What is this?

/jp/ has started on a project to edit MG's translation of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.

Are you in need of editors?

Of course! Anyone with knowledge of Japanese (and English) is welcome to join in and start editing with the simple and easy-to-use REtrans™ Web Interface. In the upcoming weeks, we'll be updating it to streamline the editing process even more.

Dynamic equivalence is good when there is a way to give the same connotation in the new language without sounding awkward. Otherwise, you're just defeating the purpose of a translation entirely. (Giving the same experience a native speaker would get when reading the material in its original language, or as close to it as possible.) "Weaboo words" are usually better than the alternatives in some situations. (Translating onii-chan as "big bro" every single time, or even worse saying "upperclassman" every time senpai is used for example just looks kind of dumb, and doesn't really give the same impression.)
