Good lord, that lag was getting awful. That second to last match had so many dropped inputs, late grazes, and late moves that I was about to cry! ;_; Anyways, good games, a.a. I thought you said you were going to play Yukari, though, you dirty liar! And he I was about to dust off my Pro Sanae in the best outfit she has.

Note: I have no idea how to use Sanae.

GGs Guy. Unfortunately for me, there's no way I can practice a new character against you unless I want to get completely bulldozed. The day you win the Sanae mirror is the day I 2-0 you in a Meirin mirror.

Some really funky lag tactics happened in some of those games, which gave me the ability to hax the game like you do all the time and do crazy "sneak right past a whiffed melee and smack him!" stuff like that 2A game winner in the second-last game. Let's try to play again in better conditions before you get stuck on the college campus again.

I already graduated, bro.

Believe me, though, if I really did hax the game Sky Dragon Kick would hit a LOT more often. I still say our Yukari vs Sanae was really balanced, though! Your inexperience with Yukari yet knowledge of her combos and some of her strats was counterbalanced by my complete ignorance of anything Sanae related other than how to whiff Kanako Rushdown. Oh, and 66C -> that one 4card I dunno the name; I can do sometimes, too!

You need to pay more attention to Sanae class next time. It's called (pick any name that you like) "cheap combo", "broken", "night stars", "wonder night stars", etc.

As for the first game, I am incredibly disappoint at failing to cancel into parasol spin fast enough numerous times. Wouldn't have lost on that last 66C if I hadn't messed up.

Not really Im just starting with Sanae, at first I thought she was a bit useless but then I watch some phantasm matches on Nico and I decided to try her too.

The true tourneyfaggotry chart looks like this: (1) Is Kanako bar full? If yes, wind tunnel. No, go to 2. (2) Go back to 1. Did I win yet? If yes, go to 3. If no, go to 4. (3) Wow, my opponent ragequit because he got bored of our 20 minute matches! Go me! (4) v1.10 where!?

Funny. Personally, I think Johan shouldn't bother with Sanae because her potential is extremely low. The only reason he should play her is if he wants to give those of us slightly worse than him a realistic chance of winning.

Thanks, you satiated my thrist for UNL today, but I've basically had it with the controller I bought today. Hate how I can be blocking one second, then all of a sudden, I'm "holding" down... blocking is my super technique to beating you!! Also it so clunky, my fingers hurt holding... the ones I'm not even playing with!! WHYYYYY

I swear I have never seen something stupider than the way Sanae plays in soku. All her attacks are incredibly slow (too slow to play as her offensively) and she barely even has any sort of reliable damage output outside of Kanako. I don't know what Tasofro was thinking when they made this piece of trash. Ughhh. My brain's apparent inability to block or graze when Cirno is attacking me does not help at all.

Her default kanako skillcard works as a reversal - it has a good hitbox for catching other people's melee attacks and grazes, as long as you don't wait too long to start it. The best reversal she has is her 5-card that looks like a crystal but makes her teleport and divebomb the opponent.

Her dashing B is a decent grazing attack too, good for opponents who think Sanae's only dashing attack is 66C.

Other melee things to look out for? her j.2a hits in front of her and behind her, as does her 3a. That's all I can remember off the top of my head, though.

>> No.4143552

>>4143506
I'm not entirely familiar with fighting lingo, but I assumed that by "reversal" Lurker meant some kind of DP like move. And by that I mean one that has invincibilty frames (Youmu, Marisa) or partial body invincibliity (Reimu, Meirin). I guess Iku's default 623 counts too, although it's kind of different from the norm.

Kanako Rushdown grazes, but has no invincibility frames plus its startup means you'll never be able to use it on wakeup against a meaty. As for Moses Miracle, it's not going to counter melee since it only hits on the way down, and can be blocked on reaction easily provided you weren't committed to some extremely slow move.

Good games. I'm sorry about the first few, I was trying it with a controller which didn't work, and then had to readjust to a keyboard.

... The lag made that komachi mirror interesting, to say the least. Starting a 6C and then realizing that your opponent's 6C had already been released can be annoying.

>> No.4143772

>>4143552
I'm not sure of fighting lingo either. I took it to mean any move that keeps an enemy from hitting you while hitting the enemy. If you have any distance, kanako rushdown has a good chance of hitting any opponent before they hit you, and grazing through projectiles - so it works well as a reversal from long melee range. Moses Miracle works because it also crushes on 3 orbs or less iirc, making it great for countering skills and spells. I'm probably wrong in the definition, but the practical use is close enough for me.

Thanks for your help, I'll definitely try to improve my air-to-air, it was very much lacking in these games. I'm not sure. When I played against your Tenshi her j.5A felt like it beat any aerial I do, so I really can't judge. Wish I could use it as effectively as you do, but I'm not trying hard enough.

>I honestly had no idea that you could play Meiling like Sanae and hog the sky like that

Sorry. The last few games were just exhausting because it seemed like I couldn't stay out of getting trapped in your blockstrings all day. I'm okay now, and tomorrow I'll get my revenge!... or get completely beaten again.

Mmm...I'm really bad with Iku, so I can't say much from that point of view. As for ways to beat me, though...well, those are plentiful indeed. First off, you had the right idea why the jump-retreat j.2A, you caught me with that quite a few times, and even followed it up with 6C or something for almost 2k damage, so that'll keep me from dashing around too much. In addition to that, baiting me into grazing right into your 236B/C works pretty good as well. Other than that, there's tech-chasing since I can't help but air-tech for some weird reason, playing keep away so I get frustrated and do stupid things (I do it less, but every so often I'll still throw out a random Sky Dragon Kick or two out of frustration), and using well-placed projectiles. Sometimes I decide to eat them instead of graze (weird, I know!)

Maybe if you consistently punish my bad habits I'll even become a slightly better player!

After like 50 tries, I did it (a few more tries later and I landed the full combo a second time). I also reached the j.5A (but not the final j.8A) twice. I'm not really sure what advice to give except you have to input that 66 j.5A as fast as possible--and I mean seriously fast. It might be worth practicing just j.5C 66 j.5A by itself a few times to get the hang of airdash canceling as fast as possible.

>the j.2A immediately after the j.5A is a humongous pain in the ass to hit.
Muscle memory/rhythm, I guess. At fist I kept whiffing the j.2A as well (actually I was having trouble with the hjc8 j.5A early on), but after a while I started to land up to j.2A on a semi-regular basis.

Just be persistent. Also, considering how difficult it is to pull the combo off just once in practice mode, you can pretty much write it out of practical play, when input lag will screw your timing.

I'd like to point out that what separates most of the IRC guys from us isn't technical ability like doing some combo in practice mode. So really, there's no reason to need to ask them for Guy's question. Just speaking, but I'm pretty certain that even Magister cannot pull off that combo Guy listed 20 out of 20 times without fail.

As if he ever knew what he was talking about to begin with. For all practical purposes there are no "IRC guys" considering the IRC is nothing but the Touhou fanbase. Of the ~three or four total good players in the entire western soku community, all of them not only frequent IRC - meaning come in, ask for a game, play a game, then leave - but also come here and to those shitty DS tournaments. IRC players being better than /jp/ is one hell of a misconception, and it's more or less because you can see the names of the silent tourneyfags whlie you're there, but here you don't even know they're around until they connect to you.

That said, anon, you're still not 100% right -- there is an experienced Meiling player or two over there which we know for a fact, making it a little more likely that they'd have experience trying a similar ridiculous combo. It's also true that the IRCfags were the main force working on the wiki, so it's not a stretch to assume they'd be the people to go to for this stuff.

That doesn't make our friend Milia any less of a troll, though.

This. The biggest difference is how people get matches. The European players for example would be much much luckier in IRC than on /jp/. Earlier there were 3-5 EU matches going on at a time it seemed.
The main edge, if any that IRC players have is that they can easily discuss new ideas or find out how to improve. You'd be amazed how many voyeurs spectate other people's matches and say things. Whether or not that's helpful depends on the level of the players involved.
And I suppose there is something to say for simply 'overhearing' discussion of the game.
And if you're looking to sharpen one character specifically you'll find a mentor more easily.

Good games MVRC. I've heard about your Iku before. You helped me realize that Dragon God's lightning might be useful against the Meirin match--but of course, my Meirin doesn't hold a candle to Guy's beastly Meirin.

Your play reminds me a bit of my own in the past--one too many gimmicks for your own good (in particular, that Marisa). My blockstrings are way too loose to properly punish you, but jabbing out of pressure on defense is a questionable tactic, even if you got away with it a lot (or won, like you did in the Suika/Marisa match). It's boring, but hj8 isn't all that easy to punish unless your opponent is psychic and predicts it correctly. Anyway, you're not bad, but could be even better if you were a bit more cautious on defense and cut down on using highly punishable moves.

Good games as always, Remi. Thanks for the help, I'm so pathetically weak against people who know how to play keep-away that it's embarrassing, so I need all the training against them I can get. It's still hard for me to match you in the air, because I need to start my j.5As and j.6As slightly early, so it's always a gamble of whether or not you're grazing or going to peg me with one of Aya's fast bullets. Definitely need to watch out for your absurdly well-timed Master Asia whirlwind things and Bison Stomp things, though.

Shame about the lag at the end, but they were still pretty good matches, despite a few dropped inputs here and there.

Maybe they don't play the whole round in that style, but when they see that staying just a little bit away from me while tossing out projectiles works, some people will switch it up and do just that for a little while to completely throw me off (a.a. actually did it to me as Meiling!). Besides, it's really good practice to get my air game down regardless of who actually plays in such a manner; which I really need, especially since you make it so hard to get good strings going on you for that little while we're on the ground.

Mostly just don't repeat the same move over and over. For Iku there are some valid ways to do that, mostly with 5C, but lightning tango is not one (unless you're spamming the alternate lightning strike). For Utsuho, the absolute worst thing to use repeatedly is 66C, because it leaves you completely open if it whiffs or gets blocked. Don't wake up and then use a meaty with either - you only caught me sometimes because I have horrible timing, against anyone else Iku's and Okuu's 2As are a bit too slow.

One thing that bugged me about your Okuu... when you use 5AA3A, use 2C instead of 6C, you'll get more damage and not knock them back completely out of your reach so they can get rid of your pressure. Another thing is your spamming attacks from across the screen. Okuu has some of the densest bullets in the game, but they're slow and don't come out fast enough to win against most characters in long-range duels.

For more specific advice on Iku, try playing against a.a. sometime. You'll get annihilated but you'll get to see what Iku should be doing.

I'm talking about using the move when -you- get up, not your opponent. although if you're close and your opponent misses the timing slightly, a close 5a can get in to start a high damage combo. Or you can get caught by your opponent's combo starter and take a lot of damage. Safest bet is to block on wakeup unless they're using a grab or charging a guard crush, then a fast bullet move is better. DPs work well from the ground if you time the move right, so Iku's base 623 scarf can work if they're spamming melee.

>> No.4148282

>For more specific advice on Iku, try playing against a.a. sometime. You'll get annihilated but you'll get to see what Iku should be doing.
That's pretty flattering, but my Iku isn't the best example around here. Duckator, Saje, Johan, and a no-name guy I played a few days ago all have better Ikus--they're here from time-to-time.

If anything, my Iku is painfully predictable, so it's no wonder Guy annihilated me in our last encounter. Fullscreen? 6C. Flying in the air? Attempting to land j.2A on your head. Blockstring? 5AAA projectile drill, or 5A 3A whoops-my-opponent-backed-out-of-range so I lost pressure. It's really only because of that 5-card SC that I can stay in matches. Incidentally, I learned about how brutal it is thanks to Jetm a long time ago.
