese titled songs aren't sorted at the top of the list but are sorted alphabetically based on the English title instead
>shock arrows don't work as intended and can actually mess with the accuracy of scoring
>Stepmania/Outfox are pretty glitchy and have some weird quirks

I'm sure there are a few other things that don't work right in Stepmania but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Keysound latency can be distracting and provides slower and less useful feedback. Being able to hear your keytaps well will let you know whether you're drifting before the game even tells you about it, and it's easier to align your visual, audio, and muscle senses when the feedback is "instant". This is less of a problem for unkeysounded games, where headphone usage is much more common.

True. Watching top players play and listening to their perfect button hits is very satisfying.

>Keysound latency can be distracting and provides slower and less useful feedback.
Addendum: Keysound playback is extremely useful for scratching, which doesn't have a physical sound associated with it. Ignoring the fact that lightning model has double sensitivity turntables, the slightly lower audio latency makes scratching feel great.

Not really if you want to be forced out of your comfort zone and can’t do it yourself. But it’s unnecessary as hell, too. Just try new songs lol

Play scratch songs.

The trick is to do light short stabs, it doesn't take much movement to trigger it at all but I don't think you can learn that technique by practicing it, it's just the kind of the thing you have to feel out as you deconstruct dense scratch patterns.

In IIXD how do you press 4 and 7 (right hand index and pinky) without pressing 6? Sure, when I do it carefully I can hit it, but during a song at lvl 10 when I need to move with speed I almost always get extra misses. I use my left index a lot to mitigate this awkward position but this only works when it is not so dense.

Any recommendations for something as good as an FP7? Had one years ago but sold it because I stopped playing rhythm games, now I'm back and FP7's are never in stock on Gamo2 and I will never, under any circumstance buy a Phoenixwan.

>the best controller on the market
Used one at a friends house a few years ago and I destroyed the top panel by pressing too hard on the buttons because it's made of the cheapest acrylic bs in the universe. Paid him for a new one and the same thing happened to it a few months after. If that's the best controller currently on the market then I simply won't be playing IIDX outside of the arcade ever again.

I think they made a new version of it that is supposedly better and fixes some of the issues with the original. Check into that or get an FP7 used.
