Is it okay to bump up my lives from 2 to 3 or 4 in EoSD?

The game is difficult. I can beat Stages 1 (usually 2) and 3 without dying, but I make stupid mistakes on Cirno sometimes, and Patchy's stage can go fuck itself.

I want to 1cc this game on Normal, but it's starting to seem impossible. I never end up using my bombs, because I only believe in using them for deathbombing, and my reflexes are never good enough for deathbombing, so they all end up wasted when I die.

If I try and instead use a bomb in a tight spot where it feels like I'm going to die, It'll always be wasted because I'll end up getting out of it somehow. So, fuck.

Am I doing it wrong? I always ragequit whenever I die or lose bombs, and I'm making no progress. I even promised myself I would at least get to Remilia without continuing before the date changes again, but...

Ah man, Cirno is where you make mistakes, huh? I've been practicing EoSD lately and it's always Meiling where I fuck up. If she doesn't force me to use a bomb or lose a life as a midboss during her spellcard, she almost always gets me when boss-version Meiling starts throwing rainbow particles everywhere

I STILL cannot fucking get past the books right before Koakuma in stage 4 without burning a bomb or losing a life. I have managed to get past them like TWICE without having to use a bomb in all the runs I've made on that stage. It makes me rage hard

You can generally 1cc a game mode if you can beat first three stages without dying (PCB being an exception, Alice can go fuck herself. She's harder than Youmu. )

Just start abusing bombs. Barring her last two cards, Remilia is an easy final boss. Also practice mode a lot to learn Sakuya's tricks (stand behind her during midboss noncard if you cant take her on etc. )

On normal mode? I had only problems with one of Alice's cards, and that's because it was random bullet falling down on you from random directions. But against Youmu, you need to figure out how the attack works, and not just were the next few gaps open.

Use as many lives as you like, if you are just playing to 1CC it on normal for the endings, or hell, just completing it to unlock the practice modes, you can worry about lives and score later.

They are referring to Kanako's last spell card, which is easier on Normal then it is on Easy. Doesn't mean the rest of the game is easier though.

What, are the little girls to tough for you?

Seriously, though, it won't do you as much good as you think. You get three bombs per life, and those are get-out-of-shit free cards. If you don't learn to use them when you need to (before your hit) you'll never live long enough.

You can't be afraid to waste bombs. They are a tool for you to use, and knowing how best to use them is as importaint a skill as bullet dodging.

Patchi's stage is absolutely a bitch of a stage. Stages 5 and 6 aren't that much more difficult and are much shorter, so when you learn how to get through Patchi's stage you know enough to get through the rest of them.

If you keep getting frustrated, then quit playing. Just stop for a week or two. When you come back you'll be refreshed, and you'll play better.

In EoSD you get new lives based on your points.
Your points are influenced by your starting lives.
When you start with more then 3 (you wrote 2 but they are 3) you get a penelaty to the points added at the end each stage.
You can read about that on the touhou wiki but I don't know and didn't bother to look what would be more efficient.

My fuck up mistakes always happen in stage 1. But most of those are ragequits--I've come to terms with the fact I can't play this game with a controller.

Stage 2 is marginally easier for me. 3 is a bitch because China's first boss spellcard manages to kill me while I surprisingly escape the shitstorms.
