Hey /jp/ (more specifically touhou fans), serious question here. There are many interpretations of ZUN's universe and lore so I'm wondering which category /jp/ most subscribes to so just answer this questionnaire. I'll compile your opinions and see which interpretation is the most popular among fans.

The Red Text is impossible to argue down but extrapolation produces nonsense. The canon is itself a mix of grim dark and lazy cute (thought I suspect that is mainly due to the unreliable narration by Akyu the Liar) with more of the former in the past.

All interpretations are pretty much valid, since the canon is so incredibly sparse. All Zun really establishes about Suika, for example, is that she's an oni, she loves to drink, and she tried to fuck shit up once or twice.

The blank slate left over makes her an applicable character for any kind of fanwork, be it grimdark and moody or comedic loli shenanigans.

For sakes of art I don't mind the occasional grimdark image or one or another that isn't all canon, my main gripe is how some doujins pictured characters in wrong ways and everyone takes it in. A couple of example of shitty fanon are:


Flandre been constrained to her basement as opposed for been a shut-in by choice.

Cirno and Letty having some sort of apprentice/master relationship or been friends as opposed to not ever having met before.

Patchouli and Alice's behavior towards Marisa.


That stuff pisses me off a little. Funny enough I don't mind things like CIRNO IS A BAKA or KAGUYA NEETO because those are obviously satires of the characters, the other examples I mentioned are taken seriously by fans and a good amount of them believe they are canon.
