I'd love to host solely out of how grateful I am that somebody other than myself wants a toohoo fightan thread with my image as the OP, but naming it anything other than ice fairies consulting their crystal ball.jpg really just ruins it.

If it's the former, it's a level of execution that'll be hard for me to pull off, responsive controller or not. If it's the later, well, guess I'll just have to watch my flights from now on. depend if you want skill>melee, then get the shaper moves say like her claws, her 22 drop, and the spears. if you want melee, keep the skills just to chain off and act as your shield when you dive in and finish it with spells. Upgrade defensives, get block counters and keep poking.

It's true, it do exist. Most of them act like nothing special happened during the games, those who speak up end up in a bad light no matter what - as if they were simply lousy losers. I can handle harassers, but those who wants to win NO MATTER WHAT makes me rage on the spot. E.g. changing playstyle according to their respective health bar, only playing cheaper and cheaper as the game nears its end. I'm also growing tiered of DP skill cards, as it makes for a super easy way to ruin your game, without requiering a solid input mastery. It just fucks up the game if your opponent mashes in every other occasion. If you're careful wathing your opponents deck you can evade this dilemma, but it requiers some practice.

You do know, if you constantly play with the fear of being DP'ed, you'll find it quite unfunny. Some DPs are more secure than others, some have invinsible frames, so it's of course dependant on the character. Please do tell me how to both block and counter a Yukari 623C. You can figure out the rest. Wake-up DP is the same thing as mashing on wake-up - you're screwed if there's just a little lag. Actually you can be screwed either way, as this case can turn out very random results in Soku; many things are quite random in this game.

>>4171689
I can't respond seriously to this. While you are obviously of the belief that every fighting game is PERFECT, whereof absolutey every aspects of them are PERFECTLY balanced, whereas no moves, no characters, etc. are cheaper than others. This must be so if you was serious in your response. I myself is not of this belief, for this reason there's no chance that we can discuss this matter any further. First of all, 623c is not a dp. Only 623b has melee invulnerable frames, and only at level 4. Secondly, if you are getting hit by dps a lot, then you are being too predictable, have bad spacing, or you're getting screwed by input delay / shitty connection. Thirdly, 623c is neutral at best on block, and that's at midscreen.
If you're getting hit by wakeup dps, then use meaty bullets or space better.

Maybe you should check out those articles in the other thread. They're not just about street fighter; ignore the troll. Those threads contain the basics of ALL fighting games.

I personally love the flame sword card. It's a great tool, especially once you get it to level 3 when its range doubles. One thing I like to do is score a knockdown, plant a waterfall/dew crystals on the opponent's body, high jump backwards, land, and flame sword. The majority of people will tech towards you to avoid the waterfall/crystals and start grazing into you to start an offensive since Patchy has such shitty melee aside from flame sword. I've scored a shit ton of easy damage doing things similar to that.

Just because a motion is 623 doesn't make it a DP.
The move isn't entirely safe on block, many characters can punish it 100% or nearly 100%, such as Reimu using 2A or Alice using f.5A.
Moves which do chip damage and reset to roughly neutral exist for every character. Moves which close distance and reset to neutral are also common. Tenshi's 623B sword dash is safe on rightblock against everyone except Hong I think. Without these types of moves it disturbs the incentives of the game. An almost safe minimal payoff for offensive behavior is a good thing for a fighting game, it encourages actual fighting.

I can't time those backdashes correctly to avoid the punches and any attempts to get out of the corner will just get beat out by punch spamming. Gonna have to work some more on that... Glad to see you continuing to improve.

Oh my, not only do you give me replays of my two least favorite Meiling match-ups (Suika and Youmu), but it also helped me come up with a couple nifty combos (j.2A -> 66 5A -> 5A -> 3-card Youhou -> 2C was fun and caused limit, but not very damaging). I think I'll stick to doing Sky Dragon Kick if j.2A crosses up, though. The guy was really good at landing both hits of j.8A after the 5AAA -> 2B -> 6C hjc9 -> j.5A -> j.8A; I have to improvise and do j.6A instead of j.8A depending on my spacing, it seems. Also, it feels like hjc9 j.5A only connects after 6C if you're near the corner, I seem to have better luck connecting the hjc if I just skip the 6C; I would do 5AAA -> 2B -> 2C -> j.5A -> j.6A, but I can't seem to dash/fly cancel the 2C consistently enough to actually try landing the combo in a match.

That Youmu DP at just the right time to win one round from the Meiling felt very familiar, though. ;_;

Purple slide is not grazeable, and I carry them to punish people who graze forward through my bullets. Unfortunately, it has a low hit box and so it also was not a counter to air jumping. Because the blue sword and dragon punch on crack is not grazeable I was hoping to catch you with it on a jump, but blue sword comes out too slow (the only time it connected was when you grazed forward). For hyper dragon punch, I tried to time them on your j.2A crossups and leaps when I dashed towards you, but often I would miss and attack behind you. This experience has made me design a deck just now specially suited to what I think can break that type of defense. It's dumped the guard crush and forward graze punishment for pure anti-air.

Phantasm - ph
Extra - ex
Lunatic - luna
There are also Hard, Normal and Easy. Japanese players rate themselves by Touhou stage difficulty. So if you want huge tourneyfags you search for ph level videos. You can also put in a character's name to make it easier.
/jp/ level play tends to average in the easy to normal range. IRC average is hard to lunatic, with maybe 10ish ex players and 3-5 ph players at most.

Ways to get out of the corner:
1. Find a hole in your opponent's blockstring and jump/dash/counterattack out. The better your opponent, the more difficult this will be. Against bad opponents, the easiest hole is usually after the 5AA when they go for B bullets. Just dash in their faces and counterattack.
2. Groundtech. This will cause you to slide along the ground invincibly a preset distance. Better opponents will predict this and will be waiting at your destination with another blockstring or possibly a cross-up. Don't tech into the corner. That's asking for rape.
3. Border escape, a special kind of jump/dash that can only be initiated while in blockstun. To do so, press the direction you want to move in (including up) and DD. This will voluntarily crush one of your own orbs, put you into a grazing jump/dash, and even cause you to pass through your opponent. Melee attacks beat border escapes, so only do so once your opponent has switched to bullets.
4. System cards, namely Iku's scarf and Reimu's talisman. The former can on be used during blockstun, will hit your opponent, hit limit (meaning he will hit the ground, no air-teching allowed), and fly a good distance away. It can be predicted and blocked though. Reimu's talisman can not be used during blockstun, but has melee invulnerability, graze frames, and is less easily baited than the scarf.
5. Wake-up DP/reversal spellcard. Don't do this. It's ridiculously unsafe.

Obviously, none of these are guaranteed. The easiest would be Iku's scarf, but you'll only get at most 4 of those in a set and you'll probably get cornered more than 4 times. Pick the best one for the opponent your facing, specific situation you're in, and based on what you did previously (someone who always escapes at the same hole in the same blockstring can get predicted and recornered as a result if the opponent is good enough).

So, does anyone know a decent, easy to use program for getting Hisoutensoku to recognize multiple buttons assigned to a single function, IE two buttons assigned to C instead of just one? I ask because I'm trying to figure out if there is any way to make use of Alice's Ambush Doll alt 236bc, but expecting my poor thumb to deal with holding down B or C AND still be doing other shit as well is just too much to ask of it. I use a PS2 controller, so the logical conclusion is "use the R2 and L2 buttons!"

But I still want to use the face buttons on the front for boolets and shit as well. So, yeah. Help, please!

The most sensible way to get out is a hole in the block strings and you practically have to MEMORIZE which moves leave gaps on blocking. It's the thing I hate most about pretty much all fightans.

I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try a program called joy2key. My understanding of it is that it will bind the buttons on your controller to buttons on the keyboard, so you can set multiple controller buttons to the same keyboard button, then map SWR to the appropriate keyboard buttons. I've never used it though, just working based on my understanding from other threads.

Alternatively, buy an arcade stick. Holding buttons would be infinitely easier on one of those.

default you already have E and F which count as A+B and B+C. ! set button cannot be used for another button. If you wish to turn off manually combine buttons for supers and card switching move the last option during button config to the right.

An arcade stick is not a necessity. If you find that your current control scheme isn't giving you any problems whatsoever, you won't get anything out of learning stick until you get a lot better and need to perform difficult inputs like Tenshi's 2B j.2B corner blockstring without any holes (obviously possible on controller/keyboard with practice, but easier on a stick). That said, learning stick is always a good idea since knowing how allows you to play on PCs, consoles, and arcade machines without needing to learn a new input method.

Samefag again. For those who care, I have made an interesting discovery. Apparently, when using a USB converter to plug in your PS2 controller, Hisoutensoku, if you are at the menu, will take inputs from that controller and use it to overwrite the keyboard controls. So, if I go to practice mode and select my character all using a controller, when I get ingame, my JoyToKey program won't work because Hisoutensoku is only detecting the controller

HOWEVER, if I enter practice mode with keyboard commands, when I get ingame, JoyToKey actually works and I can use multiple buttons for the same function

A little wonky, but it works. Thanks again, Anon that suggested that program~

It's a bad habit in general. Tenshi's 66C isn't blocksafe with her (barring some perfect alignment of hitboxes requiring perfect spacing that I may be unaware of) and I'm believe the same is true of Cirno, but I'm less certain about that one.

Don't know what the default mapping is on the 360 controller, but if you're having troubles, why not just remap the buttons? Putting D on a bumper/shoulder should work.

Good games, Duckator. Man, when did you get such a serious Okuu? I thought Sakuya was supposed to be your main! Anyways, it seemed like both of us were doing a lot of experimenting in that match; I hope you'll excuse my lack of defense, I was trying to see which of my moves had priority over yours and when (I still can't believe your j.6A beats out my alt 214B, that was ridiculous). Great games Guy. I wasn't expecting anyone to join and I was just about to go to sleep before you joined. Not that I mind, it's not like I have anything to do tomorrow.

Those games were really back and forth. Either you got me trapped in the corner or I hit you with a huge damage spellcard. I tried to border escape but half of the time I ended up grazing right into your melee attack.
I still think Okuu's moves are too laggy but I guess her high-damage spellcards make up for it.

Oh yeah, one thing that was really annoying was that you had an anti-air for almost everything. Your cape worked, the kick worked, hell, even your goddamn 2A hit me out of a j.5A once. So not only did it make jump-ins considerably harder to do, but I could hardly do j.2A cross-up -> Sky Dragon Kick. ;_; You eliminated like a third of my game with your anti-air!

Oh yeah, and your 66B has way more graze frames than I thought it did. That was really quite surprising.

I rarely play her so she's become my weakest character. I thought I'd train her a bit just in case I get her in a random match or something.

>Oh yeah, and your 66B has way more graze frames than I thought it did. That was really quite surprising.
Even so, it doesn't work too well against your C bullets. The knockback throws me right back into it after I finish grazing.

At least you don't play Alice, you'd have to worry about Okuu's grab range in addition to her anti-air.

Not many characters can get away with "fling bullets from the side" since everyone just grazes it off.

Its just you need bullets to COVER you while you go in for a melee. Meiling has terrabad bullets (but like I said, her C is very excellent for zoning). Her combos are also much harder to get off than most other characters and do less damage.

If you can use proper alt skills her damage matches up, but without them she's pretty low tier.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely enjoy Meiling gameplay, but the higher damage combos are much harder to get off than other characters.

I can say that beginners tend to fly up and spam bullets or their favorite special move until you get them into melee range. Those players will mash A or try to fly away right there.
This tactic will fail against anyone who has an idea of grazing and will rush you down.

With China, you should be able to close in range pretty quickly and do some combos. You don't really NEED bullet cover, at least not against the CPU. If the CPU counters you, you are doing it wrong. Don't just AAAA them. Keep them down with easy stuff like 5AA3A5C. If it hit, use 623C. If it gets blocked, jump and reapeat. They rarely block anyway. And if they do, it will fail after 1-2 hits.

Komachi's Soku bullets have even less penetration than before. Her C bullets are primarily used for zoning. Her melee is very powerful, but her melee hitbox is very obscure, so you'll have to know exactly where each attack hits to use her properly.

Then there is the 22C gimmick, where you can use to completely confuse the living hell out of her opponent. Use it to make them jump into a random C flying around. You can also use it to force your enemies to take a hit from the catfish card. You can use it to make your 236ALT misses hit even after they dodge it once.

Very lovely gameplay imo.

I would have to see specific replays of your tactics to give good advice. Aside from the usual stuff (read up on her combos and get comfortable with her various spell cards), a lot of learning how to play a character comes from learning what moves will let you prevail in what situations. This only comes from experience and attention to detail. Learn what moves of yours cancel into other moves. For most characters, special moves of all kinds (236bc, 623bc, etc) will let them cancel out of regular moves (6a, 5c, etc). That is generally a good area to start: examine your regular moves and figure out which one of them will let you get a combo off on the enemy, or at least let you get attack priority and beat them back at a crucial moment

Most of Komachi's attacks, to my understanding, have an emphasis on range rather than speed, much like Alice. Your ability to play her, at least in theory, will be decided by your grasp of zoning. What distance must you maintain from your enemy to be relatively safe from their attacks, while still being able to bring the strongest of your own strikes to bear? This is knowledge that must be gained through practice

Recognize that each attack in your arsenal is a part of a jigsaw puzzle that all comes together when the proper moves are placed next to eachother. When you're new and still learning, the trick is the ability to judge the qualities in your move set and see how they relate to other moves. Study things such as lag time, attack priority, hit box details, spirit damage done to the enemy, how it affects your zoning game, and so forth. And yet again, because this cannot be emphasized enough, you must fight other players to get an idea for what you can and cannot get away with doing, finding players that will punish you for your mistakes and shirk from your advantages. The closest thing to a real challenge you'll find with AI is the Soku custom AI, and that will only carry you so far

TLDR: Study shit like lag time, what moves can be canceled into what, hit boxes, etc. It'll do you more good than just looking at some old-ass wiki, because it will give you a deeper understanding of the game mechanics. Before long, you'll be making your *own* combos

You hold down while pressing D to border up, and you want to be on the melee, not the bullets. After bullets come more melee, so if you be the bullets, he'll have already canceled them with a foot in your face.
