What is this?

/jp/ has started on a project to edit MG's translation of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni.

Are you in need of editors?

Of course! Anyone with knowledge of Japanese (and English) is welcome to join in and start editing with the simple and easy-to-use REtrans™ Web Interface. In the upcoming weeks, we'll be updating it to streamline the editing process even more.

What is the length/progress/ETA?

Can you provide a method for extraction? I got the iso when I was making the music patch. If someone can tell me how to do it, I'll get it uploaded that same night.

However, even if we have the files, I don't know how in the hell we'd go about inserting them. Since Matsuri has added content (in the form of decision points, and probably an arc or two) and Kai attached in the bundle, sorting through the voice files to find which one would match whichever seems nearly impossible for somebody who can't speak/read moonrunes. This added content is exceptionally prevalent to Arcs 1-4, since the first part of the PS2 game is a mashed together compilation of the opening scenes from each arc.

If we were to get the voices, we'd probably need to figure out a way in which we could identify which one goes where. Which may, perhaps be in the file names, or may require somebody to actually play the game to find out the separated clusters and segments.

Or, er. There's another method. Copy and paste all lines from Mangagamers ORIGINAL UNEDITED translation into onscripter.

For the editing patch, perhaps figure out some way to label/match the copy and pasted lines (Lolita/Cudder, if competent lol, who am I kidding could probably figure out how to make a patch for onscripter that would replace the copied and pasted lines with the edited lines (which should be granted as an option, due to skepticism/criticism etc).

After the game is ported to onscripter, then at least two people, the anon NScript, and the aforementioned eden hacker Phiber, know of a method in which to insert voices via automated process, and may be willing to help (would be wise to verify though). Copying and pasting lines into ONScripter would be a hell of a lot easier than sorting through 60k voice files to find the some 25-30k (if that, I remember hearing it's a lot less) used.

Moving it to onscripter will also give us more versatility for modification, so making patches and modifying the game to suit ones own taste (be it loli Rika or adolescent Rika). So we'd not only get a voice patch, but we'd also be able to repair neglected issues with the current set, such as the day/night issue with the sprite patch. There's a lot of user friendly tools for ONScipter, so even laymen could fix up the game as they please. We could have ourselves the "perfect patch", so that everyone whom desires can replay the game however they want, since the chances of getting all of the efforts done before Kai would increase greatly. Porting to onscripter would make all efforts pertaining to Higurashi significantly easier, and should be seriously considered, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll grab ONScripter higurashi tonight, and see if I can sort through and find the scripts for each route so that we can have digestable segments. (If there's competent markers for the days in the scenario jump, which there should be, we can break it apart even more so that Anons can handle the operation file by file as represented with BGI/RETrans organization at present.

But there is one thing. Lolita, you'd have to approve of uploading these scripts onto RETrans so that anons can copy and paste using the system that's, unfortunately, monopolized the modification of text. If you refuse, then, anyone who is interested can help out via SVN, though I'd prefer not to do that, since switching things up also increases the risk of failure.

This being if, the people entrusted to carry out the copy and paste operation approve.

- Extracting the voice files should be the same as with the background music (they're both audio after all). Someone said they got 60K+ WAV files in a previous thread, check that.

- We know how to insert voices to be played into the scripts. That's why we asked for a list of files.

I got 100 0 second files (like half a word) its very diddicult. What I got so far was through PSound. HOW THE HELL DID THAT ANON GET 60k files?
BTW, does anyone know the process that was used to extract cgs/sprites/voices

Samefag here, yea "diddicult" anyway. I played it through the emulator it...works...but I need to know of some other process to extract the files.

Have you read the previous threads where the anon did that? I'm not too sure about this but he might've even uploaded the set.

>> No.4170625

Anon #3953391 (check archive) successfully extracted all 60K voice files but I have no idea whether he even visits /jp/ anymore.

Also, this was the URL to the extraction tools that was posted:

So I want to play Higurashi, but I want to have the voice patch first. Why exactly is it taking so long? The demo released by those sisters had a voice patch.

Also, am I understanding correctly when there are choices in this as opposed to Umineko? Do they actually alter anything?

Different engines. On MangaGamer's release you'd have to manually add about 60K voice files to the game script.

Shouldn't it be easier to do than editing all the text? Or can't they just extract the translated text and insert it into the original game so the engine is easier to work with?

I'm guessing most people here know English reasonably well to read the text, but to insert voices means you need to know Japanese AND English, and usually you can read faster than you can hear.

We want to insert the text into the original game, but at every attempt, the idea just disappears. That same trend is here. The idea is taking Mangagamer's original scripts (Lolita, can you upload the originals in non retrans form so we can get them inserted into ONScripter?)

>>4176688
And yeah, we wouldn't have to insert shit if we ported the game. It's just a lot of tedious effort.

So lets segment out ONScripter Higurashi's script, and insert the lines. But, I'd suggest using an SVN vs. RETrans for that, cause copying and pasting will be shit tons more efficient with note pad.
