As a genral rule, all of the most recent L1 characters are good since they avoided the early dork times of character creation. As for older characters: Hecatia, Cake and Miko's horse are pretty much top tier regular characters. Hecatia was the best character in the game for a while, even better than all the SFES characters at the time.

That's why the offensive stats matter.
They let you push through and make an inconsistent turn consistent
Obviously defensive stats can also matter if you're banking on having a tanking turn or two. I remember using focus down and defence up to make someone survive a turn without grazes during one of the EX fights.
With accuracy not being that valuable anymore, especially a 1T so you can't even extend durations the only relevant effect is the SP up. And Dancer in the Puddle is already a much better card in regards to that with more SP, more Yang Def and actually a significant amount of Yang Atk. A welfare alternative would be Photogenic Girls with the same amount of SP, but AoE Crit Eva down and decent chunk of Yang Atk and Def.

What does global consider "good utility" in the first place? Providing 3 levels of party yang attack, crit attack, accuracy for 3 turns AND 3 levels of yang defense for 5 turns doesn't sound like a low utility character to me, not to mention her last word spellcard's party effects.

I don't have her, but L80 kanako seems to be hated by global for some reason. Is she really that bad?

Speaking of single target LWs, 2 of the enemies in the Mokou card VS battle actually use the reduce AoE damage buff on themselves. I didn't even notice at first until they suddenly started to survive full power LWs from the likes of Little Remilia despite not resisting her elements. Some absolute genius also decided that the VS battle that is supposed to be for MV Mokou needs to include Eirin as an enemy, a character who is immune to burn status.

Youmu Maid event was the very first event the jap version ever did. It was also horribly undertuned in terms of event points from stages and the game was also still missing all the auto battle features besides the one that only makes you use regular attacks. It was also so early that a lot of people didn't even have any viable farming characters with their LW unlocked. If you didn't pull Youmu at the start, there was a pretty good chance you had to deal with bad single target LWs from the likes of Marisa or Reisen. This was also before characters like Yukari, Reimu or Kasen got buffed so they were all dead weight too.

They keep rehashing events and it isnt interesting anymore. Touhou has so many servant characters, and unfortunately theyre not enough to carry a story. Name a single trait about Mayumi that doesnt involve being loyal to Keiki. This can be acceptable, but when you are paired with Ichirin and Futo, 2 more servant characters who also devoutly worship their leader, it's incredbly boring.

This event is a perfect example of why the main cast of an event is very important. Remember the Seija capsule event? You wouldnt think that Seija, Sagume, and Shizuha would be an interesting trio, but Seija's contrary personality fit the story perfectly. If your event main characters are as bland as Mayumi, Ichirin, and Futo, it's destined for failure.

I mean even shitty fanservice events like the hostess events can be interesting if you have someone like Seiga or Junko stirring the pot a bit.

Not sure which event I would call the best. The phantom thief event was pretty fun, same with the capsule stuff since it allowed for extra silly stuff. I also like the Kokoro band event but that is mostly because it has Kokoro.

It was soon after I found out and had downloaded the game, so nostalgia bias, but I have noticed that the writing generally wasn't as good for the other events. Hell, even some of the main storyline was outdone by it.

The writing in this game has always been bad. Main story full of 50 different parallel universes, gacha units like sfes kutaka, komachi, and mokou have 1 line of dialogue before being playable, dialogue full of nonsensical tangents that go nowhere, etc. Dont even get me started on the relic "stories" which are the vaguest piles of garbage so far.

The humorous slice of life events are the only things worth reading, and even those are hit or miss since characters get way too kawaiified and nobody has a real personality. Many touhou characters are rude as hell, but in lost word youd think everyone is sunshines and rainbows 24/7.

Japanese cursing/rudeness doesn't translate like, at all, so it's hard to give a definitive answer, but it's safe to say Remy would be a lot more condescending, and Marisa would probably swear casually if she actually spoke in english. Kinda a problem in general, but the way it's been handled isn't great by any measure except corporate marketablilty.
That's jsut my opinon personally though, so don't go arguing about how I clearly do not have a subtle grasp on the tone and style of nihongo.

For the life of me I don't understand what the fuck even was the point of Mokou's. Sakuya's was more like a memory recollection for just about no reason, which was similar but at least it actually had a character on screen for more then 10 seconds. The only one that had a semblance of things making sense was Satori's, but even then I don't understand the fuck happened in the end.
Side note, I've noticed that they tend to shill another character in the relic stories if they're releasing around that time, like Evil Kasen in Satori's story and I think the new Eiki, Kutaka, and Komachi appear in Youmu's story.

Sakuya has been good in a lot of VS battles because star keeps being a weakness. They also often don't limit debuff characters at lvl 120. The current jap VS battle even has the "prevents any breaks by star elements" effect at lvl 120 but Sakuya still does full damage.
