Run anchor.exe (or Emuera, depending on the game), japanese locale is advised so you don't run into untranslated text.
If you wish to manually update, delete old files aside the sav and dat folders to avoid any bugs.

You could try your hand at translating dialogue, there are guides currently in the TW folder (in #Translation) on what to do, not sure if it that folder exists in other games.
Another guide is:
1) Download an IDE. VS Code, for example.
1a) If using VS Code, install the EraBasic addon
2) Select UTF8 encoding
3) Open the ERB files and edit them
That way you can now edit files without much trouble.
The path for files to edit is usually the ERB folder:
K: ERB/口上
TW: ERB\口上・メッセージ関連\個人口上

You can also report bugs or typos here on the thread when you see them.
If you'd like to either edit or add your own portraits, the files are located within the 'resources' folder in webp format. You can use paint.net to edit them.

If you are playing the vanilla map there are some things that kinda go the same for the first part. In your case, Aya's gets eaten by Moriya in the north or Remilia in the south quite often. Things kinda go random is when nations start to fall and former officer/leaders join other factions or strike it on their own. My recommendation would be to start your own country as soon as you can, unless the faction is already a ridiculously strong one the AI will be retarded and fuck up a lot, which can get you imprisoned easily. Also, if you value your butt purity you might want to stay away from the explore command.

Some nations start with some alliances and stuff, but that doesn't last. The natural diplomatic status for all in the game is war. Unless you REALLY make an effort to keep relations up, they will usually degrade through a combination of border tensions, you being nasty to people or other factions spreading rumours about you. The advantage you have is that you can use sex as a diplomatic tool. If you woo them or enslave the leaders they will yield more easily during negotiations.

You learn the ways eventually. It's not the only advantages you get by dicking 2hus though. The tutorial explains some buffs you get that scale according to the number of characters you "conquer" but I forgot which ones those are, also conquered characters won't revolt. If you feel bad about going the slave route you can always go love, and if that's still too much you can go the friend route, but I never tried doing that last thing. There is no point in playing an era game if you won't dick touhous.
