Umineko episode 8 was a mistake in my opinion, I'm not done yet but I'm on chapter 15 and there's nothing that can happen that would save this episode for me. To be honest I haven't had any fun reading it since the end of episode 6 but I decided to stick with it.

Read the manga. The emotional scenes hit much better since it's not held back by the VN's dumb "the truth doesn't matter" message, which means the characters themselves often can't really react in appropriate ways since it'd spoil the truth.

I don't even care for the manga's "Confession of the Golden Witch" chapters, but there's a lot around the story that just hits better there since it doesn't need to hide what the characters are referencing or reacting to.

The only 07th Expansion things worth anything right now are Meguri, which we already know the ending of, and Mei, which will never progress in any meaningful way until it's time to kill it off.
Oni is worth jack shit and the Answer arc for Reiwa is nowhere to be seen despite the question arcs ending months ago, not to even mention fucking Phase 2.
I'm so tired, I just want more content.

I'm eternally at the end of Episode 6 (don't feel like reading from my pc) but loving it.
I don't think I'd change many things in the first 6 episodes I read, except for one thing... MASSIVELY REDUCE OR CUT OUT SHANNON'S SCENES, THEY'RE ALWAYS REALLY BORING AND FEEL OUT OF PLACE AND TONE, it's like it suddenly turns into a Shoujo or something.
Also Ange's schizo ramblings in Episode 4 were going on far longer than expected.

Huh, interesting. Both things that annoyed me the most are schizo women. Shannon and Ange are the ones I identified as bringing the pacing down HARD at some points, but I'm sure their scenes didn't actually amount to that many hours, it just felt slower because they were boring.
All the talks about the Ushiromiya economy were entertaining to me. All the mystery, the logic battles, it was all extremely fun. I wouldn't want to 'cut in half' those episodes.
If we cut Ep 3 in half what are we losing? Krauss doing a DBZ punch on the goat? Any part of Battler vs EVAtrice? That would be unacceptable

For voice matching level go with 0. You obviously don't want a butchered script. The graphical options depend on what you like. I do prefer the pc backgrounds over the console since, they work better for the darker parts of the story (Console arcs often add filters when you get to the tense moments, but that would be missing in the original ones). If you open the full option screen (f10 during playthrough) you can mix pc backgrounds with console sprites.

I can say with complete confidence that there exist two culprits that are competing against each other. Trust me when I say the OG club members are absolutely vital to solving the mystery and the club kids will be shown as a stark contrast to their parents and it'll be up to them to solve their internal struggle with the idea of their parents and who they really are and act against them to save the village and each other. FUCK it's going to be so kino, it's going to be on par with Peak Umineko and Higurashi it's pretty much the End of Evangelion but for Higurashi and WTC as a whole

I don't Believe Satoko is the culprit but simply the accomplice to the culprit. Notice how in the first loop she simply blames the curse fornthe murders despite knowing at that point that it isn't real and was down by people. She cannot believe Keiichi and Mion are dead, almost as if it was simply not possible for them to die and it drives her to delusions. In the second loop Rika warns Keiichi and this time Keiichi foregos going to the village for the festival and this ends with Kimiyoshi and his assistant dying and with a smug relaxed Satoko not caring at all about kimiyoshis disappearance. And in the last loop Rika warns Kimiyoshi this time in private and Satoko umbenowst to this still have that smug attitude as if everything is going to plan, only this time instead of Kimiyoshi and his assistant getting killed it's Rika and Kimiyoshi disappearing. Shipping aside I genuinely believe Keiichi and Satoko are working together to get rid of Kimiyoshi, Why? Well all you have to do is look at Sakiko and her bio to realize what I'm getting at. As for why Keiichi and Mion were killed in the original loop instead of Kimiyoshi is easy to explain, Kimiyoshi is no idiot and when it comes to protecting his family, even if his wife wants him dead, he will do whatever it takes. He got rid of Keiichi for trying to take away his family and Mion for supporting Polaris, the biggest threats to his familiy are gone and he won't have to worry about his daughter getting taken away from him anymore. It's fairly obvious Kimiyoshi has a deep dislike for Keiichi and becomes visibly frustrated when his father tells him to ask Keiichi to use his influence to make the village a world heritage site.

Aside from that if my theory is correct, Keitarou image of his father will shatter just like ours will. And we will be forced to wonder how did the man who would never betray his friends come to form a plan like this and why would he do it? That is the question we will be left with as we read.

As for Marutake I honestly believe he's working for Keiichi, think about it what we would just say "oh he's just another tomitake how original" the characters have no idea who Tomitake really was except Keiichi. His cover story was good so good in fact Keiichi decided to use it and send one of his men down to the village to talk with Satoko in private where he can't risk calling. Notice how in the first loop Sakiko mentions how he's been stopping by a lot at their familiy shop, and if we take the time into effect if he were to stop by previously we can assume it'd be around this time as well where Kimiyoshi is no where to be seen. Do we have any proof showing that Marutake even showed up to the smile shop in the orginal loop before the murders or did we just assume he did because we have no idea what happend in that loop?

So here's my theory, Keiichi contacted Marutake and told him to warn Satoko that Kimiyoshi plans on murdering Him and Mion when he visits so they'll have to change the time they murder Kimiyoshi sooner. As for what did it, it just depends on if Keiichi fully knows about the L5 virus and how Takano was able to make a weapon out of it, the entire point of Polaris moving there could've been a ploy by Keiichi to synthesize a new version of the virus but I'm still iffy on that.

Anyway I'm certain Marutake is involved in the murders but has nothing to do with Keiichis, Mions, and Rikas death.

It'd be really odd to write all that and then make the enemy a secret organization of outsiders again.

just finished reading the fourth umineko chapter, but i honestly don't have a clue what the answers to the more difficult cases are (some i think i've figured out, but i feel like i'm too retarded to find the answer to some of them).
should i just continue reading or should i reread the previous four chapters? if the remaining chapters are just revealing the answers to the current cases i might as well just go read over the previous parts again, but if there's almost as much to the second half as what i've read up until now i don't mind just moving on.
please don't spoil anything if possible, i just want to know if i'm going to regret not going over everything again.

Yeah, Matsuribayashi is the longest story due to all the backstory parts. Even when you're done with Takano you'll still have even more afterwards in the Connecting Fragments. When the main narrative actually starts it's not a long arc though.

I think it's the other way around. Higurashi was a smash hit, so it gave R07 financial stability and "courage" to attempt odder more exotic projects.

Although, Higurashi's mix of slice of life and horror was unique, both sides of the equation were inspired by successful products on their own - the slice of life side by Key, the horror side by general small village horror stories that are rather common in Japan, even if not anime-wise.

Meanwhile, already starting from Umineko, you have R07 jumping from a comfortable school club setting seen in many Japanese works to the intrigues of a rich western inspired family. Not really something you'd expect from a VN at all. And that's just the start.

Then you have Higanbana's collection of one shot tales. Which actually isn't rare for manga (although as far as I know rarely any of those have been big hits) but certainly isn't normal for VNs at all.

Rose Gun Days then jumps ahead to another very unique premise that's completely dissonant from Japanese mainstream. And so does Ciconia (R07 trying to say it's trying to be like Evangelion makes me wonder if he watched that at all).

Also, when he does go back to "small village horror + slice of life" like in some of his outside projects like Iwaihime and ookami kakushi, it feels like he does that on a very surface level and then throws some really weird twist that just puts off people. Above anything else, it really seems like he doesn't want to just repeat Higurashi.
