That was original lore, Druella stuff was his corruption phase, and now we are in a very vanilla soulmate phase with monster opposition written out via making monsters super powerful. I am not sure but I got the impression in the early stuff that heroes and uncorrupted angels could mostly challenge top tier monsters while the rank and file of both sides were evenly matched.
