Era games are a group of (usually) Japanese-developed text porn games.
They're not exclusively related to the Touhou franchise, but it's one of the series with most era games.

Run anchor.exe, japanese locale is advised so you don't run into untranslated text.
If you wish to manually update, delete old files aside the sav and dat folders to avoid any bugs.

You could try your hand at translating dialogue, there are guides currently in the TW folder (in #Translation) on what to do, not sure if it that folder exists in other games.
Another guide is:
1) Download an IDE. VS Code, for example.
1a) If using VS Code, install the EraBasic addon
2) Select UTF8 encoding
3) Open the ERB files and edit them
That way you can now edit files without much trouble.
The path for files to edit is usually the ERB folder:

TW: ERB\口上・メッセージ関連\個人口上

You can also report bugs or typos here on the thread when you see them.
If you'd like to either edit or add your own portraits, the files are located within the 'resources' folder in webp format. You can use paint.net to edit them.

The code itself is easy to learn, but the game is so heavily commented in japanese that you might as well go blind, there are also some instances where variables are defined in japanese. You can use a translator but you would probably work twice as slow. Not sure if it's era shenanigans or just lazy porting.

There's probably some issues with text spacing and other spelling errors, but the main system should work pretty well.
It's a testing release, so there's still some debug code around and the occurrence rate for the request is set to an absurdly high value, so keep that in mind.

That shit takes time and just from what I'm seeing from checking the files, even something as simple as adding dialogue depending on the situation requires a good chunk of code writing. I myself thought changing the map room connections was easy, when in fact that part of the code seems very messy to me. If you are interested in seeing a change, try to at least check how feasible that would be in the files.

I'd imagine Gensokyo to have a lot of space for Youkai to roam. If we're talking era game mechanics, I'd put in a lot of "empty" spaces for you to have a chance to meet mob fairies, youkai, wandering villagers, named 2hus, random shops/stalls, and have some areas ripe for recreating into new/old places from any potential new games or manga.
Right now everyone visiting a place just hangs out in the first or second "room", I'd make several entrances to a place so that say, Kagerou can come into SDM from the back gate, Marisa and the fairies can sometimes airdrop anywhere that isn't inside the mansion, Raiko can come visit from behind the abandoned mansion etc.
For a text game it sure feels very cramped at times.
Some time ago somebody mentioned having an optional personal base for the player, and I like that idea too. Costs a ton of cash, but you can build your own mansion, tower, house, whatever. And have any hus in love move in with you, maybe with some job sites for them like Sakuya will now clean for you in your middle hall, Mystia handles the kitchen and you can open a new restaurant in your place, or a bar with whaletits, a huge field for the Aki sisters, and so on.

Keep in mind the era engine is already being stretched a little more than its limits and interaction between 2hus are a little complicated as is, with just having single lines of actions when you're around and, in very few cases, small chit-chat or in Kagerou's case, some night events where they hang out but it's mostly flavor text anyways.

The biggest thing this fixes is unaccepted requests actually being cleaned up when they should.
Y'see, the intent was that when you wake up, the game would make a call to each request the player hasn't actually started to see if they should be reset and eventually re-rolled. This is supposed to be done by making a call to the "依頼消滅条件" case of the specific's request function, which determines when a request should be cancelled (typically just a 30% chance each day, though newly created requests are excluded from this check). However, instead of calling to "依頼消滅条件", the game would actually request "依頼消滅率", which is not defined in any request, and as such would do absolutely nothing.
As a result, no request would ever be reset unless the player actively accepts it and either resolves it or cancels it (or resets all requests through the menu).

This is enough of an issue in and out of itself, but this is then compounded by another issue. Request 13, the dreaded fishing request, is supposed to be disabled if you don't possess a fishing rod. However, the way it's coded is that the request can be rolled on the request gacha just fine, the player is only prevented from seeing the request and accepting it. This means that the specific character will forever retain the fishing request as their current request, even though it can never be accepted. Hypothetically, this means that eventually every character (other than Wagasakihime) could get stuck with a fishing request the player cannot accept until they buy a fishing rod, making it impossible to complete any request.
The recently added check to the mod branch to disable logging and fishing requests function in the same way, and similarly clog up the request system, though I can't blame the Japanese completely for these.

I've also made some changes (really just reverting ENG-only changes) to one of Reimu's unique requests in @固有依頼1, since I don't think those worked as intended.
I think the idea was that Reimu would not offer the request to hand Marisa her item back if Marisa was already present at the shrine, but you could still accept the request just fine, and the only thing it actually did was prevent the player from handing it over to Marisa as long as she was on the shrine map, which was just confusing.
Since the associated dialogue has special consideration for Marisa being in the room with Reimu, with added dialogue for that scenario, I decided to just remove those limitations, which makes it very easy to complete the request if Marisa is already there.

All in all, I've patched the following things:
-The call in @IRAI_VANISH has been changed from 依頼消滅率 to 依頼消滅条件, allowing inactive requests to be cleaned up
-@一般依頼13 now completely blocks the creation of the request if fishing requests are disabled or if the player does not possess a fishing rod
-@一般依頼14 now completely blocks the creation of the request if logging requests are disabled or the player carries no timber at all
-@固有依頼1 has some checks removed
