The whole point of the fairies is to see the characters we know from an alternate viewpoint, that's why so many other characters have shown up like most of the cast from SDM, Komachi, Lilly White, Alice, Cirno, Youmu, and so on. It actually explores more characters that we know than SSiB (mostly moon sisters, Yukari, Remilia and Reimu) and Inaba (shit).

It's finally the chance for ZUN to explore the characters he hasn't paid much attention in the games, I for one welcome that. Besides, the fairies aren't bad characters at all.
