Around the late 80s, various catch all branded shows, mainly Club Dorothée, purchased the rights to show Japanese animes to their audience. France's own shows were plentiful but not sufficient to fill up the schedule throughout. This is a bit of a head start compared to the average country, or at least the US.
For example, Dragon Ball (the original, not Z) was shown on French Television somewhere in 1988, Dragon Ball Z would be in 1990 to 1996. It helps that while not completely immune to censors, there's no such thing as 4Kids tier localisation in France. This wasn't limited to shonen shit, stuff like GTO or Cowboy Bebop would show up in other TV channels like Canal + around the late 90s/early 00s.
Mangas didn't wait either. I believe France is still the 2nd largest consumer of mangas in the world, behind Japan obviously but ahead of the US.
That being said, French Anons sure are quiet on the jay, perhaps because of their notorious unwillingness to practice their otherwise decent at times English.

Posts written in a language other than english are moslty inexistant here anyway, so there's probably a bunch of french posters, there's just no way to identify them as such.
That said, while anime and manga are very popular in France, it's a completly different story when it comes to other otaku culture-related topics. Finding someone who knows what touhou even is here is still extremely rare. In fact I've never met a single one around where I live, an only met less than a dozen by going to conventions.
I'm sure there's a good number of french anons on a board like /a/, but only a handful of them on /jp/.
Nice ZUN-style loup-garou picture by the way.

English board tends to gatekeep non-english posts, who could have thought?
The french tend to be quite stuck up about speaking any other language though, so that might not help.

That's a ZPU-1, firing the 14.5x114mm cartridge.
It weighs in about half a ton.
Good thing I'm an autistic gun nerd who recognised that from the wikipedia page on 14.5x114.

>> No.43420528

>>43420517
Shit, it's a ZPU-2, I didn't see the other barrel.
That means it's three-quarters of a ton, give or take depending on which ton you are using.
that makes the suspension on that truck a lot more impressive.

Missing out on that doki-doki-dakka-dakka.
Only Ukraine has so little self-respect that they probably allow that shit.

Besides that one random Polish thread a little while back that lasted like, a month.

It's because we have a long tradition of "comics" (called bande-dessinée) and visual art in general

manga iwas hugely influenced by french artists especially moebius/jean giraud so it's kind of a mutual relationship even if we haven't produced anything of note in a very long time (which also further explains why we favor manga and anime)

There's been a couple of those, they're always fun. Wish we could have some other languages, but it seems only the Poles have enough sway to keep a thread alive for prolonged periods; The Italians spend all day in the Remilia thread talking about feet and the Norge thread died after a couple of days. Tragic.

I wonder how many copies were sold.
I still think they mostly did it due to the story being relatively easy to follow for someone who knows nothing about touhou.
Sadly I didn't bought it as I already owned the english version, but if they somehow decide to release the newer manga like CDS or Lotus Eater I would definitely buy them.
