That's what kept bugging me. Mikael from shingakko does share a a lot of similarities with both Jomy and Gil from Takemiya's bl queen works.
Gilbert was inspired by bjorns of course who also inspired many fujoshi and shoujo writers. Ironically, both shingakko and baraki the closest to Takemiya inspo that you can find in blvn works. Be it art or plot.

Shingakkou does share many similarities to Kaze to ki indeed.
First and foremost, both are centered around Christianity and an all-boys Catholic boarding school. Shingakkou might be on the supernatural side, but both works focus a lot on religion. Abel was very much inspired by Gilbert. Even named the priest after Gilberts uncle.
Also discrimination plays a very important role in both stories. Take Cecil and Leonid for example. Or how orphans were treated and felt, perverted adults taking advantage of them. PTSD, manipulation.

I wasn't impressed much by any of SD's first three routes and was mostly playing for the atmosphere but I found Madarame's the most entertaining. If I was actually invested in either of the first two I'd probably dislike it more because it feels so out of place, but I wasn't so I just enjoyed the ryona scenes. I also liked seeing Towa get rattled when he was so cold and distant for the first two routes.

I would consider it more of an acquired taste and finding just raw entertainment from the trainwrecks than anything. Finished Slow Damage. The True Route was of course the high point of the game. If I can make a complaint, I think almost all of the mystery in the game was pretty damn obvious. I had a good idea of what was going on a long time before it was ever directly revealed. The only thing I got wrong was that I thought Lisa would end up being Fujieda's sister somehow, but her character was just a red herring. As different as they are, the game reminded me of Cross Channel as the MC in that has a similar childhood history to Towa with accompanying mental trauma. Anyway, Slow Damage was good overall, worth the read.

National channels used to air those shows a lot, but they stopped by 2005 too. Cable TV is strongly responsible behind the biasedness 3 gens have towards new anime. I know people who has never given KnB a chance because they love Sakuragi so much they just don't want to try watching something someone who deeply respects Inoue wrote. Even Inoue liked KnB.
Many people haven't even watched a single KnB episode yet they will always claim SD is the best sport anime.

KnB is not even bad, but SD and KnB are no where near on the same level. SD is a legit sports manga, KnB is the same tier as fantasy battle shounen stuff like BnHA. They gave up the pretense that it was about actual sports long ago, they literally have magical powers. To call it an actual sports series is ridiculous, it's like saying Naruto is actually about ninjas
SD is also definitely not the best sports anime, so please, stop with these strawmen. SD is definitely high tier, and among some of the best sports shounen, but I would without hesitation rank Real (Inoue's other basketball manga) as higher than SD within basketball shounen, let alone sports shounen in general.
SD is great for what it is: a shounen about someone trying to get good at basketball. Yes, the start is heavy on the silly shounen comedy, but it quickly dives into more serious character drama, with the MC finding a purpose and goal for a life that was otherwise lived aimlessly, the pain of trying to improve in a skill, and handling the disappointment and frustration of making no progress. As someone who has read both SD and KnB and likes them both, they are very different in tone and just are not comparable. The only similarity is they are about high school basketball

In Absolute Obedience, you control Louise and Kia through a set of six missions
each, with a possible grade of "A" through "C" or "D" in each. "A" and "B"
are successful grades; "C" and "D" are failures. To activate the two secret
missions at the end of the game, you must score an "A" rating on all twelve
missions in one saved game.

To collect all the CGs, events, and ranks in the game, you will need to have
multiple saved games, as you will have to play each mission a minimum of three
times in order to get each rating. Following each possible dialogue path will
get you everything, but you will still need to start the game over multiple
times.

Several missions expire upon completion of a certain number of other missions
or specific other missions, and Kia's second mission, "The Selfish Prince's
Holiday," won't be available until two other missions have been completed.
Therefore, in order to complete all missions and unlock the secret missions for
Louise and Kia, you have to do the missions in a certain order.

One order in which it is possible to complete the game successfully is:

L4, K6, K2, K3, K5, L5, K1, L6, K4, L1, L3, L2

However, "D" results are not achievable with this order; you will have to start
new games in order to get them. Be careful not to save over your "A" game.
Also be careful to save after you receive the secret missions so that you can
go back to them later if you want to without replaying.

Generally, to get the "D" ending for a particular case, you will need to play
it first; start a new game especially for it. You don't need to save each time
as simply seeing the ending will unlock the CGs in the title screen whether or
not they appear in a saved game. However, to make the "D" ending for K2
available, you must start a new game, then get the "D" endings for K1 and L1.

Other than that, it's a fun dumb comedy that's primarily about fucking. Art is kind of ugly, but there's a wide variety of boy type, and shota if you're into that.

I don't think it should take any longer than 20-30 hours if you stick to a guide. Don't go guideless; it's impossible to 100% the content intuitively.The missions themselves aren't more than a few hours each. I ended up dropping it in rage when I realized I was locked out of missions after sinking hours into it. Plan to replay it some day; but replayed Enzai first as my throwback BLge.
