I do remember lorefags saying that flan actually is dangerous. Though "four of a kind"+ 500 years in the basement gives her the time and the means to develop entire other personality's some of which would be developed to keep her entertained, and others to deal with potential threats within or outside of the mansion. I just don't see flan as being only one way.

Probably both of these reasons mixed together. She probably did something bad and never forgave her self, choosing a form of non existence. And she's probably the only one who understands that remi is kind of a shitter who uses people, but will "forgive her self" when things go wrong. They probably still have some familiar love for each other but ended up on the opposite side of the sinners coin, now they just drive each other insane.
