one setting you might consider tweaking is the new interval.
basically anki spreads out things as you keep remembering them. for one particular word, it might ask you about it daily, then every 3 days, then every week, then every two weeks, then every month etc...
with the default settings of new interval=0, if you answer "again" to a well-learned card with a 3 month interval, you have to start all the way over from the beginning with it. if you bump it up a bit you just get a soft bump down on the interval and it seems more manageable to me.

the shape of the curve (% understood vs. vocab size) is interesting. here's jpdb on evangelion, but all works have the same curve. extreme diminishing returns, it seems like getting from 90% -> 95% and 95% -> 100% understanding are steps just as large as getting from 0 -> 90%.

I kept up my reps last night!

The vocabulary study took a lot longer than normal, and I was dreading the kanji study because it had like 230 due for reviews. I procrastinated and was productive in other ways, such as reading some Japanese short stories, but it was getting a little late and I wanted to finish off my alcohol. I decided to be a coward and simply skip kanji study for the day. And then around 10:30-11:00PM, I was sobering up, and thought fuck it, I'll power through them right now before midnight.

AND I DID AND I'M AMAZING AND CERTAINLY SOMEDAY I'LL GET THROUGH ENOUGH KANJI TO READ THINGS RELIABLY

Sure, but my brain is reading the kana fluently and then I get to some kanji and I don't recognise it as a word, I recognise it as some kind of context sensitive logograph(s). Hm I guess the key is in there, getting used to the context so it'd boil down to lots of practice and I'd see it as a word or whatever. I was just surprised to see many sentences composed primarily of kanji when I started paying attention. Lots to remember.

Why doesn't the Core 2k/6k Optimized Japanese Vocabulary deck clearly state transitive vs intransitive verbs? It's not nearly as useful to know that 暖める and 暖まる both can translate to 'warm' as a verb as it is to know that the former is for "[subject] warmed [object]" and the latter is for "[subject] was warmed". It's really annoying to not have that explicitly stated in the cards themselves, especially in cases like 起きる/起こす/起こる where I'm pretty sure at least one of them can be transitive or intransitive depending on whether you're using it for the 'wake up' or 'happen/occur' meaning.

There's no way I can go through the whole deck to add this detail everywhere to make it explicit, but it's such a glaring flaw.

What's the way to say 'ten things', 'a hundred things', and so on? Every book goes over ひとつ、ふたつ、みっつ、and so on, but I'm not finding good answers for numbers ending in zero. Is 'ten things' really just とう, not even ending in つ at all? For counting days, ten days is a similar とおか (what the fuck, I could have sworn it was とうか, but looking it up just now, apparently there are weird exceptions to what you'd expect and とおか is one of them), but is twenty days being はつか just a weird day-specific thing that doesn't apply to other counters?

If you have twenty things, what it that? にとう? にじゅうつ? What about a hundred things, ひゃくつ? ひゃっつ or something? For a thousand or ten thousand, せんつ or まんつ? I feel like these are perfectly reasonable questions, yet I'm not finding explicit answers anywhere.

i don't, i enjoyed everything greatly, even ultra despair girls (spinoff shooter), i just wasn't in the mood for more and 3 fell off my radar but im glad it exists, picking up the switch port (has trilogy and a bonus sim game)

only for the ones you feel are important you have NOW
you will eventually just learn all the ones you don't make cards for anyway if you read/listen enough, cards just help accelerate the process for things you really want.
dont want everything at once, if you prioritize everything you prioritize nothing.

anki cards are like a yugioh deck. the more cards you have the harder it is to get the cards you actually need, you'll brick more often. So you should just use decks with 40 cards and have multiple copies of the same card, it's simple maths

>> No.41684436

gonna anki rn

>> No.41684439

never doing anki again most likely even though i know it would be good for me

this is actually not a bad simile
my gains have at least tripled since i culled the size of my deck
i had way too many win more, or lose less cards and they were diluting my engine ratio

>> No.41684466

For me anki is like pokemon I want to mine every single japanese words ever even if I know them already or they're are completely useless and used once in some random old text from the heia period
