Era games are a group of (usually) Japanese-developed text porn games.
They're not exclusively related to the Touhou franchise, but it's one of the series with the most era games.

▶How to play?
Run anchor.exe (or Emuera, depending on the game), japanese locale is advised so you don't run into untranslated text.
If you wish to manually update, delete old files aside the sav and dat folders to avoid any bugs.

If you'd like to either edit or add your own portraits, the files are located within the 'resources' folder in webp format. You can use paint.net to edit them.

I just started playing pop's version of TW after being distracted by eraMegaten for months, but it feels a bit weird right now? Kind of like a work in progress, unless it's because I simply downloaded it off the git version, which downloads as 'dev-omogatari-kai'. My main interest in it is the PC pregnancy stuff, but I did try turning on a whole bunch of other things as well, like the urine and scat (gelatin) stuff. For those fetishes, it kind of feels like the 2hus aren't really properly configured to actually go and use the toilet yet, since by the end of the first day everyone has peed and shat themselves quite a fair bit, especially if they have long job hours like Meiling and Sakuya because they cannot leave those jobs temporarily to go to the toilet. Also 2hus can't seem cancel talking to you or doing certain activities like relaxing to go to the toilet and will opt to pee and poop in their diapers/panties instead. Unless that is the whole idea of the whole thing. In the end I just turned it off because it seemed pointless; I was hoping for the 2hus to 'move around' more.

Otherwise I activated the Factions thing, but the most that I've seen of it is Reimu being sus as hell and indiscriminately attacking certain characters in broad daylight, like Joon and Sekibanki, and just deleting them. Although when it triggers the game uses Reimu vs PC dialogue.

When I tried the dev branch it crashed whenever I left the home area, the release branch seems slightly better in various ways, including bathroom pathing.
But yes, the characters are not designed to handle bowel movements and constantly wet themselves. I don't know how much of it is intentional but the whole "unable to stop a task to pee" sure doesn't feel right. Nor does teleporting straight back to where they were if the room is occupied, and just giving up. Actually walking to the bathroom is a future feature, apparently.
As for combat, it was quite funny to watch Reimu pull out her stick to beat the fortune teller only to get mowed down by an AR-15 and bleed out on the floor. There's no balancing or engaging gameplay though, so the novelty wears off quickly. There are a billion weapons and all of them boil down to a numbers game where characters either die instantly or take no damage. The injury system barely interacts with the rest of the game too.
I don't like the non-meme changes either, the rebalancing to the skill system sucks and the stamina rebalance makes it entirely irrelevant. Pop's version is an interesting anomaly but it's not currently playable and I don't have a lot of faith in its future based on his design choices thus far.

I feel like the whole 'walking to the bathroom' and 'cancelling task(s) to actually go to the toilet' stuff would require something beyond the era system or a change to how 'time' works in TW itself. Currently time passes according to the PC's actions, so if you do Conversation, 10 minutes passes, and if you Help With Working, usually up to 60 minutes passes. But either way, they are all 'solid' time blocks. What would be required most likely is if Conversation, instead of [1 x (10 minutes)], instead becomes [10 x (1 minute)]. That way coding can be entered for NPCs to stop actions by the minute to do something, but that would also mean that every 'minute' the game would have to run movement/action calculations for every NPC. But it could lead to interesting play, like the possibility of being interrupted by a NPC mid-task and vice-versa, especially if time required to move from one spot to another is also applied to NPCs. So similar to how you can see NPCs 'performing actions' (e.g. working), you can also see 'Reimu is moving to Central Square in x minutes'. But again, this is all likely way beyond the scope of TW, or perhaps the era system itself.

Thanks for the feedback. The 2hu not going to the bathroom when they need it is a bug with the way it triggers. I need to make it so that if the 2hu really has to go, then they'll forcefully go to the bathroom instead of waiting to until their free. They only check to go to the bathroom when it's time for them to move.

2hu vs MC dialogue is played because there's currently no dialogue for NPC vs NPC battles.

Bathroom pathing and stuff is currently in the works. I'll probably make that a higher priority since I was currently making toddlers.

The injury system is meant to mess with success chances, make movement take more time, and give out pain which decreases energy. I do believe that the armor system makes some guns completely useless and the extremely short time to kill doesn't help either. Potentially I could add a damage multiplier and lower the base armor which means that they'll take less damage.

It's a similar to the reason you have to sleep currently, the game handles a lot of systems when you're "asleep" (the shop phase) and so the world will never progress no matter how long you stay awake. It's not out of the engine's capabilities or anything, but it would be a large undertaking to change.
You could try doing retroactive behavior calculations and allowing touhous to force cancel actions to band-aid the issue but there would certainly be advantages to a full overhaul.

Well, it's simply because a day in TW is a really long training session. After a day ends, it does the AFTERTRAIN things before going back to SHOP. I could make it so that sleeping goes to AFTERTRAIN, and immediately starts a new day, but the SHOP stage is very important since it allows you to save, redeem achievements, change options, etc.

Movement only takes 2 in-game minutes (dependent of movement of course). It was easy enough for me to precompute a path for the 2hu to go to the bathroom and have the 2hu go through each area every 2 minutes. You can see the Touhou go through its path if you stop time when moving.

The main issue with Pops' branch isn't necessarily the trash fetishes (which is behind toggles to be fair), but the SW dev quality. There are more bugs on that branch because he keeps adding whatever random features he thought of that day without thinking about design or maintainability. The toggles don't prevent the new features from causing bugs with existing code. It's finally getting to a point where the technical debt is catching up with him. He probably needs to spend some time doing nothing but regression testing and bugfixes, but that's less fun so no one wants to do that.

Also, because of how the era engine works, features will affect performance whether they're "toggled" or not. But I would guess anyone with a decent PC wouldn't notice until it gets really bad.

It's one of my ongoing criticisms of eraMegaten in that some characters are just unobtainable unless you defeat or kidnap them, but in the Witch's case it does make sense in that her presence up there is the only why the Messians haven't taken over Tokyo Tower, and that the normal people down the bottom of the tower can stay there in relative safety due to her as well

I'm playing eraMegaten right now, and with the amount of characters they throw at you it isn't exactly like they ask too much. Like saying "just use your favorite waifu/demon and call it a day". Though I agree, it leans too much into that whole phantom society slaver narrative. I also wish there were ways to do things by the book.
