I believe ZUN's art peaked at Imperishable Night. Look at this, his Kaguya is pretty damn moe.

You'd be correct in such belief.

ZUN overall peak was PCB/IN.

Oh, okay!

His UFO art is probably my favorite, although IN probably had better touching up/coloring.

Someone helped ZUN with art for IN and PoFV.

They don't count.

Look! This is Kaguya! Cute, huh?!

Either Imperishable Night or PoFV.
Also, Reimu is the control variable in this kind of question as she's in all the games.

>I believe ZUN's art peaked at Imperishable Night.

Seconded.

IN in general was probably the highest point of the series. HC-fags give it a hard time because of relatively low difficulty on Lunatic and puzzle spells, but seriously they can suck my dick until ZUN comes out with another game with eight playable characters, spell practice and kickass music and plot.

>>4275752
>plot
Hahahahaha, no.
And the music, not so good compared to the others.
Also, lots of playable characters? like you didn't have lots of shot modes in the others. Plus, old engine is old.

Judging a shooting game on "eight playable characters, spell practice and kickass music and plot"? Everyone has their opinions, but this is just silly.

Shot modes are not characters. Characters are characters.

I would much rather have 6 characters with one shot mode on each than one character with 6 shot modes.

"Aliens steal the moon" is honestly an awesome plot. It doesn't even take itself seriously. If the moon was okay the player characters would still dick around anyway.

Roughly the same in that things shoot bullets at you and you dodge them? Yeah, they're the same genre. T
he games encourage completely different gameplay with different scoring systems and bullet patterns.

>I would much rather have 6 characters with one shot mode on each than one character with 6 shot modes.
And I bet you play Touhou games for the deep plot and amazing characters+dialogue, right?

You have 4 teams, and 8 solo characters = you can choose 12 different ways of playing (ships).
The more choices, the better. (unless it becomes too complicated)
It has added features and unlockable stuff for the fans so they won't get bored easily.

What makes you think so? It always felt too messy to me, and like it encouraged graze milking too much. Then again I've never watched a pro scoring run so I don't know how retarded IN's high score play is compared to the others.

>> No.4276472

>>4275967
The score runs are the same as any other game with a grazing system. You're going to see it in excess.

To me IN's scoring system came off as too simple because everything is linear. At least with UFO you had to weigh the pros and cons of holding off a UFO summon to collect more tokens, and that could change depending on how high you've boosted your item value in previous stages. Same for PCB; there are trade-offs everywhere. Do I want to sacrifice my current life and take a hit in cherry to make the next border come about sooner? Should I bomb for a border but lose the spell bonus, cherry, and cherry item value? Does breaking this border to affect the appearance of the next one serve a better use than the 10x cherry value bonus and +10K cherry max?

>> No.4276490

>>4276472
And of course simple isn't always bad, but I'd rather work on a system that calls for planning in advance than simply working on execution from almost the very start.
