Im asking this in /a/, /jp/, and /ck/

Is green tea suppose to actually taste good? I've tried all the brands I could find in the store to the loose leaf fresh stuff, to even imported from japan. I've read about how to brew it correctly. I've used a thermometer on the water to make sure that its to the appropriate temperature. However, the only time I like green tea is when I add 2 spoonfuls of honey but everyone says that green tea should be good enough on its own. What the fuck? Does this stuff just suck?

>> No.4252136

It certainly doesn't taste sweet if that's what you're hoping.

Also, there are recipes that use green tea as an ingredient, and let me tell you... they are delicious, all of them which I've tasted.
One thing though: If you don't like the flavor, KEEP DRINKING IT.
For some strange reason, you start to like something the more you try it. So if you positively, absolutely want to like it or make it taste good, do as I say.

>> No.4252350

Tea is a very subtle taste. It's a flavour you have to 'look for' with your taste buds and even your sense of smell. You should be smelling the tea as much as you drink it. It's not something strong enough that you can 'passively' taste like coffee, licorice or anything else like that.

Also, bagged is really not good at all. Once I tried loose tea, that was it... I can never go back to drinking bagged again.

If you've tried loose leaf and you're brewing it correctly (good quality green tea should never be brewed more than a minute), you're not squeezing the leaves or shaking the tea pot when you brew, the water is the right temperature and you're using a proper amount of leaves... then maybe you need to buy a better quality brand.

Try to find Mitoku Sencha. It's relatively cheap and incredible.

You might want to try Matcha, too. It has a much more distinct, stronger flavour.

That being said however, I prefer silver needle white tea to green tea of any type.

One more note about common tea problems. Water. If you have hard water, it'll mask the natural taste of the tea.

If you're serious about tea, buy a water softener for your tap. It makes a huge difference. I was looking this up on Wikipedia earlier today, and apparently 85% of the US drinking water is hard water. So chances are, you need to soften that water before it goes in your kettle.

Hmm, being a diuretic it certainly brings the risk of getting dehydrated.
I would suggest taking it easy and check on yourself as you go. Drink pure water along with it to, in some ways, detox your body. Not too far though, because you exceed your body limits and you start retaining liquids and it's all lost.

But I'm serious about the replacing of processed drinks with tea and fruit herbal teas. It's not that big of a change, it tastes good, and it makes wonders for your health.

And if I might add one more thing. NEVER buy those bottled teas they're trying to push. Shit tastes awful

Former tea-shop working fag here.

You really need to be careful about burning your tea - especially green tea. I've had plenty of pots ruined by taking boiling water and immediately pouring it directly on top of the leaves. That will make the tea basically undrinkable. After you boil your water, let it sit until it ceases bubbling, then pour it from the side of the pot, and not directly on the tea. You'll make a perfect pot every time.

Also, please don't rape your green tea with honey or any other sweeteners. If you want to do that, stick with store bought fruit and breakfast teas.

If you're really tired you often won't notice anything even if you take really large amounts of caffeine.

When I was in the army we had once marched for more than 20 hours straight with only one 1 hour pause and a couple of ~10min pauses and I had been staying awake for total of more than 30 hours without any sleep. My friend had caffeine pills which each had about the same amount of caffeine as 3 cups of coffee. The instructions said that you must never take more than 3 pills/day. I took 6 at once (taking any more would probably have been very dangerous) and didn't notice anything at all, about an hour later we had a 10min pause again and I instantly fell asleep after sitting down and had to be woken up by my mates.

And I never drink coffee and very rarely tea or coke so caffeine should probably affect me more than people who are used to it.
