Shkannon is still the only reasonable answer to this episode 6 closed room that has major hints.

All other answers are based on speculation without even circumstantial clues or evidence, or involve twisting the red for this room to mean what it doesn't mean.

Whether you like it or not, episode 6 proves Shkannon is true. It's not a theory anymore. Direct all your hatred of the theory towards Ryuukishi, because it is canon.

You can move on to other parts of the mystery now.

I personally have no qualms with Shkanon, but I am concerned about the Erika paradox or whatever it's called: assuming EP5 happened at all, Erika must have noticed only one Shannon/Kanon in the room when she said that 'everyone on the island is in this room'. Fine, Battler misrepresented that, etc., but how did Erika not manage to solve EP6's trick if she knows Shkanon is true?

Because both Shannon and Kanon exist on the same level.
They were both created, they both don't have a full soul.
There are also the interaction with Beatrice in episode 2 which make things obvious, the Beatrice they interact with is extremely close to the Beatrice we see in the Meta-world.
When Natsuhi see Kinzo or Beatrice, it's obviously a projection of her desires.
When Shannon and Kanon see her, they see her as both a superior and dangerous existence that could realize their wishes.

There is also Beatrice's butterfly brooch, in episode 6 Furfur and Zepar were summoned using the brooch that were broken in 2.
Or the mirror breaking scene, aka Shannon breaking her own ego to free the Beatrice within her.
Or how Shannon/Kanon really is the only one who could disguise as Beatrice on the island.

And why did Kinzo keep a 6 years old girl with him as a servant?
It was already inferred several times that he tried to revive Beatrice using servants from that orphanage.
But Shannon is the only one who stayed, all others only stayed on the island for a short time.

And the promise between Beatrice and Battler, the only clue we have toward this promise is the one between Shannon and Battler.
And the Beatrice we see talking with Battler in episode 6 in this flashback could only be Shannon.

-Kyrie, Rosa, Maria, Natsuhi and Eva are all dead.
-Shannon, Hideyoshi, Nanjo, George and Kumasawa are all in the room next to the cousin's room.

So now, it's impossible to escape that room and leave that chain in place, because the chain can only be set from the inside. You can only escape and leave the chain in place if someone else takes your place to set the chain.

Therefore someone freed him from the room.

-Kanon is confirmed to not be in the room in red.

So, Kanon not only somehow escaped from the cousin's room he was supposed to be in, that remained a closed room the whole time and never had its tape broken, and then he freed Battler and somehow escaped from the guest room.

Even if you forget about how he escaped from the guest room, it's only possible he freed him in the first place if Shkannon is true. If Shkannon is true, it means Kanon was actually in the room next to the cousin's room, which might have had the tape on the window broken, because Shannon was in there. So "everyone else" in the cousin's room wouldn't include Kanon because he is Shannon.
