It took an embarrassing long amount of time to make that first marisa, and I intentionally made it messy and low-effort looking to hide the fact. Lots of trial and error, but after couple hours of throwing shit at the canvas, things just started to click.
I've spent an awful long time enjoying otaku art, almost a decade. I've always been impressed if not jealous of good artists that can produce the most adorable faces ever with seemingly so few penstrokes. I never had any intention of becoming an artist (and still don't), but I just couldn't help but to analyze and pay a lot of attention to just what they were doing. I guess I've developed an eye for these things?
I hope I'm not just sniffing my own farts.

Komachi in "Bein Dengeln" (scythe sharpening) by Käthe Kollwitz. I visited an exhibition on her yesterday and it was fantastic.

Little drawing blogpost: Unlike the "Soldat und Tod" I posted a few days ago, this isn't traced. Just heavily referenced. Komachi's scythe is quite different to the one in the original pointing so I had change her grip and such. It was really fun, though; Some drawings are a complete slog and some flow nicely and this one was definitely the latter. I also used a lot more fill brushes than I normally do, since I realized I was causing hard lines between shades instead of smooth gradients. I might've gone a bit overboard, though.
I'm also not quite sure if this is a good drawing or a bad one. When I look at it I feel like it's the best thing I've ever made, but it doesn't look good as a thumbnail, which is usually a pretty good approximation of what it 'objectively' looks like. I don't know.

I mean it's quite good even if it's simple. There's not much to criticize. If it's your second day of drawing it's very impressive. Still, I don't want to sound like a crab in a bucket but you should try to have some fun while drawing too. If you just make drawings at 100% effort 100% suffering every day, you are probably gonna burn out. But you know better than me how far you can push yourself.
Still I see several things right in this drawing that artists with way more mileage get wrong. You did a good job.

The suffering here mostly comes from figuring all of this out for the first time. It should become much easier once I've done it a couple times. Chose this relatively simple style and pose because I knew even something like this will be difficult to make to the standard I have for the art I enjoy. I have no idea if I met that standard, but I sure as hell learned a lot.

Yea the sleeves I knew were problem areas. And I still don't like the left one, but I give up. This shall be the final form of my first serious work, no matter how flawed it actually is. Can't wait to see in a week from now, with fresh unbiased eyes, what it actually looks like.
I decided to give it just the absolute minimum of color, the kind that still keeps the lineart dominant. I find a lot of artist completely ruin their cute sketches with mediocre coloring. I'm not going to fall for the same trap, so I'm not even going to try!! Light concept-arty coloring looks good by default!!

But about your pic, if you want my feedback. From the viewers perspective, the left arm (her right) looks great except the shading at first made the forearm look way thinner than you clearly intended. Create more contrast between the arm and background and that hand looks really good. I'd dry making the hands shading way lighter and background darker. Bit more defined outlines.
The previous anon also meant this same left arm (from viewers POV) when he said the upper arms implied position is little strange. You'd have to change a lot in the pic to fix this tho.
The right fingers, I much prefer your previous >>43439825 thicker ones. But it too can be improved, I'd try making the tips more flat (to match the strong angular feel of the left). Might look quite fine. The rest of the arm is also better in the first pic and has no issues.
I could really go on but I'm not sure how harsh critique is welcome here.

As for everything you said on the right arm, I really can't agree with you on any of it as I currently see it (Do you *really* not think the old fingers were too fat? And her arm didn't even join up to her wrist properly!), I'll have to look at it again with a more neutral reference in a week or two.

I think I'm a little too analytical and overly descriptive.
I mean, it kinda has the same feel as American Psycho in the excessive detail department, minus describing what everyone is wearing all the time. Which was most of it.

Either way, saved. Might end up using it when that chapter comes around.

No, my story, I thought I made that clear, although that's kinda what i'm talking about.
I like his drawings, I have a couple saved I think.
Hell, I think I got him to draw one before.
My point here is that I don't think I'm all that good at writing besides having a good vocabulary and half-decent grammar, since I don't talk with people enough to have a feel for how conversations should go.
I mean, this is /jp/ so it's not like that'd be an issue, but on some level I'm not happy with how I can't really get decent dialogue right, and the perfectionist in me wants to go back and try again a little. It's mostly just now though, I think I fucked up the last part I posted and gave Yuuka a personality shift cause I was rushing just a little.
