I'm a person who's always late to the 'in' season.

So I was playing the first Phoenix Wright game for the first time. Why do we never discuss this hilarious yet dramatic COURTROOM SHOUTING ACTION visual novel? I never imagined cross-examination could be so hot-blooded.

Not exactly a VN, It's more like a graphic adventure. I played the two first games and dropped it because it was repetitive. I mean, it's not a bad game, but it is repetitive.

Side-scrolling legal simulator, not so good.

>> No.4184807

Played all three, liked them. The main problem with them was that they were linear as fuck and the court room scenes didn't require you to use your brain, but rather follow the script. In the third game especially I constantly rammed my head against situations where the game expected me to not point out some obvious contradiction until the characters notice it later. That was frustrating.

But like already said, they're pretty old news so that's why nobody talks about them anymore. Everybody has already beaten them and moved on.

The Edgy game is okay, but not great. The writing is just as bland as it was in 4, the character a little less horrible but still not good, and there's WAY too much "OLOLOL we mix up left and right, so contradictionary!!1" type puzzles.

Speaking of DS VNs, has anyone played Lifesigns?

It kind of leans towards a harem at some point (it seems every other female patient and all the female hospital staff with a couple exceptions have the hots for you) but good god, that shit gets dramatic. The surgery is realistic -- extended scenes with dialogue and medical procedure, very definite emergency-room drama over triage and personal issues.

The drama. Oh god, the drama. You can fuck up major operations and get bad ends. I couldn't bring myself to continue after letting a cute loli in a car accident that you indirectly caused die of a cranial hemmorhage.

(luckily it was just a matter of doing the right things quickly but FUCK)

Thankfully it's not LOL ZOMBIE CANCER like Trauma Center. Unless you're replaying all the surgeries on NIGHTMARE MODE you can only realistically fuck up if you either make the same mistake over and over again or if you make a mistake at a critical part of the surgery (oops lol i accidentally your whole aorta)

It's... Okay, I guess. Sure, there are some neat parts in the game, but then again there's lots of stupid shit. I liked how you had to interview patients before doing surgery.
>>4185479
Much less operating and shit. You spent more time walking around and talking to people. There's multiple endings with different girls too.

>> No.4185500

>>4185479
The surgeries play pretty different pace-wise. Instead of OHHHH SHIT I GOTTA BE QUICK and it being really fast paced it's tense as fuck and you've got to be careful and reasonably precise because you can't just inject them with life if you cause injury. The surgeries themselves feel much more realistic than Trauma Center.

However, despite being a game where you play a surgeon, the majority of the game is a visual novel. If you go in just for the surgeries you might be a little disappointed by all the talking, but the actual VN content is solid and it interlaces perfectly with the surgeries.

I want to reference a specific event but I don't want to spoil anything. In any case, if you have an R4 or something then I highly, highly advise you just download it and try it out.

The first game's last case was probably the best.
It was 2AM when I finished the 3rd act and just wanted to see what the 4th is like. Then I played until 8AM and finished it.

For me, the worst part was that mint reporter in Apollo justice. I searched and searched with Apollo's eye for the animation to point it out, but he was the only one who had no animation. Instead he was sweating from his armpits and I didn't find that small darker spot suspicious.

Last cases were always pretty epic. There's always some sense of danger(oh god Edgeworth in first, oh god Maya in second and OH GOD EVERYTHING in third), and the game manages to get you on edge.

Except in Apollo Justice. What the fuck, everybody's presenting my evidence for me, I want to do this work myself.

>> No.4185550

I wouldn't say Apollo Justice is terrible. It's just not as good as the others. It's inferior, but definetly not "bad". The problem for me was that case 1 - 3 felt a lot like filler. Final case was really good though.

My main beef with Apollo Justice was the loss of the hotbloodedness. The prosecutor was pretty continuously chilled out and Apollo didn't really seem to care either. It was nothing like the Phoenix and Edgeworth duels of the first games.
